Just recieved my pre-ordered copy of "Teach Children How To Think, Not What To Think" by Mt. (https://www.motivesounds.com) Yes, it's nothing new, but it sounds lovely. And there's vocals! For those of you who don't recognise the name, they used to be called Ctrl Alt Del a few years ago. Anyway yes, go and find it, it's a great little EP.

Has My Education been mentioned yet? If so, seconding or thirding. I've had Bad Vibrations awhile and it's pretty good, but the other day I picked up their '05 album Italian which was, for some reason, in the dollar bin and it is even better. Not exceptionally original - it will remind you of Mogwai, Mono, EitS, early ASMZ, at times Sigur Ros, but it is worth getting. Quite a lot of heavier stuff on it, not so much the quiet.

Not exceptionally original - it will remind you of Mogwai, Mono, EitS, early ASMZ, at times Sigur Ros, but it is worth getting. Quite a lot of heavier stuff on it, not so much the quiet. Italian is super atmospheric. You're right in saying it's not exceptionally original, but it isn't exceptionally formulaic, either. I don't recall seeing them mentioned earlier in the thread. Also seconding, thirding, whatever in regards to Red Sparowes and Russian Circles. I think At The Soundless Dawn is my fave Sparowes album. It reminds me in a vague sort of way of the soundtrack to 28 Days Later, which is pretty awesome. As for acts nobody's mentioned yet, I bring to the table the Canadian outfit My Dad Vs Yours. My boyfriend sent me a track from their After Winter Must Come Spring and after that I was hooked. Their sound could almost be described as post-rock meets shoegaze. Somewhat rambly, with twinkly guitars and xylophones... it's just really... I dunno, playful. If the happiest parts of my childhood were somehow recorded in music, I figure it might sound kind of like this. You can detect a definite Beach Boys and even some funk influence, which seems kind of weird to say about a post-rock band. However, not all of their songs are cheerful and handclappy like "Tanz Mit Uns." They're capable of building momentum and have some songs that sound more intense (and less poppy). CBC Radio 3 has several full songs of theirs available in a flash player on this page, and of course, they have a Myspace that also has some full tracks. Unfortunately, most of the free full-length tracks they used to have on LastFM don't seem to be full-length anymore. If you like 'em, gets you After Winter Must Come Spring as a download at CDBaby. I wouldn't say they're as hugely original and groundbreaking as some of the other acts already mentioned, but I like them quite a bit. How did I not see this thread until now?

For the 3 people here who listen to the band, té have a new DVD out, "音楽を汚すものは、悦楽でも、惰性でも、官能でも無い。 現実が要求する打算と、経験から生まれる熟慮、それに反省。 現実を汚す音楽を救えるものは、受取手の無垢という表現", which has 20 live songs and 2 PVs.

I just got back from seeing Mogwai (front row!), and it was loving incredible. I can't tell you how many times I felt pure elation during that set. Every bone in my body is shaking now. Here's the setlist that somebody posted on Twitter (found on the widget on their MySpace): quote:the precipice They didn't play either of my most favorites (2 Rights Make 1 Wrong, I Know You Are But What Am I?), but they played a ton of great songs and had a massive stage presence.

The last 3 songs of Beast, Please Be Still's S/T album rank right at the top of any work done in post-rock, and maybe even music, ever. Every single thing is spot on. You're sitting there going "man, this is a pretty rocking drum beat" during Annihilate Everything That Exists and then you go "oh poo poo, a loving FLUTE solo. this is amazing". Then you get into the song Clouds and it's basically like an auditory movie, you can see a movie in your freaking mind and then you get to And Then You Took Over and you can just see yourself laying in bed with the one you love and them saying all the things you've always wanted to hear. It's just amazing and if you haven't heard those last 3 songs you really owe it to yourself to.

New 65daysofstatic material played live http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=batch_download&batch_id=dVlwSXR3Mm01R05MWEE9PQ <- awesome beyond belief. The bit where it all goes quiet apart from the drums is where there was a power failure and the drums just kept on going in complete darkness. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S8ZW44X2 <- Recording of entire Leeds Cockpit gig, not the best quality but still ok. I didn't get to go to this tour which annoyed the hell out of me but this stuff sounds absolutely fantastic. thehustler fucked around with this message at 14:24 on Apr 29, 2009 |

I like how they always end their sets with all the band members one by one eventually joining together on the drums, beating out a deafening rhythm in perfect unison. edit: actually if you watch the end of the video Bucket Joneses posted you'll see what I mean. Its a simple yet perfect way to end a set. CzarDestructo fucked around with this message at 22:13 on May 3, 2009 |

Irepress released their new album "Sol Eye Sea I" and I have to say it's probably my favorite post-rock/post-metal whatever the gently caress it is album since Mogwai put out Mr. Beast. Post-rock just doesn't capture my interest like it did a few years ago and I guess I'm starting to see the limitations of it, but then Irepress dropped their new (well, it was made public in Feb, but I'm always late to the party) album and I have to say, it is definitely in my album of the year list. Just an all around great album with interesting and varied songs. Check out their MySpace http://www.myspace.com/irepress

I found another new band through last.fm yesterday - Tuna Laguna, who sound to me like a mix between té, Samuel Jackson Five and Nobuo Uematsu, yet they also have songs that remind me of Al DiMeola. My Lunar Boots wouldn't sound out of place in LittleBigPlanet. You can download their entire 1st EP from their site, plus a couple of tracks from their album on their site, and listen to a couple more here.

Nice group, I like. To throw in a couple of my personal favorites I haven't noticed being discussed before, *shels I remember hearing them for the first time on their myspace site, and during the first track I proceeded to order Sea of the Dying Dhow right away. Conference of the Birds is quite possibly the best post-rock song I know. Although it's also post-metal, and a bit of sludge I guess. Vanessa Van Basten Right next to Grails, this Italian duo is behind what I think is the best of instrumental post-rock. La Stanza Di Swedenborg is one of my most listened albums. They sound unlike any other post-rock band, but then again I've recommended them to people before and not get the reaction I was expecting. Well, maybe this time. Also, I finally got my hands on their self-titled album, which is maybe not as great as the second album or the EP, but good stuff nevertheless. I also had the pleasure seeing Grails live a few weeks back, easily the best gig this year.

Has anyone else heard about the supposed new album from Sigur Rós? http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/news/?p=1313 Apparently, someone asked Orri in a newspaper article if all the side projects the band members are releasing soon mean they're breaking up, and he answered by saying they're finishing up their latest full-length album, although it wont be out until next year. He says it'll be more ambient, 'out there', 'gloomy' and 'bitter' compared to the last two albums, which could maybe mean something more like (). While I liked Með suð..., I wouldn't rate it anywhere near Ágaetis and () and I do hope they go back to the darker style of those albums.
