So, Animal Man Vol. 1 (New 52) just came out, TPB-only. Has DC ever done this? Gone straight to the paperback instead of having to wait an extra 5 months after the hardcover? And why the hell aren't they doing it for all their new books?

Has anyone picked up the Spirit World hardcover? From the looks of it, it's oversized and looks interesting but it's also a bit on the expensive side given its width.

I've been buying up the Ultimate Spidey OSHCs and they only go up to volume 11 (no Spinal Tap jokes please). Anyone know if they plan on publishing anything in that format past that? Like the Ultimate Comics Spider-Man stuff?

So I was actually dreading USM Vol.12 since Marvel's been loving around with the spines of their books the last year. So imagine my joy at seeing this when I unpacked the order. They matched the spine. Whomever made sure this matched is awesome considering that they've been transposing the colors on the Marvel logo on a few books.

It could've been a lot worse though. It's interesting that the label isn't even changed to Ultimate Comics Spider-Man or anything like that. I hope we get these hardcovers of the new series also.

Shameless posted:DEATH OF SPIDER-MAN OMNIBUS HC $75 Definitely getting this. Anyone know how Dr. Strange Season One is? I haven't heard anything about it at all but it has people I enjoy on though they're not necessarily my top picks for a Dr. Strange book. Incognito: The Classified Edition sounds like it's essentially the Incognito omnibus. And there's Criminal Deluxe Edition volume 2 as well. I noticed that Fraction's X-Men run is getting a "complete collection" treatment, bypassing an omnibus. Still it looks like a good deal for the amount of material in the book (especially compared to some of those other trades).

This'll make for nice omnibus sized bookends for my Ultimate Spidey books

I saw the X-Statix omnibus today at my shop. It's pretty ridiculous. I guess if you really wanted to read the whole story for whatever reason and had 125 dollars burning a hole in your pocket it would be a good buy.

Yeah, that's one of the better omnibuses Marvel has published recently. You've got incredible art, a great story, and everything from beginning to end in one book. It's one of those things the omnibus line was made for. I suspect they added The Brotherhood because it's the only X-Statix story that wouldn't be in the omnibus if they left it out even though it's pointless, awful, and completely unessential.

No, I haven't read I Kill Giants yet, but I'll be moving it up in my queue. Been busy reading the Hellboy Libraries, Habibi, and some Stephen King stuff. And yeah, I love those bookcases. I'd love to have another set, but the closest ones to what I have run $500+. I'll have to post newer pics once I've cleared out the massive stack of unread books some.

Next volume is up on Amazon. The Silver Age of DC Comics by Paul Levitz (Hardcover) CDN$ 64.99CDN$ 51.99 With super heroes nearly extinct at the start of the 1950s, DC Comics reignited the fire that would make them central to modern popular culture by infusing them with science fiction elements. To circumvent the limitations of the self-censoring Comics Code Authority, DC's writers and editors spun ever-more fantastic tales, bringing super heroes and Bob Hope alike into the realm of sci-fi. DC Comics: The Silver Age chronicles the transformation, with comics' first-ever "reboot" of Golden Age greats the Flash, Green Lantern, and Hawkman; as well as the increasingly wacky shenanigans of Batman, who was transformed into the reluctant spokesman for the camp sensibility of the ’60s with a hit TV series that immortalized the Dark Knight as a pop culture icon for generations to come. Plus a new exclusive interview with Deadman/Green Lantern/Batman artist Neal Adams! About the series: TASCHEN's series on DC Comics explores the origins of comics’ most enduring legends and the behind-the-scenes stories of the men who created them, era by era. Expanded from the Eisner Award–winning XL book, 75 Years of DC Comics, this new series hits the shelf at a reader friendly size with essays updated by author Paul Levitz and over 500 new images across five volumes. Thousands of covers and interiors, original illustrations, photographs, film stills, and collectibles have been reproduced using the latest technology to bring the story lines, the characters, and their creators to vibrant life, making this an invaluable reference for comics fans.

I think any hesitation regarding buying the X-Statix omnibus comes from how loving huge the thing is, and not in terms of quality. Everyone I've talked to has had binding problems with the similarly-large Simonson Thor omnibus.
