I had this problem and wondered whether it was due to having a max honour rating. I think if you have lower, more cops come after you more vehemently. It is possible there, though. I cleared out and lost my wanted level 4 or 5 times before getting a high enough bounty. A better area in Blackwater is that set of two roofs with a ladder to a higher roof. If you move between those two areas, you can cover more area in relative safety (be sure to use your cover properly though) and catch the coppers that are hiding a little more easily.

Just take cover against the corner in the alleyway (across from the stair pad) and shoot anyone that comes down the alley from the main street in front of the train station.

Once you've got the 5K bounty, whistle for your horse and tear the hell out of there and wait for the 'WANTED' to go away. Then turn around and go right back to the train station to use your pardon letter.

Yep, and here I thought I was the only one who used that spot. Also great for head shots and getting public enemy X amount of times.

They did nerf it, but the varying xp is because the more people in your freeroam, the more points you get. They don't have to be anywhere NEAR the hideout, but if you grind twin rocks in a full 16 player freeroam, you'll get more points than, say, you and two other people.

Thanks, I got the beavers last night just northwest of Beecher's Hill, a whole group were there and I laughed and killed every one of those stupid beavers. But I've heard good things about the back of the stagecoach. The Red Dead wiki has some editing problems at times and I wasn't really sure of what to do.

I just went to my safehouse in Armadillo. You can shoot them from the balcony and start up a save in one of the extra slots to save up all of your bounty progress. Eventually they stop coming when you take out enough in a wave, just save and keep going when you wake up. Stock up on health so you don't feel the shame of losing to just one wave. Then you can reload a previous save if you like having honor.

So if I'm going for it on a roof in Blackwater, I've got to keep the cops interested me that whole time? That makes this a lot more difficult.

e: Just confirmed that that's not true. You can lose the wanted level with the AI immediately after you become a public enemy as long as you end up staying alive for 10 minutes.

I did this from the third story of the largest building in Chuparosa. The only way up is a little ladder, and provided that the posse/army is interested in you they'll know where you went and follow. It's easy to kill them one-by-one as they come up the ladder and for some reason they always seem to know where you are. I think I was there for 12 or 13 minutes before I got bored and fought my way back to the street.

I wanna play poker and liar's dice in free roam SO BAD. Just make it an event that temporarily suspends you from the game world, like going to the outfitter!

edit: I had a great hardcore free roam session last night. Me and two people in my posse against two other people, everyone with carcano rifles, having this big ol' sniping match in the hills outside of El Presidio. It got pretty intense, actually, especially when I discovered that the bush I was hiding in was only 15 feet away from the bush my target was hiding in.

This is exactly how I played it. Hence my hope for some sort of fame/honor reset.

Doesn't much matter in the end, though. I'm content with the idea of Jack dragging the family name through the muck.

I didn't even know about the Friends in high Places achievement when I decided to go on a killing spree just for fun.
I put on a bandanna and just started shooting at everyone. At first, I went into the Blackwater sheriff's office, covered behind the counter and blasted the marshalls and army guys away whenever they tried to get inside.
After that, I went to the bar in Blackwater, covered behind the bar and shot everyone who came in.
I did this for about 2 hours, just killing everyone and everything.
I also shot the telegraph office dude (by accident), so I had to ride back to MacFarlane Ranch with a shitload of marshalls chasing after me.

My bounty was about 15 000$ when I gave the pardon letter. It was fun reading all the crimes I had committed during the spree. :unsmith:

Oh ho ho, I once thought like this cause everybody was just about finishing the game when I was just sorta getting into it and every page was spoiler ridden. I actually got the game spoiled for me but I'd actually already figured it out. Here's why:

I thought the main character was the same voice as Johnny Klebitz from GTA IV: Lost and Damned. So I looked that up in the back of the manual and it wasn't. However right below it was the voice of a Jack Marston. This was before I'd even heard much of Jack's son in the dialogue to even assume I'd ever see him in the game. So I figured with such a high billing in the credit's he'd end up as a playable character. I didn't know until it got spoiled here that I ended up playing as a grown Jack. I figured that maybe by the time I came home Jack was old enough to be a little bit of a bad rear end and I'd do a couple missions as him. Maybe him and John fight off some feds or something. I was really happy it ended the way it did but gently caress the guy who loving ruined it on here.

From what I've been seeing online, apparently you can clear out your system cache, go in to RDR and refuse the update (because it did nerf that XP), head in to System Link multiplayer alone, and get un-nerfed XP for hideouts. I haven't yet tried it yet myself, because I don't know if I want to put that much time in to grinding a single hideout alone for hours on end, but it might be an option.

Many of the animal spawns are linked to the environment. In a lot of areas, cougars only spawn at dawn, and at dusk.

In other news, the most fun in the game for me is still the co-op missions but there's starting to be a real rear end in a top hat factor in the pickup groups (start The River, spawn on the raft, get shot in the back of the head at point blank range). Apparently "cooperative" is not a word for a lot of XBL players. Anyways, I'm trying to start the advanced missions now and they're really pretty challenging. So anybody who wants to hit those (Euro evenings and weekends) drop a line. GT: Alrindel.

Don't read this unless you have 100%. This might be a foolish question but, why do you feel Jack is bad and not good? Because he grew up knowing how to ride a horse, skin an animal and fire a gun? I didn't get the sense that Jack was bad in the slightest, I figured he lived the good life with his mother up until she died and afterward didn't know what else to do besides kill the man who ruined his childhood and his family. Obviously I'm a completely different person in an entirely different time but I know I'm a good person and I would have done the same thing.
