I dunno, getting excited about the race, building up to the green flag, then loving it up on the first turn is a hell of a lot more disappointing than just missing the race entirely.

No, I was so panicked about sideswiping someone I was looking more to my right than I was ahead, and oh hey a turn.

Like I said just before green, everyone knows races are always won on the first corner :v:

...actually I take back my sarcasm on that one. Because you did win from the first corner :(

Chapter One:
When I first saw Sparky, he reminded me of my favorite comb. He was missing a lot of teeth.
It was a decent turnout for a first event, and I think everyone had a good time, aside from some grumbling about the Cockpit View.
Asmodai slipped from 2nd to 8th in the first turn on the first lap, running wide into the dirt. Wups. (Dude - if you'd have held on, Crow overdrove a couple laps and trashed his car. I think everyone lapped him eventually! *grins*)

There was a good fight for 2nd and 3rd going on during the final 2-3 laps, but like hell if I'm going to fast forward 90 times in the replay editor to get to it.

Consistency was really the key, along with being able to get through the Corkscrew consistently without hitting the sand. Logue and I were using the exact same setup, and had VASTLY different results.

It went well enough that N>1 for this series. I've co-opted the BMW CCA's Spec E36 Points Structure for this series.
* 5 points for taking the green flag at any event.
* 10/7/5/4/3/2/1 points for finishing in 1st-7th place.
* 1 bonus point for each car behind you that does not DNF.

After week 1, the standings look like this (I think - I relied on the replay to tell me who took what position, and gently caress fast-forwarding 90 times. If I got it wrong, let me know, and I'll fix it):
code:
Entry List Points
1. Logue 1 21
2. Turb0Snail 17
3. Krautastic 14
4. Matybara 12
5. Fryskate 10
6. JabsTheGoon 8
7. Crow T Macbot 6
8. Asmodai 0 5
I think we're going to move the event to Wednesday Night in the future, and we're going to have a rotating Spec series. During practice, lots of ideas came up.
BMWCCA Spec E36, Spec Miata (which is different than Showroom Stock SpecMiata), NASA Spec E30, Spec RX-7, etc.

Thanks to all who showed up! I thought everyone did a pretty awesome job painting the cars using 'to spec', too.
I thought Asmodai's car was hilarious.

I'll post up some Spec E36 Rules by Sunday!

Thrilled you're thinking about a Wednesday move. I wanted to participate but Thursdays are GTCC:CCC nights. So barring the missus and I doing something, I should be able to race with you fine folk.

I went fictional:

Though older logos of current products are also easier to do. The Budweiser logo, for example, is fairly simple up untill the 90s or so when they changed from a type font to their current cursive branding.

Man I love rivals mode. I'm in a small car club with just a few of my friends and I started up the game to find a bunch of my rival mode times beaten. Unless it was a challenge I really liked I was going through various stages of sandbagging anyway. So I beat all my friends challenges easily and had this conversation

Me: Rival's mode: CHECK AND MATE
Friend: Which one?
Me: ALL OF THEM

The one with the Chevy R1 race car on road atlanta I beat his flying lap with my standing start lap, but I went slightly too far on the curb heading into the last turn and got a dirty lap. They're not very good :-/

GTCC does have a standing Wednesday Night thing. But with the amount of goons still playing this game I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Awesome, I didn't think this would turn out to be a weekly thing, let alone having a points total. Really happy you moved it to Wednesdays as well, now I don't have to skip wings and beer night to play video games with internet people!

I believe the newest Mitsu Lancer has a CVT as well. And from what I know, "infinate ratio transmissions" have been around in construction equipment (like CAT crawlers) for quite a while.

My housemate had a 1985 Ford Escort with a CVT.

Back then they were not good, the right pedal was strictly a volume control.

Softening up your springs will help with that. I recommend doing a maple valley specific tune because it's really the only track where you would want to run a soft setup.

But it helps a ton. You can take that section a whole lot faster when you don't have to live in fear of the curbs.

Nurburgring, and di positano also need rally setups. Heightend height, softer springs, etc.

The '89-'94 Subaru Justy has the (somewhat dubious) distinction of being both the first car with a CVT and the last car with a carburetor sold in the US.

It's like watching a rivals time you actually have a shot at beating, and you start to notice that all the top players have found a spot where you can get a wheel over the line without punishment.

I just can't stay consistent. I take turns perfectly one lap, then gently caress them up badly the next lap. When I hosed the corkscrew (as painful as it sounds) for the 6th time, I just didn't have the heart to continue.
