Yeah, it's really a shame how short the races are in event mode. Only the championship and regional races are decent length, everything else takes two or three minutes to complete. And configuring your own races is so much more of a pain in the rear end than selecting from a list of premade races. Oh well.

I think the only reason they did that was so they could show off their "track conditions" which as Falken so gracefully put during an online race: "Early afternoon isn't a track condition, it's a time of day"

What about designating a pace car for the first lap, do the course at 60mph max, then hit 80 approaching the line, then the pace car pulls off? I'm sure there is someone who can't stay the full race who could do it.

Okay, everyone, on the count of three, you run to your refrigerator, take a shot of Jack, down a beer, run back and go. Try not to pass out on the way back, you light weights.

Alternatively, need some help for a car that I'm really lacking in inspiration right now. I need to know what the German phrases are for "No Sponsor" and "This Space for Rent". Here's what I'm working with (German phrases provided by some internet bot, the side is suppose to be "No Group"). Otherwise, if someone has an awesome idea I should do, I'll totally (not) do it, just for you.

For anyone still thinking of a car to use for Goon Le Mans, I recommend at least checking out the Mercedes Gullwing 300SL. I actually got it around the old track faster than my Daytona, running a 3:49, but its a little less stable so I'm sticking with the Daytona. If anyone wants my gullwing setup, let me know.

Yeah, the longer races are where its at. Just got done doing a C-class season race that was 10 laps long at Sunset Club Reverse. After 4 laps I finally got around the 2nd place car and was 6 seconds behind the front-runner, who was walking away from me on the straights but couldn't handle nearly as well as I could. I didn't think I'd be able to reel him in, but I was taking the turns faster and faster on each lap, and I caught up to him with half a lap to go and made a wild but successful pass on the next-to-last turn to take the win.

You can't have that kind of fun in a 3 lap race.

This race sounds like a blast, I love the cars from that era, but my work schedule won't let me make it on time. Saturday is our busiest day (more moneys for me), but I wouldn't mind a go at that tune just in case I am actually home.

The answer is, mate, because I want to do you slowly. There has to be a bit of sport in this for all of us. In the psychological battle stakes, we are stripped down and ready to go. I want to see those ashen-faced performances; I want more of them. I want to be encouraged. I want to see you squirm.

oxbrain posted:

I get the opposite feel from it. The AI drives much better when they're in front of you and much worse the instant you pass. The result is that I never have an actual battle for position, I'm either trailing behind 2-3 cars that can out accelerate, out brake, and out corner my car or I'm blazing ahead 10+ seconds per lap.

I tend to find the opposite, at least in world tour mode. When I'm behind them they brake very early and block any potential overtakes, but when I get past they brake very late and slam into me.

Just built an S650 Ferrari Dino as well. It's only 1 second off of my Daytona's time, but it handles MUCH better and is far less boat-y. It can take the entire Mulsanne straight with full throttle. No braking for the curve! This is a very well balanced, competitive car.

I highly recommend this car for almost any skill level. I'm throwing my Dino into the club garage. Let me know if you like the tune and I'll send it to you for use in Goon Le Mans.

This can be hella annoying, but it makes the race that much more exiting. Especially in the first 10 minutes everybody is on the edge because nobody wants to be that guy that hosed up and ruined a 2.5 hour race for a hand full of fellow goons.
Also you could set up a rule that allows a restart if poo poo hits the fan to hard in the first 5 minutes/~2 laps.

Yeah... do we REALLY have to have all of those emblems on our cars? Tire rack, yeah, I can understand one or two cars having that. Grassroots? Yup, that does make sense since people do do that, but yeah, the rest, no thanks. Let me put my own stuff on my car. I understand that it is being put that way so that we aren't driving unpainted, un spec looking cars, but I have already made my paint scheme based on what a spec E36 would look like if I owned one. I am actually a part of the auto racing world thanks to my stepdad's business and I have never heard of a spec series requiring that you place certain logos on your car. Hell, our fleet of spec Miatas only have Entropy Racing, the numbers, class, and some vinyl to make them look pretty on them.

I really don't feel like getting DQed for something as dumb as filling up my car at the Hess outside of the track rather than filling it up at the Sunoco inside the track since it is cheaper.(and contains no ethanol.)

If you really want me to put those things on, I will, but that will take some of the fun out of it for me.

Also, the Tire rack thing, that is going to be a bitch without the ability to put it on the windshield.

I really don't mean to come off as bitching and moaning, I just have been looking forward to actually running spec races like this since I got live and discovered that noone was running that stuff anymore in 3, and quite frankly, part of the appeal was actually making my own spec car paint schemes that looked good and made sense, not being forced to make my own version of an H&R car.

Edit: BTW, just saying, I do know that BMW CCA is sponsored by those companies, but I have also flagged when they were racing. Not all of the cars have those sponsors on the sides of their cars if I remember.

To your last point first - If you've built a Spec E36 (A Registered Trademark of the BMW Car Club of America, I learned today) car, you'd better be running the required decal package, since BMWCCA sends them all to you when they sent you your racing license - all you have to do is put them on the car...

When I've gone looking for Spec Series rules, I haven't found a single one yet that doesn't have some sort of required decal set. NASA Showroom Stock Miata was the lightest of the bunch so far, in that they only require the Toyo and Mazda logos. Generally, each series requires any mandatory decals listed in the car clubs CCR's (BMWCCA, NASA, SCCA, etc.) and some additional ones for the Spec Series. Now, how that's going to be enforced at a regional vs. national event will, I'm sure, be variable...

That said, there's a not so fine line between "We're here to simulate a real world series as best we can in an Xbox game", and "gently caress that, we're simulating a real world series in a loving XBOX GAME!"

Err on the side of having fun. Each week, I'm going to list what the real world series requires, just to set a bar. Like the allowable mods, that bar will be set by whatever's in the actual rulebook for that series. Unlike the allowable mods, I'll leave it up to you guys to go for capturing the spirit of those rules (i.e. not just slapping a black number on a dark blue car and calling it a day), while still keeping your own sense of fun and individuality. You're not going to get DQed if you've gone so far as to put numbers on your car.
The graphics 'rules' are ultimately there as a guide to roughly what your car would look like if you'd built it out for real - i.e. Spec E36 should have ~7 stickers on each side, while Showroom Stock Spec Miata only required 2.

FWIW, my personal favorite sponsors (and I've been using them on and off since NASCAR Racing 2003 Season was The Big Game) are Slumberil, Binford Tools, Big Kahuna Burger and Duff Beer.

I am considering adding a weekly points bonus for 'best' and 'gooniest' cars, so that the guys (who, like me, aren't goddamn Logue :argh: ) have a way to score some series points that don't involve "loving drive better, doosh!"

Thoughts?

PLATINUM

8 and me also go way back. :(

I'm gonna feel so dirty using a different number. If I lose tragically I'm blaming the weight distribution of the paint in the number 4.
