Right but the problem is you can have bad shoulders just like bad knees or backs, so it'd definitively fit in the first category. The other are just random occurrence injuries, unlikely to repeat themselves. That doesn't make Romo particularly injury prone, just like Jamaal Charles isn't injury prone since he's now had a torn knee. But if it happens again you can start to worry about that shoulder, same as you would JC's knee.

Again I get what you're saying with one off injuries, I'm just saying you put a dislocated shoulder in the wrong spot.

So if Romo's ribs get broken again, can we say that he has bad ribs?

It's really easy to break it in general. If you let it heal completely you shouldn't be any more likely to break it again, as far as I know.

Is that the way collarbones work? I know nothing about them other than that they're clavicles and ridiculously easily broken.

So it's a common thing but nothing you can plan for then?

No, generally a broken bone once healed doesn't make you any more likely to break it again.

Stuff like dislocations and separations etc can make you more sensitive to re-injury.

Unless, and this would never happen, it was set at some horrendous angle then healed out of position. THEN, maybe yeah it could break more easily.

This goes against everything I was told after breaking my nose for the second time. And yeah I was wrong about the collar bone being easy to break after it's broken. Its just flat out easy to break.

No idea why its easier to break your nose after you break it though. Next time I see my ENT I'll ask him what the hell

Nose is cartilage.

Or did you have a really nasty one where you broke the bone above that?

What Breaky said essentially. Breaking bones is relatively flukey and should be considered as such, but soft tissues often become more susceptible to injury with every occurrence. Good try though?

Yeah I went back and read up on it and it is typically the case that the bone itself breaks and the cartilage separates. :stonk:

Couldn't find anything on it changing the odds of re-injury though so no idea if that is actually a thing or just anecdotal.

Yay, medical chat!

The collarbone is one of the most easily broken bone, and numbers wise is the most frequently broken bone in the US. Some people tend to break it more often not because of strength or what have you, but more because of their own innate reaction to falling. Some people instinctively outstretch their arms to break their fall, some people will tuck them in. Usually the outstretched position results in clavicle fractures than the tuck position.

As for the nose, yes its partly cartilage. However, there are several bones in the nose, some of which are very thin and delicate. If its not healed properly or exactly as it should, it could be easier to break.

The clavicle is set pretty easily, as its a larger bone, the nose, not so much.

A poster who continuously has made really ridiculous points the entire season finally got to me when he said "Matt Moore had a shot to perform in Carolina in his second season. He proved he was a fluke. I dont care about his concussion excuse, you can still perform at a high level."

I pointed out and posted articles that showed just how serious his symptoms were, and how damaging it was.

I wrote maybe 3 paragraphs including a link to Sidney Crosby's symptoms and timeline showing just how serious they are. His immediate two replies?

I then showed him the articles discussing how the Browns are under investigation for clearing Colt McCoy to play, and how medical staffs are sometimes not the best judges of what is and is not actually medically cleared. I again wrote up way too much with way too many links and information. I even gave a personal experience with a close family friend who, now dead, played for the Dolphins in the early 90s and would constantly tell my dad that he doesn't remember a lot of games, because he was shoved back out there after suffering multiple concussions. His death caught national attention after he donated his brain to science. After he retired he became distant from us and from all intents and purposes, he was a changed man. He started to be standoffish and less fun loving. I never understood that maybe the concussions and brain damage could have such an effect on something so "personality" driven.

It's one of those racist codewords that is used to pay lip-service to someone's opinions, while summarily dismissing them as haughty or unrealistic for not following with how ____ people "should" think or act. Or so I've noticed it used, maybe newspapers really do describe people as intellectuals frequently for baffling reasons that don't fit in the second category I laid out above.

Obviously that's a huge part of it as well, and may actually be what really made the latent racism jump out at me. But I still think that "intellectual" is attached to people who aren't white much more often than people who are, outside of the context of academia or in reference to subjects directly referring to intellect. No one would refer to Barbara Walters, or any of the women on The View, Dr Phil or Maury or Sally Jesse Rapheal or whatever the gently caress, none of those people would be referred to as intellectuals. They're talk show hosts. And if you want to go further with Oprah being so huge, she's a media mogul, she's not an intellectual, though she's extremely smart, she doesn't sit around theorizing on physics or some poo poo. If Richard Branson had a problem with a TV show from some British comedian he wouldn't be a "British intellectual" or any of that, you'd address him as a crazy loving entrepreneur. Bill Cosby is an old comedian with 1960s style family values and social standards, his conservative opinions don't make him an intellectual just because they run contrary to the "pop black culture" on display. I'm not saying it should read "noted old black dude Bill Cosby didn't like Chapelle's Show!" but you can find much better ways to describe him than using a word that's got such patronizing connotations.

I dunno maybe this is just my associating intellectual more with the definition for "academic" than anything else, but that's how I've seen it used more often than not. Also hi ham you're a p good poster and I like what you had to say, but white rappers should be held to a different standard because most are awful.
