Probably not as big of news for you guys as it is for me, but my band booked a show with Caspian They've been a favorite of ours for years and one of our biggest sources of inspiration. Also playing that show are Moving Mountains and Chiaroscuro. I hadn't heard about either of them before this show was booked, but I've since checked them out and they're both amazing. I'm so incredibly excited. It's going to be our CD release show, too, and the first show we've played in about 4 months. What better way to get back out there?

Caught this new Jim Beam commercial starring Willem Dafoe during the season premiere of Justified Wednesday night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u286SqSr_5g On top of being really nicely done, I was wondering if any of you recognize the music? Sounds like Young Mountain-era TWDY with a spot of Calm Blue Sea for good measure.

It's certainly different from anything they've done before, feels a lot more jammy and less structured than most of their other work. I'll reserve final judgment until I hear the whole album, but I do remember hearing Welcome, Ghosts and feeling pretty meh about it, and I ended up really enjoying All of a Sudden... You guys know if they are doing another remix album along with this one?

It sounds like a Foals track for the first third, but I usually view tracks that are sub-2 minutes as a fill between lengthier tracks, especially when EITS usually pump out averages of 8 minutes. So I'm not taking it as indicative of the rest of the album, although I'm hearing some new stuff in the last third that I'm liking.

I'm not sure how to feel about this, but this probably won't be indicative of the actual album. The beginning's kind of bad, but I'm loving the end. I honestly just need to listen to it more.

Just listened to it for the first time, and I really do like it. It sounds like they've taken what they've done in the past and made it faster, more dynamic, which is basically the only complaint I have with the Explosions material that I don't really dig much. I'm very interested to hear more.
|
# ? Mar 9, 2011 03:32 |
I think that the track sounds awesome - it's different than anything I've really heard by them, but still at its core sounds like them. It made me really excited for the new album, and I hope that they come to DC, and not just Richmond VA

I could do without the "ruh ruh ruh" in the background but otherwise that track is fantastic, if a bit short. I like the comment someone said about it sounding more jam-like than their other more structured work. It's faster and while I love pretty much all of EitS' older material, most of it is slower-paced and I like the new direction, if that song is an indication of it and not an exception.

Let me back in, The last track, is absolutely phenomenal. edit: This album is extremely well put together. The quality this band managed to fit into 6 tracks is just outrageous. They made every one count. Trembling hands sounds much better as a piece in the whole as well. I had my doubts when I heard that track before but you really get to see how expertly it fits in with the entire album. I'm going to run it back now. Played a show with Caspian tonight. In addition to being incredibly nice guys, they were better tonight than when I saw them last Spring. That is to say that they were absolutely loving fantastic and still the most energetic/fun to watch post-rock band I've ever seen live. Chiaroscuro and Native were also awesome. Great show all-around.

I thought the new EITS was kind of interesting at first, but then it descended back to the same old delay pedal boredom they've been churning out for years. Good for them for sticking to their own style I guess. It's just not very interesting anymore.

Nuclear Spoon posted:You've probably been asked this before, but if you're playing with Caspian then you guys must be really loving tight. Have you got a link to your stuff? I actually haven't! And not exactly. We met them last Spring when they played here in New Orleans and kept in contact with Phil. They were going to pass through here and we needed to book our album release show, and it kind of all just fell into place. We were very lucky and blessed to have gotten such a great opportunity And they all liked our set and offered to play with us again in the future, so that's pretty amazing. The whole thing still seems kinda unreal to me. They've been one of my favorite bands for the last few years, and The Four Trees and Tertia are both up there as some of my most listened to post-rock albums ever, and there we were, just hanging out with them in the green room at the venue, talking and joking like we'd been buddies for a while. But yeah, anyway, here's our album teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4o23k_RO1E The quality on YouTube kinda sucks, though. We have some full songs up on our Tumblr page if you want to listen to those: http://aiuaband.tumblr.com I apologize for all the self-promoting here. It's just a post-rock dream come true for me, and I'm floating on Cloud 9 after that show
