Not sure if you were wondering but the Ratatat song is Wildcat. Also, echoing sentiments that the new album is great. I'd say the two above are are my favorites as well along with The Outfield x Miike Snow.

Major Lazer - Pon de Floor. You'll have heard it in Ludachrist's Pon De Foley, which should be required mashup learning for all.

I'm working on a new mashup album, I know there is a bunch of overused songs that every other mashup artist has used and even I'm gulity of using some of them.

What are some songs you're sick and tired of hearing in mashups? I'm going to make one track that uses nothing but those tracks, a mega cliched track if you will, just to get it done and over with.

Off the top of my head

Jackson 5 - ABC
Soulja Boy - Crank Dat
Rick Ross - Hustling
Guns n Roses - Sweet Child O’ Mine
Kids - MGMT
Tag Team - Whoomp There It Is
most biggie acapellas
Smells Like Teen Spirit

Also what are some (non overused) songs you would like to hear mashed up?

Overused: Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams, Blur - Song 2, Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit, anything by Adele

Underused: Various EDM trance and house tracks that might be made better with good vocals. Here's a trance + house mashup (that admittedly had the vocals already in the original house track): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xs-qSkRrOKo

How did you JUST tell me about this thread tonight? Honestly.... Its been going on since 2008!?!? How did i miss this? Im so sorry.

Anyway, Id like to disagree just a little here.

Overused- Yes those named above but also, Deadmau5- Ghosts, New Order- Blue Monday, Avicii- Levels. I'll quote Adrian directly ""Barbra Streisand" by Duck Sauce" is the "Blue Monday" of the new decade. Hell, so is Avicii's "Levels," come to think of it."

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/737785/Blue%20Level%20Babs%20(AplusD%20Made%20Me%20Do%20It%20Mash).mp3

And underused..... sigh, the thing is, there are good ways to mashup with EDM stuff, but EVERYBODY just reuses the same stuff over and over again. If I hear another DeadMau5 mashup Im going to scream. And I like Avicii's stuff, but people seriously need to stop using Levels and bring in his other stuff. Two of my favorite mashups in the last few months have used Penguin. And thats ignoring the Leona Lewis track which is also awesome and I think should totally count as a mashup.

Im going to say the best underused stuff would be pop songs from the 60s. There was a great Monkees mashups tonight that made me realize how little we hear stuff from the Beatles.

Ill read the whole thread when Im not recovering from a night at Bootie SF. But for now, I'll say that if you like mashups and want to hear more amazing stuff, here are the guys to check out:

A plus D
DjsFromMars
Lobsterdust
TITUS JONES
Earworm
Dan Mei and Marc Johnce

Any band/artist that puts out stems of their work is awesome, I might try my hand at remixing some of this stuff later since I also produce hip-hop beats every once in awhile.

I don't take mashups seriously at all, the fun part is mashing up songs and making them sound silly.

Case in point, serious biggie songs go great with just about anything http://soundcloud.com/debitmusic/debit-imagine-party-bullshit

This has been one of my favorite albums for years to the point where I prefer it over The Black Album, and I love Jay-Z. There's just something about the Grey Album that just brings two of my favorite artists together in such a perfect way that I can't help but love everything about it. I've heard other mashups involving The Beatles and other artists I enjoy - one involving Wu Tang comes to mind - but they don't even come close to what The Grey Album is. It has is flaws, of course, but I find them easy to overlook.

One of my favorite things about it is that I can get people who don't care for Jay-Z, but love The Beatles to enjoy it, and vice versa, and I think that's where I find the true success of the comes into play.

Dear mash up artists,

Stop putting your stuff up on facebook, I don't use it and its really loving stupid. I can't even download it and I'm not making a account just to grab it. Also gently caress you for making a person "like" it to download it.
