On the topic of bón mots, the highlight of Jimbo's continental newspaper roundup this week was describing Milan as looking "more shagged out than if they'd been to one of Berlusconi's parties"

RedPaddy posted:"Ligue 1 specialist" What's wrong with that? Whoever that was talking about Arsenal yesterday was embarrassing. I assume that's the same guy who said earlier on in the season that Arsenal had far and away the best squad and Wenger had been intentionally holding them back because they were still cut up over Eduardo getting injured .

Any decent Liverpool-centric one? I listen to a Celtic one (Celtic Underground) which is usually very interesting; takes on the current drama & gloom, look back at past glories, interviews with authors or Celtic books etc. Very interesting if yer a tim.

Bearproof posted:David Goldblatt, author of The Ball is Round: A global History of Soccer recently gave a talk at the London School of economics on global sport and global capitalism. I highly recommend it to everyone, as he discusses some critical issues in the game and covers a lot of geography in doing so. His style is a bit fiery but his rant on Tiger Woods is absolutely devastating. Check it out! Is there a link to download that talk? For those who havent heard. An emailer on the newest Football Ramble extra provides a story of bizarre footballer behavior almost on par with Crouchie's Nachoes. I give you Kusczak's beer gag: http://fourfourtwo.com/news/england/53150/default.aspx (about 12:30 in)

Monday Bandele posted:I would pay one English pound for a panellist-only edit of the World Football Phone-in Oh yes, I absolutely loathe the regular callers who spend 10 minutes saying hello and have to get their oh so clever quips in. Even worse are the people clamoring for a Brazilian shirt name. They shouldnt give them to people who beg (or at all really its played out). Dotun really isnt doing his job. Vickery, Top Brass and Wheelock are really wasted on that show 80% of the time. Speaking of BBC 606: I applaud that Villa fan calling up and setting Alan Green straight on his lazy critique of Martin O'Neil's 1 dimensional side. Made him look a right tit.

I posted this in the World Cup thread the other day, but Baddiel and Skinner are doing World Cup podcasts. I think they're going to be daily during the tournament coming out at 6am so that people will have them for their commute to work. The ones they did for the Times last time were great. Anyone know why there was no Soccernet podcast yesterday? Or was there one that just didn't download for me?

Not worth $5 a month when their are plenty of free alternatives. Also, for any Chelsea fans I highly recommend the Chelsea Football FanCast. The guys that run it are proper Chels and meet in the pub after the match. I have not found a better podcast yet, these guys are great.

Barney Ronay is an annoying prat, by far the worst of the football weekly regulars imo. Although Sean Ingle's stuttering is quite a handicap to have for an audio only format. Jimbo and Barry hold the show together sometimes.
