21 Jump Street actually looks alright. I didn't mean to imply that I thought it would be terrible, just not half as good as Hot Fuzz. And the poster is still awful, regardless of whether or not the movie is good. It's being made by the Clone High team, though? That makes me all kinds of excited. That should be on the poster somewhere. "From The Creators Of 'Clone High' Comes 21 Jump Street".

The first trailer I saw for this actually looked pretty interesting up until the end. Getting super powers and loving with people in several different ways is totally cool, but making a lovely driver drive off the road simply will not fly! Then the guy's friends all think he's evil and should be stopped or something?

They were all being dicks with their powers. He wasn't the only one.

I'll probably still see it, but on a Saturday/Sunday morning when I only have to pay $5 for it.

Ehh, it sorta makes sense. They were all being dicks, but I don't remember them actually doing any real damage or hurting anyone. Making someone drive off the road is a bit more serious than scaring little girls or moving a car to a different parking space.

Yes, scaring a girl in a toy store is the same as causing a potentially fatal auto accident! I can't see any difference between those things at all.

I know, I know. They aren't the same.

Still, I think an entire movie of a group of guys with super powers loving with everyone they can find in a progressively more destructive fashion would be much more interesting than one of the guys being worse than the others and getting outed, and then the shift of the movie turning to stopping the one evil guy.

That just seems way too predictable to me.

Uhh...that car flipped the gently caress over in a pond. The driver is probably dead. That's why they freak out. Killing a dude is a lot different than lifting up a skirt or scaring a child with a teddy-bear

It's interesting because it's all harmless fun until one gets consumed by greed and etc etc, it's at the very least going to be entertaining. I think you're putting way too little thought into it. It's a film about superpowers, nobody would want to watch Jackass with Superman for 90 minutes.

I previewed Chronicle today at work and I think you'll be suprised at how it unfolds, the trailer is a little deceptive.

When he forces the truck off the road it doesn't actually kill the driver and although the other two are pissed off at him it doesn't make him 'evil' straight away and they go back to being friends and screwing around pretty quick. It's more used to show how strong he is. His turn to 'evil' doesn't happen properly until later and it happens for completly unrelated reasons

Pretty fun film really, nothing special but really not terrible and the last 20 or so minutes which is a huge fight through the city between two of the characters shown through various cameras around the city is pretty cool.

The main problem with that poster is that it doesn't really fit the film or the character that well.

That is a striking drat design that is not like any other war movie poster I've seen, and probably unlike an other movie poster in general that I've seen. It's kind of a variation on the single big eye cliché, I suppose, and takes what makes that such an effective image the first hundred times one sees it and makes it interesting again with the unique composition. The tagline ties in perfectly with the imagery... and hell, even with the huge named cast list, which has a perfect backdrop thanks to the helmet taking up a good chunk of the foreground. This is a poster that makes me want to move the film to the top of my Netflix queue, as I have never seen it. The visual alone whets my desire to see what the movie itself has to offer visually, as it looks like it could be a still right out of it.
I have nothing more to tell you except that you need to set aside 3 hours real soon to watch one of the most beautiful films that exists

Even that doesn't really make sense though, because everyone knows super villains are a thing. If the movie was about a guy with no powers having to fight a super villain, then the "Not all heroes are super" thing would make sense. There is no way to make a turn of phrase with those words that fits this movie though. "Some people with super powers are heroes and some are not!" is pretty much the closest you can get, but it's still super dumb and obvious.

I had to look it up because of Roy Kinnear's name, but apparently, it's movie within a movie (directed by loving Martin "Edge of Darkness" Campbell, :psyduck:) about a sleazy porno-film producer hiring a writer, director, and a producer to make a film about the Ballad of Eskimo Nell, a dirty poem. What happens is the porno-film mogul leaves with the money, forcing the three to produce four adaptations - "a gay Western, a hardcore porno, a family version and a Kung Fu-style production" - in order to keep their backers happy.

But, man, that poster looks utterly stupid. The kid is . . . what exactly? Flipping the sky the bird? Man, that's really hardcore and poo poo! What a badass! Secondly, that is about the lamest "intense face" I've ever seen. Thirdly, that cloud doesn't even make sense with his hand! The cloud's thumb is on the wrong side, isn't it? Whose hand is the cloud mimicking if it's not mimicking his? How hard would that have been to get right? I loved that first trailer, but this one stupid-rear end poster has just squandered every bit of good will I had from the trailer.
