Turk February posted:"Djent" is a fictional sub-genre that somehow co-opted a lot of technical/progressive metal bands, but most of the bands who claim to be "djent" don't know how to write interesting song structures and just weedily-weedily-blooop their way through an album and that's about it. Djent is one of the dumbest things to happen to music. Wiki posted:The word "djent" is an onomatopoeia for a heavily palm-muted, distorted guitar chord. Hey everybody let's just rename each genre of music according to the onomatopoeia's of the type of sound they make. Personally, I think weedily-weedily-blooop would be a better term for that type of music.

Needs Pelican and Animals As Leaders. Would they fit into a 'post metal' or prog section? I personally would split black into new wave and older stuff, ie old: Burzum, Mayhem, etc; new: Wolves in the Throne Room, Nachtmystium, Watain. Also a founding/historical band list? Death, Bathory, Venom, etc. I wouldnt know where to draw a line under it.

Skyclad is the "founder" of folk metal and also fairly accessible (especially the newer cd's, since Martin left) I don't understand your question. Yes, there seems to be a lot of people doing what I want them to do -- suggesting the best videos to put up for each genre. And I am putting them up there! Right now I am limiting the videos in that post to just 4 per genre, but if people think that's too few for metal newbies to "get a feel for the genre", then we can increase it. The problem with more videos for each genre is cluttering, where the post gets too hard to read because of too many embedded YouTube videos.

I figured that a lot of the popular metal from the past decade or so has been related to metalcore, largely due to the radio-friendly style of the MA scene. Well, Iced Earth are listed twice in Power Metal. Quite frankly I have my reservations of calling them power metal at all, but let's not start a genre war now. Anyways, how about replacing the extra mention of IE with Helloween or Gamma Ray? Two rather quintessential power metal bands if you ask me. (I know you didn't.)
