Baron Von Ghoulosh posted:Actually, before they were called Type O Negative the guys got "Subzero" tattoos until they realized there was already a band called Subzero. So they have had to change their band name to Type O Negative to fit their matching tattoos. Considering the name only helped once they started making fun of goths I'd say it was a good mistake on their part

I have a Suffocation tattoo that I love dearly. "Pierced From Within" and "Effigy of the Forgotten" are staples of my death metal enjoyment. Danny Lilker has one of those "grind compass" tattoos that Brutal Truth basically coined, and I think that thing looks pretty awesome.

IRQ posted:I loving love Primordial but what on earth do they classify themselves as? That would be the question, probably something along the lines of dark celtic metal. I guess the "extreme" moniker might apply, but I loathe it as it's pretty non-descriptive. Here's Alan's take: quote:Primordial isn’t black metal. We come from the second wave of black metal, and our roots are in it, and there’s a certain “blackness” to the music. But I wouldn’t call us black metal, because I don’t think we subscribe to what I would consider the basic tenets of what black metal should be. Imrama is about the last thing Primordial have produced where you would sit and say there's a strong BM aesthetic as well. Every album since has been atypical of BM song structure and composition to the extent you'd struggle to place it beside BM albums, there's more doom in Primordial these days than black metal.

Speaking of albums that you should sit down, focus on, and listen all the way through, the new Anhedonist album, "Netherwards", is loving amazing. Really dreadful doom/death metal from Seattle. It came out last week and has quickly skyrocketed to my second favorite album of this year so far. You really need patience, though, as the album has four songs and is forty minutes long, so you are in for a slow and doomy ride. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvVFnj2MB3I

I'm loving the new Sigh, by far the most different and original thing I've heard in a while. Could I get some recommendations for another one of their albums that stands out? They've got a pretty big discography and I'm not too sure where to start. Also, catching Exhumed, Abysmal Dawn, and Cannibal Corpse at the beginning of May. This is my first metal show and I'm aware this question is pretty retarded...but how would I go about meeting Alex and George? Do the musicians just sorta hang out after the show and talk to fans?

The new one clearly harks back to those days, while it's not a carbon copy. I also like Gallows Gallery a whole lot, while it's a lot more straightforward album.

I appreciate the anti organized religious themes of most black metal as much as the next guy, but I'm more interested in hearing a band that isn't afraid to take a risk. I would rather hear an album that takes risks and makes some big mistakes than a flawlessly executed album that is basically a thematic rehash of material covered by other bands. I already have a shitload of albums like that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpPLOw0-874 I'm a sucker for Grand Belial's Key.
