looks like redban took down part-2 of last weekend's icehouse show, so i watched my downloaded copy. Don't know why it got banned, but there was a mega awkward moment when some porn girl's family visited, one of the guests got confronted about being a phony LA buddhist, and you can see the bong getting passed around

nevermind, it's on itunes now. Must have been the bong.

What's wrong with believing shrooms are responsible for influencing the origins of christmas? We can't even get poo poo that happened 20 years ago right, why are we assuming that Joe's talking out his rear end RE: shrooms and xmas? I felt like Brian was just trying to be contrarian for the sake of disagreeing without citing anything. It might've been someone that the establishment looks down on like McKenna but at least Joe was citing references. E: Saying "I dunno, I would think hippies made that up" isn't an argument.

repeating "scholars say" isn't citing sources, and it is about as good an argument as "something hippies say". And the origin of Santa Claus isn't really very controversial, as far as I know. The modern north american santa is based on the Dutch Sinterklaas, which is probably why Redban said that santa claus came from Germany or something. I don't mind Redban being contrarian in cases like this, especially when Rogan says dumb poo poo like "There is NO DOUBT" and "Scholars have PROVEN" and things that would imply that this is completely unshakable truths. Ari also quotes some of this, and while wikipedia isn't the end-all be all of human knowledge, I'd trust it more than abovetopsecret's version of christmas; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria#Christmas_decorations_and_Santa_Claus And here's one of these SCHOLARS telling you that the reindeer you know and love at christmas came from Norway, and were a part of an advertisement campaign in 1925 to sell reindeer meat. http://translate.google.com/transla...91.html&act=url Edit: To his credit, eventually Rogan admits that we can't know for sure, but that's after several minutes of there being absolutely no doubt of the mushroom/christmas connection, and basically calling Brian retarded for proposing an alternative. Lieutenant Centaur posted:what's the big deal? are you suddenly an immature manchild if you don't go with the traditional "beep beep" alarm vs. some fun sound that reminds you of a video game you played when you were a kid? There's no big deal, and the "immature manchild" is your words and not mine, although weekly visits to toys r us and a slew over other Brianisms (like this) could probably be strong indications of a severe case of immature manchild, if you choose to look at it that way. There's nothing WRONG with it, but it's just one of those things that add to the "Oh Brian" factor. Bohemian Nights fucked around with this message at 16:03 on Jan 13, 2012 |
