So I played a short set on Friday and Saturday night which went over pretty well. I cheated a bit though since basically all I did while I was playing was adjust the levels of the various tracks to make sure it was sounding right.

I kept it safe on the mixing because I wasn't entirely familiar with the songs...I did one like 20 minute practice just to get a feel for it then I made this mix. Next time I'll do something less safe.

I'd already set up the dry/effected tracks with the crossfader (thanks again for that tip) and I think it ended up being pretty similar to yours anyway. I can post my template if anybody is interested, it's four tracks, each with an effects rack I built (hi mid lo EQs, fade to grey, an autopan, and some other one-knob effects). Three send tracks, the same effects rack on the master, and then a dummy clip track for use with the crossfader. It worked pretty well, although I didn't have the patience to go through and make a lot of dummy clips before the set. The one thing about DJing with Ableton is that it's easy for me to get ADD with it since you don't have to beatmatch, so dropping in a new song phrased and in time takes pressing one button. I think that's good, though, there's a lot of neat stuff you can do with it and beatmatching is hell of easy anyway. On the other hand I reallllly don't like having to prepare tracks, warping and chopping gets really boring after a while. I'm super loving excited about the Ableton + Serato collaboration, and then Max4Live. Like, I could play a song off timecode vinyl and then drop in a loop with Ableton and then sample the whole thing and chop it up with some crazy max device... so sick. They haven't announced any details yet but I think it'll be great whatever it is.
