I'm only using 2 augments on my magic archer, both extend stamina, from magic archer and strider. My main pawn has hardly any as well since she's only ever been a mage and they haven't seemed that good. Are there good sorceror ones I should swap to for a while? I've unlocked assassin but those augments didn't seem great outside of playing an assassin. Should I unlock ranger and get some from there?

She has a really nice healing spell set now though I have been running with fighter/sorceror/mage/me for a while.

When I'm running around Gran Soren and in the countryside I keep on seeing pawns in really awesome looking equipment, and then finding out that they're like 10 levels under me. Am I missing some easy way to find good stuff? All of my weapons are fine, or better than what most other people have, but my armor and stuff apparently sucks.

So, I'm currently running around as a Strider and I could use some help in what to focus on since I feel awfully weak. I just killed the Hydra and it feels like I'm just doing slivers of damage against bandits unless I'm buffed with an elemental weapon spell.

I did get the tangle skill which pretty much paid for itself in hilarity, since it allowed me to snare bandits into pretty little parcels that I threw over a cliff repeatedly.

You're just weak as poo poo at the beginning of the game as a strider. Getting headshots, even against stuff like wolves and goblins is important. You should always have appropriate elemental buffs while fighting.

That said striders (or any bow/dagger class really) are in my opinion the best classes for fighting giant monsters.

You can find unique equipment in treasure chests, especially at the bandit dens, even more especially at the female bandit den. Treasure chests respawn after 2-5 days, so you can keep going back for more. Then there are quests that reward you with equipment, like Mercedes's escort quest.

Doing the main story quests will improve shop inventories, too.

Just beat my first Drake and drat was that an intense fight. Started fighting it around sunset and it went down right as the sun started rising. As if fighting it wasn't bad enough, there was a constant supply of Goblins coming around to pester me and my pawns but it felt so good to finally take that jerk down after all the times I've been chased by it. Also it was awesome watching my Fighter Pawn take his sword to it's heart and removing a third of it's life on multiple occasions :black101:.

I heard something about a quest later that involves me saving her and going to the blighted manse?

Have you said at a checkpoint again, yet? If not you should be able to just reload your last checkpoint if you saved at the inn before you started the quest. The first time I did the quest she gave me an empty flask. So I reloaded to when I slept at the inn right before I started the quest and got her to give me the idol. You have to let her lose the race to get the Idol.

I had a funny feeling in my gut.
I'm about to start but fretting a bit over my main pawn. I was going to make a mage based on my girlfriend so we could bro it up around the countyside killing griffins but apparently there is a huge surplus of little redheaded mages out there, and I'd like my main pawn to stand out and get hired occasionally. Is there a big advantage to constructing your own mage over just hiring one?

Other than that I'm tempted to make a fighter, either an old woman a bit like this

So does the Magick Archer's Three/Sixfold Shot skill do ice damage? Because it never seems to apply fire when I'm buffed and it totally wrecks saurians even when I am not buffed (I heard they were weak to ice). Also I cannot wait to set myself on fire.

For the Magick Archer, would it be useful to get the increased knockdown chance augment from the Sorcerer vocation?

Yep, all of their skills have a built in element. I've had sixfold shot freeze a few enemies solid.

Leveling just increases your stats automatically, with the increases depending on your vocation. Increasing your vocation rank (ranges from 1 to 9) gives you access to new abilities to purchase.

Not after leveling up specifically, other than getting one level higher pawns if you want (this part reminds me so much of megaten it's scary, the only thing that would be better is if you could combine pawns to form a new pawn). The points to upgrade your people come steadily, and vocation level determines what skills you can buy, not character level.

The Witch in witchwood seems to be a direct parallel to Schierke's teacher in Berserk. Her house looks almost identical and while I didn't notice at first she even has golem's set up around her house.

(bi)cyclic mutation

How does the game determine weapon damage?

If my pawn uses a cutlass, she's got, in the equip menu, a strength value of 386 and a magick value of 118, but with Eden's Warden, an always-on-fire sword, she's got a strength of 337 and a magick value of 318. Does the weapon damage come from the addition of the values, just the strength value, or some combination based on enemy resistance? Does that magick value even matter to sword damage?

Yeah, an anime and manga that is rather famous for its INSANELY dark and gruesome world full of giant horrible things of every description that keep humans huddled in a few small areas (and the humans are pretty bad too). It's a good fit for this game, even though this game doesn't come even close in the dark and gruesome category. Just the fact that you can put on Griffith's armor in the game makes me shudder a little, with all the horrible poo poo in the manga regarding him. I'm only using his sword but still...

edit: here's Griffith's sword in action in the PS2 Berserk game, which is awesome by the way (Japanese only though)

The better augments tend to unlock at the later vocation ranks. Sorceror has some really great augments for magic classes. For instance, there's an augment that greatly increases magic attack, an augment that increases cast speed, an augment that helps reduce interruption during casting, and an augment that reduces stamina consumption from spell casting.

If you do swap her out, you can always hire a mage pawn for healing duties. Ranger has some interesting utility skills, like increasing your lantern's radius of illumination, but play around with it out of your own interest. I played around with it, thought it was kind of boring, but I know other people liked it.

This'd fit extremely well with the inclination system, also. It's perhaps a bit much to ask, but different variations on lines for discovering items on Acquisitive vs Guardian, say, would be incredibly fun.

Wish list for DD2:
  • More weapon variety! Some axes, pole weapons and fist weapons top my list. Basically I want Dark Souls' weapon variety.
  • More voice variety. I'd be happy with the six voice types but more diverse phrases.
  • Fewer stupid bullshit 'kill 45 rabbits' quests, more 'Parkour' leaping and jumping challenges. Imagine trying to do a platform puzzle while a Griffin divebombs you, or finding the best way up a cliff while being bombarded with Cyclops-lobbed boulders...
  • Slightly cheaper/more frequent fast travel waypoints. I understand that wandering the countryside is how you run into a lot of monsters, so give incentive to wander (say, a bounty hunt quest in an area,) instead of restricting travel to make the player slog around.
  • Weapon creation. Come on.
