One of my good friends over at LaptopReview.com is hiring right now. Going to just quote the hiring page:

quote:

Columnist Contributor

We are seeking writers to assist with the contribution of daily articles to LaptopReviews.com. As a columnist, you will be asked to publish short 3 – 4 paragraph articles about industry news and releases. Such articles may only take 15 – 20 minutes to write. You will also have the opportunity to produce longer investigative or comparison type articles based on your own idea generation or that of the site Editor. Compensation for work varies based upon article length and time commitment necessary. Payment is on a per article basis, this is not a permanent job position but rather a part time freelance position.

Hardware Reviewer

Laptop hardware reviewers must be very well versed in technology related to laptops and computer hardware, a demonstration of previous online writing experience is also necessary. Past writing examples can be long form posts on blogs or Internet forums and does not necessarily mean you need to have a journalism background or have worked for an online publication. Reviews are the mainstay of what we do, the site name says as much and our goal is to publish reviews from a true end user perspective and to come across in a personable tone. Being able to write a review that anyone can understand and avoiding techno-babble or talking down to people is important. Hardware reviewers will be compensated on a pre-arranged agreement of terms, this is not a permanent job position but rather part time freelance.

Review Your New Laptop!

That’s right, you can make money simply by reviewing that shiny new laptop you purchased. Consider it a way to help pay for the laptop, or justify purchasing one if you haven’t already. If you’re interested in reviewing your laptop and having it posted to LaptopReviews.com please get in touch with us.

Other Jobs

You do not need to be a laptop expert and computer hardware building genius to be a part of the editorial team. If you have a passion for writing, helping people and know enough about laptops to be helpful in guiding others to make a decision we’d love to hear from you. If you have any ideas for the site or things you’d like to do that we aren’t covering then by all means get in touch!

HOW TO APPLY

If you’re interested and believe that you fit the criteria for any of these positions, please send your resume along with a note explaining why you are interested, what your qualifications are for the role and how much of a commitment level you can provide (are you available any time, certain times etc.). You may also suggest what you would expect in terms of compensation levels. Please send all correspondence to jobs@laptopreviews.com.

There are still lots of Epic positions to fill!

Epic makes electronic medical record software, and is currently the highest rated integrated system in the market among our competitors.

There are jobs for anyone who has a bachelor's degree, provided that you can jump through the (numerous) hoops that epic throws at you.

Jobs to apply for if you have no or little programming experience:
Project manager/implementer.
Technical Services.
Quality assurance.
Writer

Jobs that require a good amount of programming experience:
Software development/R&D
EDI

PM/Implementer roles have the most positions open, but also probably has the largest amount of applicants. This is the role that does the most travel (at least 50% and more often than not MUCH more), as well as the highest burnout rate.

Technical Services is the way to go if you can demonstrate that you can learn how to program competently enough to solve problems and think up fixes. If you want to get to this role, you should have taken at least one programming class or show that you program by yourself on the side. Don't BS this because they will know when you take one of their programming tests if you bullshitted.

I'm not too sure about QA, I do know that they barely travel.

I honestly would not go for the Writer position. There are lots of people who want to get the writer job because their degree was english or they had to do a lot of writing or etc., but they don't hire too many writers, from what I've seen they usually hire 1 every other month or so.

Programmers and EDI are probably have the hardest requirements.

Epic is really hurting for people, and will probably hire upwards of 3000 people in the next couple of years. However, they would rather not hire anyone at all rather than hire anyone who they see as incompetent. I believe they received about 120,000 last year alone and hired about 0.5%. That being said, you don't need to have stellar qualifications to work here. I had an okay gpa and no intership experience, but I killed on the tests that epic gives out, so I got hired. And it wasn't as if I went to a top schools or anything, I went to a small private college that no one had ever heard of.

It really depends on the role, but the workload usually averages about 46hr a week for most people. They really will work you hard right from the beginning. The training is intense and it doesn't really get any easier from there. Its not likes its a constant struggle, but you won't be able to coast through at any point working here.

But I love working here! The people are smart and fun to be around (usually) and if you got the traditional goon snark, there are plenty of people to mock. I will say that this is a very goony company, people wearing "witty" shirts and dragonball z shirts unironically, and there are lots of other fun stuff to go around. The benefits are also great, while the 401k matching is average, the health benefit is like that of a Saudi prince. The cafeteria at epic is probably the best restaurant in verona and also one of the best in madison. They hire gourmet chefs from all over to cook awesome food everyday.

If you want, you can apply yourself at this link: http://careers.epic.com/apply.us.php or you can email me at Judajudo AT Gmail DOT com. If you get referred by a current employee, your chances of getting hired goes up significantly.

Edit: forgot to add. Epic with automatically consider you for other positions if you mention so in the phone interview or the applications, so don't apply for every job you're interested in. For example I applied and interviews for the pm role but I was hired as a ts.

WHAT THAT SMELL LIKE?!

Job Opening

Various Positions at Epic: http://careers.epic.com/

Epic, in short, is a healthcare software company. To elaborate, they're involved in producing the variety of applications that make up every part of a provider's patient care system, from scheduling to general and specialist care to billing. They have been enormously successful in the past few years for two distinct reasons: (1) the rapidly changing healthcare policy environment in the US (specifically government incentives to encourage providers to move away from a paper records system) and (2) the status of Epic as best-of-class integrated healthcare software (i.e. the systems are all-inclusive and work together seamlessly).

About the company: They're a privately held organization that has grown at a phenomenal rate year to year, has no debt on the books, and can't build buildings fast enough to house the employees they're hiring. Their campus is designed by entities that have worked to create the Microsoft and Disney headquarters. As mentioned above, they are a spare-no-expense organization that goes so far as to poach chefs from restaurants for their cafeteria. They're located in Verona, WI (just outside of Madison), which is a big little city and a fun social hub.

About the jobs: Currently, they're hiring for all positions across the board, although most of their recruiting is focused on Project Managers/Implementation Consultants, Software Developers, and Technical Services. That being said, you're welcome to apply for any position - they'll consider you for all open positions and will make suggestions for alternate considerations during the interviews. Let me stress that you aren't locking yourself out of anything by submitting applications or declaring specific preferences.

I was given a referral through this thread and am now gainfully employed at Epic, in a relatively obscure department. I'd love to pay it forward. If you're interested in any of the positions listed above (either through earlier posts or the careers website), shoot me an email at communbrkdown at gmail dot com. I'm allowed to pander for the referral bonus too! Also, one word of advice for anyone going through the application process: Call it Epic. Informality is a big part of Epic's culture, so don't make the common faux pas of slinging "Epic Systems" about.

Clearly, I enjoy my position. I hope it doesn't need to be said, but there you go.

Edit: Additionally, feel free to contact me if you'd like to hear about my personal experiences with the application process or impressions of the company / area thus far. Happy to share.

Location - Fort Wayne, IN / Indianapolis, IN / anywhere around those areas

Education - BS from Purdue University in Actuarial Science and Statistics, Minors in Economics and Management. Have my A.S.A.

We are responsible for a software suite of products (one core piece of software that another dozen tie into), and barring a miracle you'll have no experience with any of them. The available training will give you only the basics, so you must be motivated and a fast learner.

I'm still waiting on the req to wind its way through the bureaucracy, so the salary range isn't available yet, but it will be competitive. If you have any questions or want to submit a resume, you can PM me or email at torvak01 @ yahoo . com.

Actually, I know two people that study birds in their Ph.D programs and should have the need for summer projects or at least know people who do. I've asked them to ask around.

Awesome, that would be great. Also, if your friends are looking for summer help let me know what kind of work and I might be able to recommend some people as well :)

Reviewed.com is looking to hire 3 new employees ASAP! :toot:
We'll also be hiring Staff Writers throughout the year, so even if you can't start immediately, sending in your info now will be good for when we hire in Q2-4. All jobs are located at Davis Square in Somerville, MA.

For more info on the company and whatnot, check out my updated listing.

Staff Writer
As staff writer, you'll be in charge of a review from start to finish: you photograph the product, edit those photos, test the product, and write the review. This process takes anywhere from three days to two weeks, depending on the product category. For this job we want someone who's smart and adaptable: even though you'll be mainly staffed on one site, you'll likely help out on others as well. There's also some light travel: once per year we go to CES and bring most of the office to Vegas, for Photokina we fly the imaging guys to Germany, and we also hit up various trade shows around the country.

Launch Team Member
As a Launch Team Member, you'll help me research a category, figure out what standards apply, develop a testing methodology and scoring system, create a review template, then write a handful of reviews by a hard launch deadline. Towards the launch date, hours sometimes leak out of the normal 9:00-5:30. It's sometimes a hard job, but you'll always be working on something new. Also, you get to work with me, which is objectively awesome.

Software Developer
We need a Ruby devloper. I don't really know much about this position, but I get super cash money if I refer a good software dev, so I figured I'd drop that in here too. We have a custom CMS and we constantly update the design on our sites. If you send me a PM I can forward your question on to someone who can give you good answers.

Contact
If you're interested in a job, have any questions, or just want to trade contact info, send me a PM, email, or IM (my contact info is at the top of my profile).

Job seeker

My experience: 1 year debt collection/general office administration, which means loving everything, but past that nothing else.

Qualifications are A-Levels in Financial Studies, Business Studies and Maths, and past that the usual GCSEs. I'm also on a course for a Sage Line 50 certificate.

What I'm looking for: Anything office based really.
Where I live: Liverpool, UK
Where I'm looking: Somewhat near, I can't drive so can't really get anywhere out of the way.
When I can start: Right away.
Requirements: Job security, maybe slightly flexible times.
Can be reached via: ljsheppard@live.co.uk

Teaching Moments
If you know Java and/or JavaScript, want or have a US security clearance, and want to be in the NOVA\DC\MD area, drop me a PM or send an email to archangel_war at hotmail.

Most of the work is in web app backend and client GUIs, cloud analytics, data analysis tools, graph analytics, etc. The company has a lot of good people and the culture is pretty good for a government contractor.

20+ articles to attach to a writing application? That's pretty loving brutal! I feel guilty when I attach so much as 5 to a writing job cover letter + resume.
