Question to Kilonum (host): Will we be able to leave the braking line on? I usually don't race with it on, but I make a special exception for Old Le Mans. Also, you may want to decrease the overall time. 2.5 hours will scare a LOT of people away. Maybe make it 1.5? Logue fucked around with this message at 04:34 on Nov 12, 2011 |

On the one hand, I want to say "just do practice laps ", but on the other I can understand this. Though if anything I'd change the time to 2.4 hours, because 2.4 huers du le mans Also, Kilonium, are we doing old Mulsanne or the new Le Sarthe? Old makes more sense if we want to be vintage appropriate, but new is probably a better track so it's up to you.

And I didn't grumble, I was sniveling about the view. (My own limitation, can't use that view well) Had a blast, and will be back next week. Who knew losing so badly could be so much fun?

Anyone else find the World Tour AI can be ridiculously difficult sometimes? Maybe my tune was just way out of whack, but I remember one race in particular where for the life of me I wasn't able to beat M. Rossi on Silverstone in his F430 - the same car I drove - and I'm talking rewinds just to take the corners near perfectly. The only way I finally managed to get him was by abusing the glue sand as a brake and ramming him off the track. Regular "professional" AI from the event list doesn't even come close to driving this fast. Also there seems to be a distinct, World Tour AI-exclusive behaviour that I can only describe as anti-rubberbanding, which may as well be the cause for this unnatural pace. Cars that are in front of you fight tooth and nail to keep their position, but as soon as you pass them they give up. Completely. Like, three laps to catch up a 40m lead and finally pass, and half a lap later you're 100m ahead. It's also very noticeable on the minimap, where the cars in front of you are close together but overall miles away from those you passed right at the race start. Then, as soon as you pass one of these cars they slow down and eventually rejoin the backmarkers after a while, or at least stay at roughly the same lead they had on the field when you passed. Doesn't even matter which particular AI drivers are involved; have two cars in front of you on the first corner, those will fight, but rewind and leave five cars in the lead and those will be the difficult nuts to crack. Pass everyone before T1 and you can pretty much sail to victory at a comfortable pace. Not on every race, but sometimes winning legitimately seems nigh impossible, and I don't think I'm such a slow driver either. I wish racing games would put more effort into believable AI in general. I know it's difficult, but if it weren't for rivals mode and online (goon) races Forza wouldn't be nearly as fun. Without a gold account you'd be even more screwed, as you can't even set up custom AI races, which is a big WTF on a completely different level by itself.

I'm not sure how much is chance and how much is actually happening. If I'm in the lead and I stay up to pace, the cars behind me disappear. If I mess up a single turn, they seem to dive in and trail brake like pros just to ram my rear end. Just for laughs I tried a passing / 1-on-1 challenge on Fujimi Kaido in an SUV and the computer car seemed to get stuck behind every single mookmobile so I could catch up. I restarted with a real car, and I've never seen the computer be so skillful at avoiding hangups. So I don't know what to make of it. Sometime I actually need to look at the data, but I could swear the game pulls some tricks trying to add flavor.

I got the same feeling, but it's really not the lame, game-ruining rubber-banding that we saw in other titles. It's more of a mechanic to make races feel like actual battles rather than just you annihilating/being annihilated with no hope of real competition. I like it.

For all you CSR wheel owners out there, I just found a link to the new 706 beta firmware (DL link, source), in case you don't want to hassle Fanatec support for it. I've flashed mine and it works perfectly so far; the XBox wireless noise is gone and presets save properly as well! Now all that's left is waiting for Turn10 to pull their thumbs out of their butts and finally release a patch that fixes the 900° steering.

The AI drives much better when they're in front of you and much worse the instant you pass. The result is that I never have an actual battle for position, I'm either trailing behind 2-3 cars that can out accelerate, out brake, and out corner my car or I'm blazing ahead 10+ seconds per lap. I've given up on the single player part of the game. Between the poo poo AI, poo poo alternative game modes, and stupidly short races it just isn't fun anymore. I would rather spend all night trying to get multiplayer to work than do another 3 lap race around tsukuba or more loving bowling on the top gear track.
