Assassin with bow and sword supremacy, holy poo poo. No RPG yet has made it so easy to switch on the fly between bows and swords. Also I can quickly switch my bow out for a shield when in close quarters. edit: also bows feel so drat good. I feel like Ashitaka in Princess Mononoke, one of the few movies that I feel conveys the sheer fury of arrows. Samurai Sanders fucked around with this message at 11:15 on May 25, 2012 |

It was a slow start with a lot of early deaths, but sticking with mage and moving on to sorcerer is paying dividends now. I really understand why that dev was quoted as saying it's the "strongest class." My staff can kill any pesky wolf/harpy/goblin with one burst of its regular magic shot attack, with lock on and homing capabilities. High Maelstrom will obliterate anything and everything, High Comestion is highly effective in most situations, and High Gicel makes short work of the drake. The most dangerous thing to me lately are archers which still don't pose too much of a threat except for in one particular quest that had dozens of them around. On one hand I don't like how the enemy spawns are static, but at least now if I know there's going to be a pack of wolves ahead then I can cast necromancy and use the charged orb barrier move to kill everything as I run straight through. Aside from that, I've just switched my pawn over to mage so that I can have a pure support person in my troop if anybody wants him. The long-term plan is to have High Anodyne, High Halidom, Fire Affinity, Spellscreen, and two debuffs for crowd control. Prior to this he's spent a lot of time as a strider so he's got enough strength to act as a pack mule as well. Currently level 42 or so, GT is Rabbit Holed in case anybody wants him for free.

So holy jeez it's hard to choose what vocation you want to be. I'm playing Strider and I love Ensnare, but no one else gets that ability. I wanted to be Magick Archer when I first started out but people say the damage is kind of meh so now I don't know! Does Magick Archer damage scale off your magic attack or the normal stat for your bows damage (strength?)?

I really, really wish there were multiple save slots. Lemme test drive the other classes without committing to them on my main, Capcom, c'mon. Wonder if that's something that could even be patched in. Doesn't seem like it. Just feels like if I go and switch vocations for awhile, I'm stat-gimping my character. Both the one I was and the one I want to be.

The magick bows are a seperate weapon type and are based purely off of your magick. Not only do they not have a strength stat, your secondary strength stat becomes --- when one is equipped. Magick Archer starts off really weak, but it specializes in accuracy (since all of its bow attacks home in on its target) and access to elements. Getting the Acuity augment (+20% magick) from Sorcerer 9 brings the damage for Magick Archers up significantly. I'll also say that I think Magick Archers are the worst class in the game, based on their skill selection and stat growth (heavily slanted towards defense and magic defense with mediocre HP). But, they're still definitely more than viable, and I also think they are the most fun to play by far. Especially when you set yourself on fire and jump on a boss monster's back and just sort of crawl around it to kill it. I don't think I could play anything else. The skills I like the most for Magick Archer are Sunblast/Sunflare, Backfire/Immolation, and Scension/Grand Scension with daggers. For bow, I typically use Threefold/Sixfold Bolt, Ricochet Seeker/Hunter, and Explosive Bolt/Rivet. Seeker/Hunter Bolt gets switched in every now and then, but I've been using a support pawn with holy affinity so that's generally covered.

I know it's not an ideal solution, especially if you care about trophies/achievements, but you can create a second profile to play. I'm pretty sure the Xbox version get's access to all the online features with a free silver account, so it should be fine on either system. I agree there should be multiple files.

It's ridiculous how much this game has ensnared me- I've put an ungodly amount of hours way too quickly in this game. Holy poo poo it is so good. This is easily, EASILY GOTY for me. Now that they have the general system developed I absolutely cannot wait to see what they do with the setting because if they end up creating a true full scale RPG and not like a Fable-style RPG (in regards to roleplaying/reactivity of the story/the size of the setting) then Capcom will pretty much forever hold the gold standard for RPGs. I've switched between Strider, Ranger, Magic Archer, Fighter and Warrior and so far every single class has been insanely different in how they play. The way you have to approach fights changes so drastically depending on so many factors, and combat feels so goddamn good.. It makes every single other "open action RPG" seem like jokes- and the straight action games even moreso. Despite being well into my New Game+ I've still missed out a bunch of things apparently, including a bunch of optional areas/dungeons -and- bosses(?). I'm really wondering how sidestories/quests work since there appears to be some semblence of choice. how (ending spoilers)the "most valuable person" is decided for it alongside what happens if you pick the rear end in a top hat options. Even the simple design of having a constant autosave and one save slot makes decisions seem so much more important/gives actions a lot of weight. Capcom is weird as gently caress. They produce garbage like SFXT and then throw out this near-masterpiece with nearly no advertising. I really, REALLY hope this game becomes a success because it's just so obscenely good in all the right areas. edit: For Magic Archers, try using the Vortex Arrow combined with the Shadow Hold dagger spell. The vortex is incredibly strong and will drag literally every type of enemy other than giants into it. You don't have to fire it at an enemy either, and can just pin it onto a spot on the ground where you've put down the spell. It lets your party go bananas on groups of rough enemies and makes up for the lackluster damage of the class (outside of specific exceptions, where the magic archer does ridiculous monster damage) Like every class there's vastly different ways to play them but that's what I used for my endgame where I had to rely heavily on my party to dish out all the damage. I am seriously thinking about going out and buying this game RIGHT NOW. I loved shadow of the colossus, I love Western RPGs, I love action-rpgs like Diablo. The only thing that worries me is that I fear having only one save-slot and excessive freedom in changing class/abilities would get me to gimp my character pretty badly if that is at all possible, I'm the completionist type who wants to try it all in one playthrough. Anyways, since I know I'm picking this up anyways, is a melee fighter good and fun or it gets terribly outclassed later on and a Strider would be better ? I want to be beefy, I suck at being a glass cannon. I'd get a Mage main Pawn to wreck poo poo and buff from afar, then recruit whatever pawns suit my needs.

Part of the problem is probably that you're switching to a magic class after 25 levels of classes that don't raise magic.

Picked up some fish and some meat from some beasts and after a day or so it is now rotten. Also getting wet not only drains your stamina faster, as you are weighed down by wet clothes, but mages cannot cast fire magic when wet, not to mention your lantern will go out if you're in water. He didn't even mention which class he was pre-Assassin but since he was Sword and Boarding, I'd imagine it was Fighter.

Really, really enjoying the game so far. My only issue with it is that my pawn looked really good in the character creator but once I got into the game and she started expressing herself through face muscle manipulation, she become some hideous bogtroll looking creature. I've become emotionally attached to my character and her flaws are charming to me now so I probably won't reroll. Also, is there any reason to make a new character for the sole purpose of trying a new vocation? Are there no restrictions or limitations at all when switching to another?
