If you get fewer than 40 applications for this job I'll be shocked -- and no one is reading 400 articles before starting interviews, which is half of what you appear to be asking for.

Just some friendly advice here: I wouldn't try to defend a half-decade jaunt into gambling that is now untenable because of law enforcement as "very telling of competence". Instead it sounds telling of risky decision-making and ethical equivocation. That's not the impression you want to give potential employers, and it certainly doesn't merit more than a passing mention as a hobby on your CV (unless you're applying to work for an online poker website, or something). Also, don't diminish your CS experience as "mostly academic". Instead, try to embellish it more with project examples and the like, e.g. if you've ever created a website for yourself or a friend you can go ahead and call yourself a "Freelance Web Developer" and immediately sound more credible.

Both are working with me for a small non-profit in Austin, Tx. Was just given the go-ahead to start looking through what sort of connections I had. We're a pretty easygoing shop to work for, there aren't going to be any crunch times or things like that. No telecommute, no relocation services. If you're coming from a ways away, I can work with you on long-distance interviewing, but local is best. Programmer technologies: Ruby on Rails, Javascript, learn on the job experience: Entry to Senior level compensation: DOE (and capability) This is a contract-to-hire position. We don't require that you have RoR or much Javascript experience, but compensation will be more if you do. Language is language, though, and if you can program, then I can teach you Rails/Javascript. We run as an agile team, and have a significant icebox, so you should be ready to jump in and start learning right away. If you can do some HTML/CSS or image editing, that would be something in your favor, but keep in mind this is a programmer job, not web design. Project Manager I honestly don't know much about this position, to be honest, as it's a need that only recently has come up (after losing the one in the office to a downtown job). The project manager will be working with the network engineers and the software team to act as a go-between with the teams and the company's management. We're not looking for a documentation or deadline nazi, but instead a team member that can help make us more efficient and represent us in the overall company. If you know some stuff about networking, that would be a benefit, as you'll be mostly working with the Network Engineers, but that's not necessary. PM or email me at kayakyakr@gmail.com if you have any interest. kayakyakr fucked around with this message at 03:15 on Mar 16, 2012 |
