I think the battery cover and the speakers let the dust in.

Nope. :( I just dusted my N82 of inside dust 5 minutes ago before coming here. I need to do this every couple of months.

Eh?
Is there any way to get my n82 to turn off the radio if it can't find a signal, or if the signal level hits a low enough amount?

I'm starting to spend a lot of time underground commuting instead of overground. On top of that, I find myself going to a lot of near-dead-zones: places where I get no or next to none reception. The power drain saps my battery: I used to go at least four or five days without needing to charge it, and now it lasts maybe two days as a result.

Best profiles doesn't have an option for this, unfortunately, and I don't know of other options. Thanks!

Yes and Yes. It worked pretty well on my N95-3

The hardest part is Nokia's terrible, horrible business software website.

e: looks like they finally killed that site off. MfE is now in the Ovi store.

Same error message. It even suggests going to store.ovi.com, but clicking the link goes to the same error page.

I hooked up to PC Suite and made sure I'm on the latest firmware. Ovi fails whether through browsing in the web browser or the icon in Apps/. I created an account on my PC just fine, and when I send to mobile, it sends a link via SMS which just directs me to the error page.

@futurerheza This time it is more than luck. Nokia just hit the nail very well with this device. I have used a proto for one entire day, a friend works for the company and let me stay with the device for a sunday, and boy I was surprised.

It is very very fast, even with all the debugging tools and crash logging services enabled. S3 finally has transitions as smooth as in Android or iPhone. IMO it is even faster than my N900. Task switcher is nicely done, even though I prefer the Maemo/MeeGo version. UI wise the colors are very pleasent and S3 feels more consitent on the entire system (no more weird looking/behaving icons/menus). Home screen is certainly a big improvement compared to previous Symbian devices, much better that that stupid iPhone grid, but not as configurable as Maemo/MeeGo yet. Icons/widgets go on predifined space, have not seen widgets occuping more than one block... yet. On screen keyboard is also very much improved and better looking than any other Nokia on screen keyboard. The layout and design are very pleasent and it does not look clunky like the N97 or N900.

The screen is a thing of beauty, nice colours, touch sensitivity is the same as found in a device like iPhone or Android as well, camera it is just outstanding the pictures look awesome on the phone and great on my 42 inch tv, I just plugged the HDMI and bam! there it was... Incredible. One thing that I didnt like, and is my gripe with the Nexus One as well, is that under a lot of sunlight its rather difficult to see the screen. Its just the way AMOLED is... So if you live in Sahara, I suggest buying something else than an AMOLED device. Also it has pinch-and-zoom (I personally dont like pinch-and-zoom) but it works very nice.

The music player cover flow it is the best thing I have seen since the iPhone cover flow, thanks to Nokia beta labs experiment that Engadget so comically mocked few months ago. Ovi Maps was not the most recent one, of course this will change on the final version, but behaved like expected... Very reliable and I could get a signal indoors and on my garage.

Social Networking/Chatting/Email accounts integration to contact book and widgets on screen are very nice... I cant say much of Chatting/Social Network sites because I am not a fan of those... I tried WebTV but the app didnt give me any feedback, I think they have not enabled the servers so.

Browser is very fast, with flash of course, and the UI reminds other Nokia browsers I wish they had changed the UI but at least you cant blame them for being consistent.

My work phone is an E72 and my personal phone is a N900... I love my N900, I ditched an iPhone 3G for it. I had an iPhone cos I was tired of S60 devices being slow and horrible to use... This is the first Symbian device in years that I am considering in buying as a personal phone.

@Yota

I have actually used the N8 hands-on (about 1 hour hands-on time). Trust me, in terms of browsing, multitasking (including switching between multiple apps), music even Symbian^3 is head and shoulders above whatever Android has. The Ovi Maps experience was not that great - I am not a fan of the current Ovi Maps UI. The main complaint I have is that the icons are just waaay too dated. I meant looking at the music player icon you would never realize that the underlying app is so cool to use. The UI is pretty smooth even in the early build software the phone had (but more updated than apparently what the ads on YouTube show) and the screen is just gorgeous with capacitive sensitivity rivaling that of the iPhone. Most of the annoying S60v5 messages are gone except I think 1 or 2 occasional ones (dont remember for sure). The camera is just out of this world (no kidding) - it actually works better and gives better pics than my $200.- P&S. The face tracking is pretty smart on this one and I hear it might be coming with Nokia's panorama app so you can shoot panoramas in 1 sweep.

To be honest, given a choice between the N1 and N8 (I have used both and have the N1), I would go for the N8.

Dont get fooled by the app processor Ghz numbers being bandied about - they are as useful as bandying about Megapixel numbers without knowing about the image sensor size.

Where can I find a good replacement housing for an N95 8GB?

Already tried the one on dealextreme... a waste of 4 bux. It seems Nokia does not sell one. The plethora on eBay is difficult to choose from. Maybe an aftermarket housing is a waste of time?

I don't think those phones were ever supposed to get S^3. Neither could run S^3 anyway.

The i8910 might end up running S^3. It has the hardware to do so and the hacker community might be able to get it to work once the N8 is out

The reboot behavior is weird too, it bypasses the PIN input even when it asks for time/date.

I had a blackberry that would exhibit similar random reboot behaviour when it was subjected to being moved from a hot and humid environment to cold air conditioned environment frequently. It stopped happening after the battery was replaced.

I would suggest opening the back of the E71 and see if there is any corrosion or damage, maybe bending, of the battery contacts.

Since it happens when on AC I'm stumped.

I heard the E71s have a problem with random reboots on 3G networks. Have you tried just using it with EDGE?

I'm rocking EDGE for now, I'm at a whole 15 minutes without a reboot!
