I did that challenge using the phosphorus bullets and I definately did not hit all of them in the head(after I lit 5 of them on fire I shot a couple of them in the head just in case).

Yeah. It'll take a few for the zombies to officially die, but when I had to get the Sharpshooter challenge I just went nuts and start shooting every zombie I could get into my sights. Be damned if it didn't work.

jonmitz posted:I just started playing the game not too long ago. Is there any wisdom anyone can provide? Don't steamroll through the story missions, be sure to enjoy the open world and do things at your own leisurely pace. The game is very enjoyable in this fashion. Do Challenges! (including outfits!) They're fun, and you learn a lot of about the game's tempo by doing these, which inherently help you explore and 'practice' different things just by nature of getting around. Be sure to look for a Nature Map and an Animal Map online if you don't mind that sort of resource 'shortcut'. Or feel free to rough it like a champ and figure hunting grounds out for yourself, by all means! Strapped for cash? Spend a few hours all over the wilderness hunting whatever suits your fancy. Poke around online for a merchant guide that details what animals sell better in a given location. It's both fun and useful. Alternately, you can purchase a bandana at Thieves Landing, cover your face with it (via inventory), and stick people up at gun point to rob them (approach civilians with weapon at the high ready, if they stick their hands up, you can get close and rob them, but beware... Some folks don't take kindly to you sticking a gun in their face ). ROB THE BANK AT ARMADILLO! It's fun, hard, and you get into a massive gunfights with the law! Edit: The relevance of the bandana is preferential - Wearing a bandana prevents your HONOR from moving at all (not good, nor bad) when you commit a crime or even act as a good Samaritan. Good deeds and bad deeds, no honor judgment while wearing a bandana. Along with this, removing your bandana while hiding and WANTED will help your wanted level go down much faster. Connect your account to the Rockstar Social Club and have fun trying the different Social Club Challenges that activate all throughout the game! Have fun, partner e: Be sure to get on your XBL/Playstation Store and download the FREE content for RDR. There's sweet outfits with important game-benefits like recovering 2x animal parts from hunting/skinning, and improved arms trading! You can BRIBE witnesses to your crimes - annotated by a moving an 'eye-con' on your HUD after you've committed a crime in civilian presence. You can also bribe lawmen if you're close enough to them, and not actively resisting. Similarly, if you'd rather not duke it out with the law, you can SURRENDER by holstering your weapon and standing still. Marston will raise his hands in defensive surrender, and will be arrested by the nearest approaching lawmen. A couple days in jail, a laundry list of crimes, and you're a free man. Be careful when aiming at targets crossing in front of your horse. I lost the stallion from Bonnie's mission hunting rabbits for the sharpshooter challenge. I was not so sharp. You can save your game quickly by clicking on a horse's deed. This comes in handy when you're hunting and collecting plants because if you get killed by the cougars you're hunting, you can lose everything you got after your last save. jonmitz posted:Also what would have happened if I missed the flying hat or got beat up in the snakeoil thing? Half of me wanted to lose it to see and the other half wanted to be a badass I missed the target in the first part of Nigel's show twice, all that happened was the crowd groans and Nigel says it takes a bit for the elixer to kick in. My aim got much better by the time I beat the game. The challenges helped a lot.

jonmitz posted:Is there any wisdom anyone can provide? Beware the revenge cougar and his big brother, the ninja bear. I poo poo you not. Deadeye is an instant reload. It also increases accuracy, very nice for quick headshots with a pistol or repeater (typically less accurate than a rifle outside of Deadeye). Don't be afraid to just ride around and do random stuff in between main story missions. Hunting, bounties, stranger missions. It's usually fun and rewarding. Keep an eye out for roadside ambushes. If a lone woman is standing beside a broken-down carriage, look for the 3-5 bandits hiding nearby. Also, if someone asks you for a ride and just runs up without permission, shoot them in the head before they take your horse. Sometimes folks genuinely ask for help, though.

I think I got an escort mission one time. It's been a while, I could be mistaken. Either way I always check behind the carriage and there's usually some violence afterwards. PlasticPaddy posted:How do I do the Landon Ricketts quest in Mexico? And how do I get to that town on the bluff or whatever in the far eastern part of Mexico? Torquemada can be accessed through a path to the northwest (more west than north). You curve around east and south through some ruins as you ascend. In the vanilla campaign, Landon Ricketts should be available as soon as you wrap up the main New Austin missions. Hitch a boat ride with Irish and the LR icon should light up in Chuparosa. In Undead Nightmare, LR should open up again as soon as you get to Mexico. There may not be an icon (only played through it once). He's in Casa Madrugada.

My advice for just starting out is to explore. Don't race from mission to mission. A lot of the fun is the random crap that happens in the middle of nowhere. Wolves are bags of money on feet. They attack in large groups and it pays off to kill and skin them. Cougars go in pairs and bears, for whatever reason, move in packs. Watch your rear end in Tall Trees. Also do multiplayer, it's a blast.

Thanks for the tips. One question: Is there some way to change deadeye from the multitarget mode that unlocks after a few missions back to the normal one? I find it to be useless when it automatically picks targets and fires 10 bullets into them. I really liked deadeye it owned but now i think its bulky/awkward/overkill/lame. I tried putting taregtting mode to expert but it didnt change anything
