I've noticed all the current BMWs look a little off in 2D photos. But when you see them in person they look pretty great. I saw my first one of these last year and it looked way better. I feel the same about the new 3 and 5 - they make a lot of sense in person.

The more I look at it, the more I think it looks fantastic actually. Now that cars have all these complex surfaces you can't really appreciate the design in a 2D picture. You're missing a lot of the design elements.

edit: For example, the headlights on the 1 are more on the side of the car than the front. Hard to tell in a front shot, it gets distorted. You have no sense of depth.

You can option a Focus Titanium out to more than a base ST without much effort.

That quarter mile slots it in nicely between the 458 italia and the mercedes SLS AMG for strait line speed. It sounds like it's a lot easier to handle than the old car as well.

It's that 400 meter section of asphalt next to the Soylent Green factory.

I guess it's not a new car but I did finally test drive the 2012 optima sx yesterday. That's my backup car in case the 2013 Fusion isn't all it's cracked up to be, and I think I'd be pretty happy with it. Only things that bugged me were the parking brake hangs down too close to the dead pedal and the turn signal/wiper switches are too close to the paddle shifters. The salesman wanted so badly to compare the two but since the Fusion doesn't exist yet there's not much he could say.

They're not fantastic, awkward proportions kind of kill them. But compared to the abomination they replaced, they're rolling artwork. In retrospect, the SN95 was a really dark period for the Mustang. And the New Edge SN95s improved on that horribleness somewhat in exchange for god-awful styling, the worst styled Mustang ever built I'd say. Honestly, the 94-04 cars probably should have been badged as Mustang IIs...

The current car, there's really nothing wrong with it that can't be fixed by making it not so absolutely loving humongous.

You hit the nail right on the head, they were a breath of fresh air compared to what we had. The Fox bodies were "ugly" but it was a classic, sensible ugly. The SN95 was just horrible. To me they look like a Cavalier.

Absolutely. The 05+ cars were definitely a step in the right direction, but they just look so tame and innocent compared to the newer models. I never really considered Mustangs a major "presence" car since they're so ubiquitous, but seeing the newer, and especially higher performing models on the road really get my attention. I think Ford's overall design language has come into its own lately, and while Dodge or Chevy have done decently well in creating sufficiently muscle-y looking cars the new Mustang is the only stand-out masterpiece. It's a car that will still look great 20 years from now.

So I was talking about how Mazda is probably hosed and they need to find someone to own/partner with before the strong yen kills them, and I suggested that Chrysler/FIAT was the ideal partner.

Well this just loving happened.

quote:

Mazda Press Release: Mazda and Fiat announce co-operation program

(23-05-2012) -- Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda) and Fiat Group Automobiles S.p.A. (Fiat) have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development and manufacturing of a new roadster for the Mazda and Alfa Romeo marques based on Mazda's next-generation MX-5 rear-wheel-drive architecture.

The study calls for both Mazda and Fiat to develop two differentiated, distinctly styled, iconic and brand-specific light weight, roadsters featuring rear-wheel drive. The Mazda and Alfa Romeo variants will each be powered by specific proprietary engines unique to each brand.

The project assumption is that both vehicles will be manufactured at Mazda's Hiroshima, Japan, plant with production for Alfa Romeo envisaged starting in 2015.

"Establishing technology and product development alliances is one of Mazda's corporate objectives and this announcement with Fiat is an important first step in that direction. It is especially exciting to be collaborating with such a prestigious marque as Alfa Romeo on a new roadster based on the next-generation MX-5, which is such an iconic vehicle for Mazda and recognised as the best-selling roadster of all time." said Takashi Yamanouchi, Mazda's Representative Director and Chairman of the Board, President and CEO.

"This agreement clearly demonstrates our commitment to Alfa Romeo and the determination to grow it into a truly global brand. By partnering with Mazda, we will be co-operating with the recognised leader in compact rear-drive vehicle architectures in order to deliver an exciting and stylish roadster in the Alfa Romeo tradition. We are appreciative of this collaboration with Mazda and look forward to maintaining a fruitful and continuous relationship." said Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne.

The Final Agreement is expected to be signed in the second-half of 2012.

Mazda and Fiat have also agreed to discuss further opportunities for co-operation in Europe.

before you ask, yes I did inform the DMV of my condition and medication, and I passed the medical and psychological evaluation when I got my license. I've passed them every time I have gone to renew my license.

Renault Alpine A110-50. To be unveiled the day after tomorrow in Monaco. It's based on the RenaultSport Megane Trophy and is powered by the same mid-mounted 3.5 litre V6, which is good for 400 french horses and 420Nm.
The engine (as far as I can find, this could be idle speculation for all I know) is a Y4V derivative, which is essentially a re-badged Nissan VQ35DE. The transmission is the same 6-speed sequential unit that the Megane Trophy uses.

http://d.yimg.com/nl/autos/site/player.html#lang=fr-FR&vid=29371440 Very short teaser video, with cheesy music. However it does leave the impression that the picture is not a render but an actual photo of the car.

Either way it's porn on wheels in my opinion. Why can't all cars be beautiful like this?
