I played a slightly-over-an-hour set on an internet streaming thing last week. My set starts at 1:02 http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/14324001 Sorry it's all distorted, that was not my fault.

Anyone been experimenting with using the iPad (or other tablet) to supplement your mixing? I saw James Zabiela use one once, although it was pretty lovely (he was just mashing buttons on the screen and it sounded pretty awful [he was adding some percussive effects]). I remember when I was in college there was some extremely expensive tablet mixing device. Thousands and thousands of dollars. mitztronic fucked around with this message at 21:16 on May 5, 2011 |

You mean the Lemur? Using a touchscreen for music has never appealed to me. The tactile sensation of a button, knob, or fader is important to me. I could imagine using one to browse my library, but that's about it.

if you're from dc you probably know who smash gordon is, owner of steez promo. he has a new mix out (http://getyoursmashon.com/) and for how much it's been hyped up it's kind of bad. i'm also not going to comment on how retarded his site looks.

My first attempt at a set, all criticism welcome. http://soundcloud.com/baddancr/may-9-first-mix A few things I know I need to work on: - Track selection - definitely didn't know I had this much repeat material thanks to lovely mp3 labeling on my part. also need to work on not using poo poo from 2+ years ago. - Mixing/transitions - I use the same sort of transition a lot, and it works occasionally but sounds kind of cluttered and ugly when it doesn't. - Drums - kind of a key part of the mix. The drum part is pretty much the same the whole time, once I get a better interface to trigger different patterns this will be easier to fix. Also, are the drums (especially the hi hats) too loud in general? I feel like they might be drowning out the mix edit: forgot the tracklist: Pretty Lights - Finally Moving (James Brown Remix) Lykke Li - Little Bit (Gigamesh remix) Cut Copy - Pharaohs and Pyramids Black Van - Moments of Excellence (Holy Ghost Version) LCD Soundsystem - Tribulations (Acid Invaders Mix) Yelle - Ce Jeu (The Twelves Remix) Classix (feat. Karl Dixon) - Into the Valley Cicada - Metropolis (The Twelves Remix) Anoraak - Long Hot Summer Night [Not sure what song this is] Lil Wayne - A Milli (Pyramid Remix) Justice - D.A.N.C.E. (Ken Loi Remix) Bag Raiders - Sunlight Empire of the Sun - We Are The People (Jimmy2sox Remix) Cut Copy - Corner of the Sky Caribou - Sun (Pyramid Remix) Anoraak - Crazy Eyes Two Door Cinema Club - Something Can Work (Twelves Remix) Metric - Help I'm Alive (Twelves Remix) Foster the People - Houdini (RAC Remix) Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks (Gigamesh Remix) aarontxwl fucked around with this message at 00:55 on May 10, 2011 |

I did an all-vinyl hip-hop mix at a small venue here in portland last night. It's pretty straightforward and nontechnical--not nonstop beatmatching. It's four hours long and very Def Jux-heavy. I want to check before processing and uploading it--any interest in listening?
