I saw Ghost, Mastadon and Opeth last night in Seattle. I had never heard Ghost before, and wow. They were awesome. I picked up their CD at the show and it's good. Really good. The lyrics are ridiculous, but the music and melody is amazing. Mastadon absolutely kicked rear end. They put on an excellent live show. Curl of the Burl was as amazing live as I imagined it would be. Opeth was just "OK" for me. I have seen them a few times before, and it was basically the same, but a lot more of the new album. But yeah check out Ghost. Was good yo.

I still haven't seen them live, the show I booked got cancelled Opeth have put heavier stuff in their setlist again, right? They were really disappointing when I saw them on their UK leg of the Heritage tour. Encoring with a song from the new album was a bit of a joke. I am desperate to see Mastodon again, I love that band a stupid amount, even if I was a little disappointed by The Hunter.

Eventually he just got pissed off and told them to leave his chair alone.

I liked the clever little touch of incorporating the harmonised riff from 'The Trooper' into the solo but otherwise I wasn't impressed at all by that. Steve Harris' bass playing on the original was great and adds lots of nice subtle touches to the song but this cover didn't have any of that and just felt really two dimensional.

The progression is so great, the song just explodes at the end. It's also way, way better than the Blood & Salt single they did.

Don't know how anyone feels about Sweden's Shining, but they're doing an EP of covers and here's a new track. http://patriciathomasmanagement.com/2012/05/02/niklas-kvarforths-shining-debuts-track-from-upcoming-covers-ep/ It's not the Shining I fell in love with, but I do really like it. Also, the Behemoth/Watain/Decibel tour was amazing and Nergal looks great! See it if you get a chance.

They mainly played Heritage and Ghost Reverie tunes. I didn't even stay for the encore if there was one. Was really lackluster in terms of stage show as well. It was like they were all "here is some music we play". No real energy. Made me sad. Which really blows. I saw them with Dream Theater a few years ago and they were absolutely loving amazing. But yeah, whether you like Mastadon or not, you should go see them. They are amazing live.

Opeth has been playing soft stuff for the first part and then a couple heavy tunes for the encore. When I saw them it was The Grand Conjuration and Deliverance. I know they played Demon of the Fall at at least one of the shows on this tour as well. Mike's growls sounded real good, too. Re: the new Gojira song, I've only listened to it twice but I'm not as excited about it as everyone else seems to be. It just feels like the energy isn't quite there, like Gojira on mild sedatives. I'm looking forward to hearing it in context with the rest of the album, but it didn't hit me like Vacuity did when it was released, or Backbone when I first heard the band shortly after From Mars to Sirius came out. I only talk about overhyped popular metal bands.

Saw them at Summer Slaughter a couple of years ago and they really sucked. Their vocalist got held up at the border, so they had a guy fill in who didn't know any of the lyrics so they only played a 15 minute set or so.

Vital Remains are pretty much a toss-up live, since they generally have at least one new member per year, often have different fill-ins for each tour, and the entire line-up, minus Tony Lazaro, has been completely turned over a few times. Lazaro is the only guy in the band who has been on a VR album. They were good when I saw them many years ago, but the lineup changes make it unpredictable.Hatman101 posted:This exact thing happened to me but replace Vital Remains with Obituary. I was almost mad at Krisiun for making Obit seem terrible. I've seen Krisiun a ton of times and they always have a ton of energy, they're sharp, and they get the crowd into it. They certainly put on a better show than Behemoth, Belphegor, Hate Eternal, and some others who followed them directly on different shows. The only band I can think of that played immediately following Krisiun that managed to top them was Immolation. Zodijackylite fucked around with this message at 00:25 on May 4, 2012 |

Killsion posted:This is nice and all but this belongs in the deathcore thread. Noted. Anyway, I ordered the Watain Opus Diaboli boxset which arrived today It's very nicely presented, the photobook is very nice quality, the artwork on the LP jackets is nice, the box is good quality, and the signed screen print(?) also looks fantastic. Despite this, I do have a few gripes. The DVD/CDs don't have slipcases, they are simply affixed to the bottom of the box by discs that go through the centre of the DVD. This meant that by the time I received the box, they had all come loose and were sliding round the bottom. Luckily, none of them were damaged, but I didn't think it was great. Also, the LP jackets are VERY flimsy. They constitute strong paper at best. My only other gripe would be the fact that the box was shipped wrapped in 1 layer of bubble wrap in what was essentially a bin bag. I would happily have paid extra for safer shipping. Overall though, I am very happy with the contents of the product and overall quality of it. I have not watched the DVD yet, but the live recordings are brilliant.

Any of your brothers going to the Decibel show in Charlotte NC tomorrow? I can't get any of my friends to go see Watain with me. Something about animal parts bugs them out. Actually, a friend that saw the tour last week told me that Behemoth asked them not to use any animal blood on this tour, just some body parts here and there. Wonder if that's true.

Watain was a huge dissapointment. I was expecting horrible smells and blood and animal corpses. What I saw was 4 balding men in black metal make-up playing basically diet Behemoth songs, slightly headbanging, in front of 2 (count em 2!) goat skulls on poles. Thrilling.

The Devil's Blood covering themselves in blood and candles on stage. Watain's pig heads, animal parts/blood and some of their fire effects (torches, candles, etc.) Everything I've read though has lead me to believe that it's pretty much up to the individual venue, not the artists. So, if your attending this tour at a relatively small venue, some or all of the usual stage trimmings may be missing. I don't expect this to detract from my overall experience THAT much.
