There's a nugget of truth in Desperado Bones' case cover story that applies to that photo of mine. These are empty boxes you have to redeem beyond the cash register. Usually those trade boxes look like distinguishable pieces of ...work. At least they took the effort to switch fonts

It's the same reason the trailer was a "leaked" bootleg and the opening credits was a James Bond parody in which people were killed by USB cables - it's creating a feeling of technological secrecy, like you're in the shady back alleys of hackers and industrial spies. Yeah, this makes sense and now I feel kind of stupid.

I like the simplicity of it,and the way the text was placed. But then, even the American one wasn't so iconic or good: I'm sure getting the idea took weeks, making it? Less than 30 minutes.

It's time again to look at how posters can get increasingly worse as the movie gets closer to release. Let's look at "Apart" for today's example! All right. Good teaser. This isn't exactly the most original concept for a poster in the world but it's eye-catching and suggests that maybe something is amiss. Oooh, still good. Intriguing design, although, again, it has been done before. You've got my attention. What's the next one look like? Oh gently caress you! Wait... is this even for the same movie? Now let's watch the reverse of this phenomenon happen. Yikes! That is quite a clusterfuck of a poster you've got going there. Everything looks extremely wonky and out of place, especially that distorted skull acting as a reflection () in the table. Same idea, infinitely better execution.

I quite like the ones for Boy. And the taglines make perfect sense when seen in context. I also rather like these. The Utu poster is an example of the VHS cover being a vast improvement on the theatrical poster. They got rid of all the people down at the bottom and kept the big giant head. Also, you'll never guess which movie this is: http://i.imgur.com/2DFQA.jpg - somewhat It's the Japanese poster for Braindead or Dead Alive, depending on where you live. edogawa rando fucked around with this message at 02:10 on Mar 27, 2012 |

Speaking of horror... This is from the most recent batch of updates on IMP Awards. Not getting any points for originality here. These are both posters from horror movies released in 2010. And this is a still from "The Ring", a movie released ten loving years ago, and a remake of a movie made in 1998 (that was itself an adaptation of a novel) to boot. Creepy long-haired kids are starting to reach the same status as curly-mustached villains who tie women to railroad tracks. Also, the original title is apparently "Emergo", which immediately made me think of this:

The third one looks like it is aimed at the YA market (ie 15 year girls). It really looks like they are two different movies aimed at two different demographics.

One has to wonder which poster(s) is most appropriate for the movie... if it's some Twilight-esque YA flick, then I'd rather it not be marketed like Never Let Me Go because I probably don't want to see it. If that's the case then the last poster is actually getting more to where it should have been in the first place.
