As great Imaginations From The Other Side and A Night At The Opera are (despite the latter's godawful production), NiME just has that certain quality of utter brilliance to it that puts it head and shoulders above the rest. But in the end, you can't really go wrong with any of their albums. Oh and btw, THIS is the best Blind Guardian video ever. Nordick fucked around with this message at 22:47 on Oct 4, 2011 |

Thanks to the thread I pulled out some Blind Guardian. Been a long time. Apparently I got the remaster of Imaginations from the Other Side, it's actually quite an improvement over the original. The backup vocals are really clear, and a lot of other stuff outside the main guitar parts/drums are a lot cleaner in the mix. IRQ fucked around with this message at 01:12 on Oct 5, 2011 |

Some tracks I really just can't get enough of are Time What is Time, Somewhere Far Beyond, Imaginations, Born in a Mourning Hall, and Bright Eyes. Volbeat is basically just metalized rockabilly. It can be fun to listen to (and for a while they got a ton of airplay here in denmark mostly with this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q2NtjoYj_U and partly because it also featured the leadsinger of a fairly popular danish post-punk band) but ultimately there isn't really a lot to it. The vocalist used to be in Dominus which was a really solid death metal band and he even took the name from their album which was called "Vol. Beat". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7-uPJJDc-g

The best Blind Guardian song is the live version of Valhalla. In which Hansi decides he's done singing, and the crowd and the drummer keep going for a good two minutes. I know I've said this in the thread already. But man the new Wolfchant keeps growing on me. Its like everything I wanted from the new Amon Amarth album but didn't get.

Can anybody recommend some stuff that sounds similar to Bolt Throwers "Realm of Chaos"? Listening to it for the first time in a long while and it kicks so much loving rear end. Other than some old-school swedish death metal and grindcore, I don't have a lot of stuff in this vein.

So that is what it is called, Rockabilly. Been trying to figure out the name. Personally, they are my favorite band due to their um.. rockabilly-ness. I also like songs that sort of have a story to them and Volbeat even link several songs together making a longer story. Which is nice.

QPZIL posted:(Crossposting with the black metal thread) I like the idea of volbeat. I like the idea of heavy metal with a dose of old-school rock and roll, but it seems like volbeat just has too much of a pop sensibility. Too "clean", sort of. There's probably a musical theory based explanation, but I can barely remember scales, I'm not the one to talk about theory.

Listening to Volbeat for the first time. Sounds like Panic at the Disco vocalist had his voice run through the Cigarette and Autotune filters. The lyrics blow pretty hard, and the music was generally boring. I don't get it.

Take Elvis, make the Stray Cats his backing band and that's the idea behind volbeat. Lemmy's playing with some of them in Head Cat now, and I think all 3 of them are better. Rockabilly was punk before then and I doubt Danzig didn't take some cues from it.
