Total amateur here. I've been practicing a bit over time and felt that this is one of the best live mixes I've made so far. I'd like to hear some feedback on what I could do to improve mixing and such, though I'm only using keyboard + mouse so it can be a bit tricky. I only ran into one total catastrophe with this one, which is pretty good for me. This is a real old school set, 30 minutes long. Blogs and hypemachine-driven DJs kind of tend to add a bunch of stupid words to things to stand out (CUT COPY X DJ HYPECAT UNOFFICIAL HYPHY BOOTLEG RE-FRAX) so it's possible you're seeing "bootleg" used in a dumb/incorrect context, but basically it means "unofficial remix." Like back when vinyl existed a bootleg 12" would just be a white label, completely unauthorized Michael Jackson house edit or something.

so if you're say, rihanna you pay a certain few remixers to remix your track for club play or whatever in order to get more sales from DJs or whatever. Those are official remixes because the remixers are making money from it and its all through official channels. but if you go to hypemachine and see a rihanna remix it most likely was not authorized by rihanna so it is a 'bootleg' remix. the history behind it though is that back in the day these were not just mp3s but you could actually buy vinyl records of illegal remixes because of how popular these were. bootlegs are still popular because the diversity of music genres and the general blandness of official remixes. people who do bootlegs could technically be sued or cease-and-desisted by the original artists but for the most part especially in pop music it's not really seen to be worth the trouble as most bootlegs are released for free and playing any rihanna remix in a club is still playing rihanna in a club and reminding the patrons that they should really go buy her single on itunes

Thanks for all the kind words though! It's stuff like this that really shows me that I should definitely fork out and upgrade my gear this summer cause I could eventually be going places with it.
