Finger and Instant Grat posted:Wow! Sufjan hip-hop! If you like this, Tor did pretty much the same thing only with entirely main-stream rappers. I don't like it quite as much, but the last track is pretty great. http://www.illinoize.biz/ Also, try out the Kleptone's Night at the Hip-Hopera and Yoshimi Battles the Hip-Hop Robots for similar projects centered around Queen and the Flaming Lips. http://www.kleptones.com/ And if you're REALLY adventurous, try the album Ocarina of Rhyme by Team Teamwork. They layer big-name rap over N64 Zelda tracks. Some of it's pretty darn good. Shamelessly nerdy though. http://teamteamwork.bandcamp.com/album/the-ocarina-of-rhyme

Euros Childs, former lead singer of the critically underrated Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, has offered up his brand new album "Son of Euro Child" FOR FREEEEE on his website. To get the free album, just sign up for his mailing list! Euros [pronounced like eh-ross or eye-ross] has been cranking out perfect pop records roughly every two years since the first Gorky's release in 1991, including five solo albums since their breakup in 2006. I uploaded this video of him and former bandmate John Lawrence on Adam and Joe's Vinyl Justice where they discuss some of their favorite records. Here is a clip of him playing a song from the new album in his front room.

Kid Koala presents The Slew. Great rock/hip-hop crossover - heavy beats with ripping guitars and vocals. Think "Walk This Way" Run DMC and you've got the starting point. The album "100%" available for free download here: http://nufonia.com/ice-cream-news/theslew/

Henry Krinkle's House of Sound http://henrykrinkle.blogspot.com/ I recently discovered this site when I looked up the D&D poster by the same name. Dozens of albums some stretching back to forty years in age. Choice selections include hip-hop, funk and punk. Seriously this site is awesome. http://everytingunderoneroof.blogspot.com/ Another website offering a couple dozen free albums leaning towards English hip-hop. Also seriously awesome

Two submissions here: The first is the new EP from a DIY Punk/Ska band called Bomb The Music Industry! These guys are pretty much amazing, and almost all of their albums are availaible to download from lead singer Jeff Rosenstock's donation based label's webpage, https://www.quoteunquoterecords.com Second, my band, The Please & Thank Yous, have an album of b-sides and other poo poo we recorded in basements, garages, etc. It's really rough stuff, but could be good for people who are looking for some good punk rock. We also have a new album coming out, which can be downloaded or purchased through our site, https://www.tpaty.com

Both of these bands are out of Nashville. Both are up and coming and nothing short of awesome. Hightide Blues - Southern Rock & Roll. Very Black Crowes-ish. Currently recording their first full length album, but they have both their EP's and a live show free to download from their website. Amazing live performers. They tour the Southeast all the time. http://hightideblues.com/music.html The Kicks - Extremely catchy pop rock/rock and roll. Kinda hard to classify. Every song sounds different. Good harmonies. Great sound. I love these guys. They tour here and there around the Southeast as well. They need to tour more. http://thekicksrock.com/ (click the round CD icon on the upper right hand corner)

The media company I work for is promoting a band called Maximilian Is King. They're based in NYC and they've got a great, solid sound in my opinion. Right now they're offering a free MP3 download of their song "Strange Like Me" for anyone who becomes a fan of their Facebook or Myspace pages. However, as a special offer to goons, if you become a fan of their page I'll let you pick the song of which you'd like a free MP3, out of any of the songs on their Myspace page. Just PM/email/IM/etc. me (info's in my profile) with your Facebook or Myspace username after you've friended them and once I've verified it I'll send you the MP3 of your choice. Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/maximilianisking Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/maximilianisking On a related note, the company themselves has some interesting stuff on their Facebook page (they had info for the Green Day show here in NYC last night long before anyone else did), so if you're in NYC and interested in that kind of stuff, their Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/pages/New-York-NY/Noble-Media/388862762505 blinkeve1826 fucked around with this message at 07:40 on Apr 25, 2010 |
