WeaselWeaz posted:You did the wrong thing and lost unlimited data. If it's been less than 14 days you may be able to pick up a smartphone and get unlimited data re-added, but that's applying the same logic they use for renewals. VZW doesn't make you get an unlimited 4G plan, the 4G data use counts towards any data cap you have. The data plants are at http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/explore/?page=data And yes, the minimum plan is 5gb for $30 but if you renew through the holiday season they'll double your data and you'll get 10gb. I know this is a couple pages behind, but whenever I activated my friend's RAZR for him, Verizon made him "upgrade" to the 4g plan. He lost unlimited data, too. I don't think my actual unlimited plan would've transferred over. I don't see where you say 5gb is $30. The only thing I see is $30 for 2gb and it doesn't say anything about double data.

This always seems to happen after they roll out a new market. A few places went live on the 5th so I guess it was that time again. I don't even have 3G anymore. No more SIM warning after reboot, but nothing in the way of data either. bull3964 fucked around with this message at 00:16 on Dec 8, 2011 |

My Bionic finally got 3G back about an hour ago. I have to have it in CDMA mode only; setting it to CDMA/LTE kicks me to 1x and leaves me there until I switch back to just CDMA.

Now my only fear is the double data cap promo will end before the Galaxy Nexus comes out. If an end date ever appears with the GN nowhere in sight, I'm just gonna get a white Razr or Droid 4 instead. My dick uses more than 2gb of data a month and I don't care how great ICS is if it means I'm gonna be stuck with such a measly allotment. Yep, Verizon has definitely confirmed switching to 4G shouldn't cause the loss of unlimited, but Verizon employees have said in on these forums that you only have 14 days to get them to correct it if someone drops it by mistake. I would hope even that is not set in stone due to how ridiculous 2 GB/month is. Today of all days might be a good time to call too due to the network problems, maybe they'd be a little more willing to make people happy. "So you're telling me your improperly trained employees tricked me into losing my unlimited data plan, and I haven't even been given the opportunity to burn through my entire monthly quota in under 15 minutes today because the network has been down all day!"

Backstory, you don't necessarily have to read this: I tried out an iPhone 4S and decided I didn't like it. I went back to the store and had them put my Thunderbolt back on, but the guy there screwed up up the activation and the SIM was still unactivated when I left (he told me "just wait a while" but nothing happened after an hour). I went online and noticed the iPhone was still on there, so I went through the activation process online with the number off the SIM they gave me. The relevant part is that when I got the IMEI entered, it said the data plan wasn't compatible with the device. and gave me a list of choice for capped plans. I about lost my poo poo until I saw that the unlimited plan was still there, just kind of harder to pick out. I might have missed it if I wasn't looking hard, and it was a little sketchy that it said the plan I had wasn't compatible with the device I was activating. So I would call them and or go to a store if it's within 14 days and see if they will put it back. also, 4G seems back up and running here in St Louis now. Let's see if it sticks.

I don't care if 4G doesn't work right now, I'm guessing it's going to work later. You know what I'd rather have right now than 4G? A phone that responds to my inputs within five seconds, I don't have one of those right now and I'd really like one, even if it temporarily doesn't have 4G.

Okay, wow. I don't know where my head is/was at. I activated the Razr online and it said the plan wasn't compatible, so I switched to the $30 unlimited plan which is apparently still actually unlimited. I was under the assumption they just gave the 2gb plan "unlimited" in the name because the $50/5gb plan and onward also showed up. I was wondering why the $50 plan gave a cap but the $30 one didn't. Thanks for the clarification, everyone, although now I have no clue what the Verizon rep meant. I repeated what I thought was said (that there are separate 3g and 4g plans) and it was agreed upon. Beats me. With all of that being said, I think I should just get the Droid 4 when it's released and be done with it. My VX-9900's keyboard only half works and it's getting to the point where I have to restart the phone each time I want to send a text message or make a phone call.

Yep. I might even grab a RAZR and...gasp...consider keeping it. I currently have one (GSM imported on ATT) and like it, but it's not the end all be all Jesus phone® ...but only if I can add the unlimited data using the $30 unlimited hotspot trick... If that plan doesn't work, I'll return the whole deal and return to my ATT unlimited data plan. No way I'm going on a tiered plan...and I only use about 4 gigs per month. For now. No telling what the future holds and I'm not comfortable with any limit. hotsauce fucked around with this message at 06:40 on Dec 8, 2011 |

Beer4TheBeerGod posted:Okay, so how does the $30 hotspot trick work? From what I understand, you can get Verizon, sign up for whatever tiered plan you want, then call (not online or in-store) and ask to be put on the unlimited tethering plan. This apparently forces you onto an unlimited data plan. Jury is still out as to whether this even will work since technically the unlimited hotspot plan is no longer. XDA has a thread about it. I don't know if you can drop the tethering plan after adding and keep unlimited data. I also don't know if Verizon will do some sort of audit in 6 months knocking you to tiered. Many questions remain, so it's not for the feint of heart. ATT is just pissing me off lately with lovely speeds during peak hours, so I may roll the dice. I'd venture to say the chances of everything working smoothly is around 20%. I may take my chances...

I got a chance to putz around with a demo GNex last night, and I'm glad that I decided to not go for the RAZR. World of difference in display quality, speed, everything. Also, the built-in panorama mode on the ICS camera is pretty cool, I hadn't read anything about that before.
