Dude don't spoiler tag that, its just your personal opinion and this thread has more black bars than a Japanese gay porn film. Also let's be real here, there's no way Martinez can be the big bad guy for this series, he's pretty old and Ippo still has some years to reach him. He'll be retired. They might be prepping Woli for world champ.

You guys DID see Ippo land a hit, right? Granted, it was blocked, but Woli was completely surprised and thrown back. If Woli lets up again, I think Ippo's figured out his speed. I'm throwing in a prediction for a completely out of nowhere counter punch that destroys Woli in one hit. Ippo's been getting those small taps for a while now. This match still sucks all sorts of donkey balls, but Woli is going to get murdered in 3 chapters or less. Calling it now. This is the last hurrah for optimism.

If Woli loses now it will be because he makes a mistake. Ippo winning by being a better boxer is flat out impossible now.

A great ending would be if Ippo manages to land a gigantic bomb of a punch, as his last ditch effort to comeback. Woli takes it, he's rumbly and damaged, maybe even falls, but still presses on, and continues to beats the hell out of Ippo. The Coach tosses the towel. It'd be proof that his strategy of using pure retard strength punching power is not enough. Ippo is back to his old ways of acting like a living punching bag. I feel like we've jumped back in manga history a few years. I'd respect Woli a lot more if we knew about his potential toughness and tenacity for the world stage. I liked Gedo a hell of a lot more when I knew about his history. Gedo could've been a fascinating character if we spent a few chapters exploring his history as a thief, his poverty and hardship, and maybe went into detail about how the gunshot wound permanently tainted him. Mori is excellent at setting up the house of cards for all to see, then knocking them all over very abruptly. He does this by following the same boring story arcs. Mix it up a little, guy. I've never read Ippo, I want to though!, but after randomly reading that latest chapter, I have to wonder what the hell is going on. Ippo is like poking him with his fist while Woli is smashing his face in every drat page. How long has Ippo been putting up with this? Why is he not dead? And why does Woli have no emotion while he bounces around the ring? This poo poo is weird.

Right after Sawamura vs Mashiba, the manga truly took an enormous dive. While I am totally grateful for Mori's golden days of consistent high quality and story arcs, it's painful to see what the manga has become now. That's why I hope Ippo loses right now. It would mark a complete and utter end to this retarded trend of matches lately. Mori could re-invent his current path for Ippo's character from the ground up ,and maybe next time he steps into the ring he wouldn't be a complete fool.

Personally I don't think the series has ever truly been the same after Ippo's second title match. Think about the title defenses he had directly afterwards. A boxer who was a DOCTOR who could analyze his injuries mid-fight. A fisherman who took you "under the sea." Certainly there were patches of solid fights inbetween, such as Takamura vs. Hawk, or Kimura vs. Mashiba, but it just never reached the peak of Ippo vs. Sendou.

Ippo has been going on for a long time, and it is very good for most of it. It's just recently that things have gone downhill. As for this fight, we've got Woli, a racist caricature monkey-man, whose new to boxing. Using his monkey powers, and "talent" he's beating the crap out of Ippo, who appears to have completely forgotten what boxing is. Of course, our protagonist will probably come back in contrived manner. O. and Woli can levitate for some reason.

Ippo is an excellent series if you pretend it is over. Read issues 1 through 720, and then walk away. It won't be hard, the only reason you'll know that 720 isn't the last issue is because wherever you'll be getting it will probably have a 721. You'll have read a long, complete story full of pretty good fights, and you will be happy. Do not follow us into anger and hatred. Looking at it now, I wonder if his ankle got tweaked when the Ref tackled him. But Ippo getting the upper-hand due to dumb luck like that sounds off for the manga. On the other hand, his body blows haven't done anything. This is probably just raw fatigue. Remember that this guy only has three matches under his belt and has never broken a sweat. He's probably not used to noticing wear on his body in the ring.

There's no reason to be pissed at this so much. Woli might be a bit gimmicky, but in essence he's just very fast, very fit, very VERY confident, and has good spatial awareness. All the gimmicky poo poo was just icing with no real meaning. He's winning because he can consistently avoid punches, while landing his own through every single defense gap, without second guessing himself ever. So yeah he's just that good, and Ippo is gonna lose because he's honestly pretty bad, and the world is as it should be.

Swamp Zero posted:There's no reason to be pissed at this so much. You know, I honestly think this fight could be redeemed depending upon how they deal with the aftermath. Whether Ippo wins due to luck or loses, it's clear Woli is flat out better than him. They'll have to make some sort of change in the way he trains. Stuff like speed is hardly some innate talent (though it's possible a large portion of Japan might think it is), and there's no reason he couldn't become better at dodging punches or throwing his faster, or improving his footwork. What will be irredeemable is if Morikawa tries to somehow have Ippo "legitimately" win due to his guts or something. I have a bad feeling about this, largely because it seems like a large portion of Japan believes in the sort of video game "strength at the cost of speed" false dichotomy.

I think it's pretty obvious how Ippo is going to win this. I've had the feeling for a few chapters but this one made it even more obvious. Woli can't take punches for poo poo. You don't make a character without weaknesses. Especially in a manga like Ippo, a character who is just god mode-ing every aspect and has no weaknesses is straight up poo poo. So if you look at Woli, he's got ridiculous speed, godlike reflexes and can make up moves and tactics on a whim. On the other hand he has no physical toughness at all. When Ippo barely scratched his face at the start of the match he was so shocked he fell over. When his coach touched him with the chair it disturbed him a lot. So basically this fucker has dominated for 20 chapters but when Ippo finally manages to land one, single, clean blow, he's going to get knocked out cold in a snap. That's how Ippo is going to win - he just needs to overcome Woli's overwhelming offense and defense to knock his weak face out with one hit.

He is good at boxing because he spent all his time playing with monkeys! That gave him true monkey powers like defying gravity. When a punch is about 15 cm away from hitting him he, somehow, can retract the arm he's punching with and hit Ippo with his other arm before the hit connects. He has gimmicky super monkey powers. ... and he jumps around like the idiotic monkey-man caricature he is (and loves bananas)
