hmm, i'm not totally blown away by it. i've always thought milkman/GT were better than e603 and this cd only reinforces that.

Yeah I feel the same way about Smokeshow as I did about Torn Up: There's some great moments, but they're few and far between. It's largely uninvolving but there's a few parts that grab you. It's about time someone used 'You can call me Al' though. So well done there. My main issue with it is that I'll hear a sample and think "Oh yeah it was good when Girl Talk used this one".

Eh. I've listened to it twice and it's pretty disappointing. It doesn't really flow all that well and a lot of it just sounds.. wrong. Like the samples aren't in the same key or something. For example, track 9 around 0:45-1:15. Maybe I'm imagining that but the vocals and the instrumental bits sound really awkward together.

Chalk me up as another "Disappointed" vote. I loved the use of LCD (he doesn't get enough love in these), and as always, the best part is a Luda sample, but it feels very samey. I wish there was a website where you could sort by song, and see if and where a song is sampled in all of the major mixtapes (Ludachrist, GT, Milkman, SMB, E-603, probably more that I haven't gotten around to yet), and what part of the song (beat, lyrics, instrumentals) they use, just for reference. Like, I'd love to see how each different artist used something like Kids, or how many different Luda songs have been put into some of these.

Pros: He has a good diversity of samples and I heard some things I haven't before. Cons: He didn't mix them as well as he could have in a lot of places.

The teasers to me implied that the Dance Yourself clean + MIMS + Ice Cream Paint Job was going to be longer but nope, it's really that short.

The use of Sexyback is pretty terrible in this regard. It's slowed right the gently caress down so it's almost like a slur. I mean Timberlake's vocals are already a little off kilter for that song anyway, but there are moments that reek of someone's first time playing around with Ableton. Like someone else said, I like the diversity of his samples (I love the use of a hosed Up song towards the end) but it's full of awkward moments. Not to bring up Girltalk again but one of the things I think that GT does well is he's aware of the flow and energy of his songs. There's a moment in Smokeshow where it builds and builds and then the music essentially stops, and the energy just vanishes. It creates a weird kind of disconnect and pulls you out of it. It makes me appreciate 'Torn Up' even more, which is odd seeing as I don't like it that much.

I think Smoke Show is basically the opposite of All Day. Smoke Show has good sample diversity and mediocre mixing. All Day has played-out samples but fabulous mixing.

Yep, and amazingly mixed played-out samples beat poorly mixed diverse samples every time. I really love All Day, it builds momentum and then uses it all up in these amazing moments.

I don't even want to get into this because I really like Smoke Show. I agree that certain parts don't work the best together but the parts that do are spot on. The only thing I'm seriously disappointed with is that the whole mix is only 40 minutes long. I do agree that the first minute of Every Weekend is really weak, but as far as I'm concerned I haven't really run into much that I haven't really enjoyed. I guess I care more about sample diversity than I do how well it's mixed. Finally, I have a huge hard-on for E-603 because on Torn Up he sampled my favorite band in the whole world: Math the Band.

I really love when they use a catchy melody for creating the hook, so I had huge hopes for a heap of moments like that but no dice I mean, it has its cool parts and even in some parts I don't much care for, I can still appreciate what he was trying to do (see: Adele at the start of Like This), but there's some really boring parts to this album. It's a let-down since I really enjoyed both his previous ones

So listening to All Day I was reminded of the classic song I wish by Skee-Lo. "I wish I was a little bit taller/I wish I was a baller" etc. I KNOW I have heard this from another mashup artist but cannot place it. I have Super Mash Bros., Girl Talk, e603, and Milkman on my playlist. Can anyone figure this out for me it's infuriating me I keep trying to find it but can't

So I never tried to make a mashup before, and I really don't have much musical training, but for some reason I was bored today and wanted to give it a try. I must say it is much harder then I ever thought it would be, but is a really fun thing to at least attempt to do. After way to long I came together with this http://soundcloud.com/user5353068/wish-i-knew-take-2/s-7jyqJ Now to just figure out a way to combine the three sections together.
