So I ended up getting a 99 miata with 120k miles. Dear god this is the most fun I've had behind the wheel. This thing completely changed my mind about owning only European cars. Any goons with a roll bar that can give me an idea of how much it costs to get one installed?

500 + shipping + DIY. It'll take you about a day to get it installed and you might need a friend for a few sections. It isn't particularly hard in any capacity, just time consuming.

Hey guys, the differential on my 03 sport is whining and has rice sized chunks of metal! Sourced a used 1994 Torsen, will that fit and work alright? The axle is my biggest question mark. Also how do i inspect a used differential to make sure its not going to cause problems? I dont think the PO ever changed the diff fluid it was pretty watery.

Goddamn it, I got scooped on a hardtop again today. I was going with cash in hand, and the buyer was just pulling away when I pulled up.

That sucks. They go so fast. I just bought a nice '03 OEM top and a rear shelf carpet on eBay. The top comes with the rain rail, but I'm thinking I should buy a new aftermarket one while I'm at it.

Make sure you have some tin snips and a good drill. When you cut your package tray, measure correctly - I ended up cutting off an extra 2" for no reason because I am a retard and cannot use measuring tape. Also watch your drilling on the passenger side, theres emissions poo poo down there. Feels good when its done though! First Time Caller fucked around with this message at 01:41 on Feb 26, 2012 |

Requires a fender roll if you've lowered the car. That pic above is with 20mm spacers. First Time Caller fucked around with this message at 08:41 on Feb 26, 2012 |

Ha! I figured out why I've been having a hard time getting a hard top. I did some asking around, and it turns out there's a local specialty Miata dealer 50-60 miles west, that has been buying every hardtop on the market under $1k to repaint and put on one of their cars. And he won't sell me one for a reasonable price...I gotta figure out how to get the drop on this guy.

My reverse lights failed the other day in my 91. Checked the bulb and fuse on my cheap multimeter and both seem good (show short when testing resistance, is that a dumb way to test the bulb?). Went and grabbed my extra transmission out of storage and tested and pulled its reverse switched, swapped it out and still no good. Old switch tests good as well. Is there a common spot where the wires could have broken, or am I doing something stupid? I did not test the switch while installed with a multimeter, should probably try that as well, it did test ok on the not installed trans though.

Speaking of tops, it looks like I will be getting a former project car in a couple of weeks. I'm trying to price up all the stuff I need to be get, and I'm wondering if it's possible down the road to fit a glass rear window in place of the plastic one?

I broke the patch in my top putting it down today, but my new one was waiting for me on the porch when I got home. Wishing I'd ordered a rain rail now.

Haha, that's some of the best Thai food you can get around here, from a place inside a gas station. I got my car cleaned up the other day, too. Hopefully no more road salt for the rest of the season.

Going to check out this bad boy in the next few days. http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/cto/2878122067.html Is it me or do the tires look abnormally large? Has the power package so according to the chart it has a Torsen which is nice

I'd probably replace them immediately anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter much. So what tires are the best bang for buck these days? Last time I had a Miata it was Azenis VVVV I'd stay with the stock wheels for awhile, especially if they're hollow spokes. Haha, 195/70's they were too big I was right Also they're "Goodride" tires, anyone ever heard of them, because I haven't. Probably Chinese tires with my luck They're brand new so I could hopefully get at close to 200 for the set on CL. Who has the best deals on Star Specs? Wheels are hollow spokes so they won't be going anywhere.

gently caress me. Well at least I can look forward to improving the ride and handling ten fold. And not worry about dying in a firey car crash. Aren't 195's pushing it on stock wheels though? For some reason I remember 185's being the cutoff. Applebees Appetizer fucked around with this message at 07:06 on Mar 6, 2012 |

I ran 195/60R14s all day long on my NB but I have no idea if those are wider wheels than NAs. Also, I would sooner put on a set of new-old-stock Firestone Wilderness A/Ts that have been baking in the AZ sun, and underinflate them, than I would any set of new Chinese-made tires. I've dealt with six Nankangs in particular and every single loving one of them popped belts extremely prematurely. Utter poo poo tires and downright scary.

You can fit 205s on the stock 14x6 wheel, but that's really pushing it. 195s fit like a glove and I had them on mine for 4 years with zero issues.

Cool. Vulcan Tire has 195/60/14 Azenis RT-165k's for $88 a piece. That's 20 bucks cheaper than Star Specs from Tirerack, and the reviews about them seem to be the same. Great grip, about the same wear, and decent in rain, just avoid standing water seems to be the consensus. That extra $$$ could pay for mounting, balancing and a good alignment.
