It really should not be that hard. Just run (don't walk) in circles once he cokes up; he won't be able to catch up to you. Then all you have to worry about is gunfire when he isn't coked up, and there's lots of pillars and whatnot to hide behind.

The number one causes of problems with that fight seem to be not realizing there's a sprint button, or trying to attack him while he's high, so make sure you aren't doing either of those.

If it's still a problem, Nehru has some good advice behind that spoiler tag.

Picked this up cheap during the Steam sale, fantastic game. Only completed Saudi Arabia so far but I'm enjoying it a lot despite the quirks and occasional eye-rolls at the plot. However, I read in the Steam newsfeed for the game that the series won't be continued due to poor sales and metacritic score. That's a shame, this game is certainly a good companion to the Mass Effect series for your hybrid FPS/RPG dollars. Oh well.

Sega said they won't publish it. Obsidian still owns the IP and has said they at least would make a new AP given the chance. I'm hoping the Steam sale has expanded the probable player base of a sequel enough that it starts making economic sense.

(In the meantime, people might as well post their own reviews on metacritic to boost the user rating. The critics got this one wrong. Nothing wrong with showing it.)

Googling "Alpha Protocol 2" les me getting mad at video game journalism opinions again :saddowns:

http://www.destructoid.com/sega-says-there-will-be-no-alpha-protocol-2-178294.phtml posted:

Sega has admitted that despite a "brilliant" concept, Obsidian's Alpha Protocol will not be getting a sequel due to a poor sales performance. Sadly, we don't give out awards for just having good ideas. Good games often have to be attached to them.

"Let's speak very commercially; the game hasn't sold what we've expected, therefore we won't be doing a sequel," says Sega's US boss Mike Hayes. "The concept was brilliant, though. You know this whole thing with Metacritic where you have to be in the high 70s to mid-80s minimum [to have any success] - well, with RPGs you have got to be in the late 80s. (DRAGON AGE 2???)

"Whilst we had a good game, I don't think we had a game that had enough to get us to that upper echelon and I think that was the issue. Again, the amount you need to invest to get there is so large because RPGs are naturally big projects. We've decided we won't do a sequel."

Charging $60 for a game that looked and played like it was worth less than $20 probably didn't help. Alpha Protocol had all the dressing of a budget game, and I'm still surprised that anybody had the nerve to charge a full retail price for it. Maybe a sequel could have seen the game "done right," but the game was done so badly the first time around, I think it'd take a whole new studio to fix it.

:supaburn:

I don't know if destructoid's popular at all or anything, it's just the fact that this is the general perception in a lot of writups about Alpha Protocol when it seems like the person writing it never even played the game.

This is really common for anyone doing a stealth run, let alone a first timer. Stealth has a dumb curve where it's almost useless at first and then suddenly becomes an unstoppable monster. Try to get Awareness as soon as possible so you know where all the guards are at any point in time and you won't be randomly tripping alarms anymore. Get some stealth armor as soon as possible and you'll be able to crouch around at full speed without guards hearing you. Get a silencer for your pistol and chain shot- and you're pretty much set. Then you'll get a feel for guards sight lines (you can often crouch up to a guard directly in their peripheral vision without alerting them) and become ninja-thorton.

EMP's are barely a drop in the bucket cost-wise and the extra money you make from hacks is nowhere near worth the points investment unless you want the gadget buffs too.

I know that the hardcore fans of this game are, among other things, hellbent on believing that every skill is completely awesome in its own way, but some of them really are just lopsided and clumsily implemented (and most of the others are completely broken, but those are obviously the ones reasonable people choose instead).

I think the silencer I start with each game is from the stealth DLC pack that came with my 360 copy (which, as has been stated, is virtually bug free).

Everyone really should post a review on Metacritic, it'd only be appropriate if AP became the bizarro DA2 in terms of user reviews being vastly different from those from on-the-take bloggers.

Even if we don't get a proper sequel, I'm holding out hope that there's a spiritual sequel in the pipe. The studio could use a fresh start with a new IP and I'm sure they feel they've learned a lot since this was released. I'm sure Obsidian would like to have a Mass Effect of their own, and with lots of people calling for that property to be a bit more RPG-like I think there's probably room in the marketplace for a similarly modern action RPG. As much as I'd kill to have a sequel with save importation, though, I wouldn't want them to have to limit the player choice and dynamic characterization in order to facilitate a sequel with manageable outcomes.

Ahaha, I just for the fun of it read through a couple of reviews of Alpha Protocol. As we all know, most people who played this game without being completely disingenuous would say that it's a game with mediocre gameplay and amazing dialogue and a functioning plot. RPGFan claims to be fans of RPGs. I wonder what they have to say about the game...

rpgfan posted:

A wacky personality and a few bizarre idiosyncrasies cannot replace genuine character development and real emotion. As Thorton hacks into computers and picks up pieces of intel along the way during missions, the in-game codex reveals much of what little background characters have. God forbid Thorton actually talks to other characters to reveal this information.

[...]

Should we eventually learn through an anonymous Internet tip that a team of high schoolers wrote Alpha Protocol, I doubt there would be much surprise. At best, the dialogue is a functional vehicle to advance the plot; generic, flavorless, and verbose without saying much more than "go here, meet him, get intel." At its worst, it's fourth-grade humor, hackneyed one-liners, and hyperbole.

I initially avoided too much Sabotage because I was told long before I got the game that a bug or glitch would make the minigames more difficult if you over indulged in the skill. That made my recruit run a bear. It has certainly not panned out to be true in my vet run.

I never saw anything dice-rolley about it, but then I've also only ever played the pistol game. The one time I did rely on the dice roll mechanic was this one instance in which I was literally desperate to kill an enemy because I was out of endurance, running out of health, way too far away from cover to make a break for it, and at the rate I was taking damage, I would've easily died before my pistol skill would've had time to zoom and crit. I just mashed the fire button and hoped something would stick. I was lucky and it did.

Actually, that's probably a lot like how it would work in a comparable real life situation.

I thought it was kind of cool that you get more rep points with Scarlet if you treat her professionally on that mission (in particular) and compliment her on her reporter skills rather than flirt with her and compliment her looks (which makes you lose points). Weird SIE rape scene aside, the gender dynamics in this game were pretty balanced and the women were realistically written and drawn (and dressed). The best game. :allears:

My favourite complaint against KOTOR2 has always been how frustrated and angry people get about its approach to black/white, Light/Dark morality. It's meant to be complicating and confusing things, it's demonstrating how morality systems as binary and simplistic as that simply don't work under any sort of scrutiny; the game's theme is of deconstruction.
