Hammer Floyd posted:The problem is that Lars is required for Metallica. He's an absolute oval office, but his cuntishness is the reason why they got so successful. His willingness to step on somebody else in order to get that little bit further ahead is probably why we know about Metallica more than we do any other Bay Area thrash band. I love Black, too - Don't Tread on Me is one of my favorite Metallica songs. I just think that when you're talking about 80s thrash, RtL, MoP and AJFA are albums that will always be listed near the top. Isn't MoP consistently in top-20 metal album lists to this day? And yeah, credit where credit's due for the cutthroat way that Lars handled the band. They wouldn't be the Metallica that we love (and hate) without him.

The drumming on Marrow of the Spirit sounds very different from all their previous albums (in a kinda bad way) and I guess you've just explained why. At first I was kind of put off by the drumming on Marrow, but it isn't bad. It's just different. Sometimes I would rather have more of the same old style, but oh well.

Black Sabbath just released the following:quote:With the news that Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, his bandmates would like everyone to send positive vibes to the guitarist at this time. Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan – the “IRON MAN” of Rock & Roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery. drat But, if Nergal can beat lymphoma, so can Tony Iommi!

Siege's Even's The Art of Navigating by the Stars and Paramount are both in my top 10 for the past decade, so definitely check them out.

22 Eargesplitten posted:I don't know that I would agree with you there. I like the new drumming, but it makes for a very different feel to the music. Haughm is not a good drummer, I don't think he would claim to be. The drumming on most of Agalloch's stuff is very basic, not at all fluid. It helps to give a sort of cold, dead, wintermusic feeling to what they do. Aesop's drumming is much more competent, but he plays very fluidly and organically. That makes the music feel more alive. If you all will forgive the use of imagery instead of actual musical terminology, the old stuff feels like a snow-covered stone, the new stuff feels like a tree in autumn. I would venture to say that they couldn't have pulled off the direction they took Marrow without Aesop, and his addition to the band has tightened up their live set considerably. While Haughm's drumming isn't bad, it doesn't ever compete with any other aspect of their music for the listener's attention like Aesop's work on the drumkit IMO, and hearing him hammer out songs from Pale Folklore and The Mantle is beyond loving awesome

It's much more melodic than their previous albums, but the formula works incredibly well. Also, it looks like fellow goon and owner of Metal Blast is going to get the chance to interview Mark "Barney" Greenway of Napalm Death on Saturday! Submitted for your approval: Virgin Steele - Perfect Mansions. So much to love about this video. Sword-torches, a castle, some very impressive stage moves, and a handful of cutting-edge video effects such as INVERT COLORS. I know if I have a high note to deliver after a guitar solo (6:20 in if you want to skip to the glory), I'm running my rear end down the side of a hill like I'm being chased by bees. I have to say this is the most unintentionally funny video I've seen in a long time. Can anyone identify what the hell he's holding in the living room parts around :53 seconds in? A metallic loofah sponge? A bronzed pufferfish? Dog toy?

Can't really get into the new Iced Earth. The new singer seems like he can do everything from sounding exactly like Barlow, Ripper, and 80s era Hetfield at will. Seriously, the guy can do everything. But the songs all come across as a showcase of him doing exactly this, and the riffing doesn't go beyond basic chugs, and then they throw in slower acoustic stuff that never goes anywhere. I want another Something Wicked This Way Comes. Bad.

Funny story from last night at work. Some of the guys were on youtube looking up some manson and rob zombie music videos. "These dudes are evil as hell" on of them said. "Yeah, dude check out this band, GWAR. loving crazy." Then the other guy turned to me and was like "Hey man you listen to heavy metal, what's one of the sickest bands you know?"
