Beat the game last night. That was an... interesting ending. A couple of my favorite moments:
As a fighter, the first ogre fight in the pawn guild. Had a rough first half of the battle and was getting worn down. Eventually, jumped on his back, he lost his footing and I actually rode his rear end down 10 or 15 stories where he died and I survived. Epic.

Another favorite was the journey to fight the gryphon at the blue tower or whatever. Grueling all the way, I lost all my companions on the way up the tower stairs ( I would realize later that there was a pawn stonet thing just outside the tower). I go through all the running away/up the tower from the gryphon shenanigans and finally reach the battle proper, expecting to get my rear end handed to me, when i see that ugly long-haired fella I got the spell tome for show up and utterly nuke the beast. It was a real "boy i'm glad I called that guy" moment.

And the entirety of the Dragon boss fight is just great and epic in general.

As a warrior, arc of deliverance made for a couple of very cinematic finishes for me. Charging it up just in the nick of time as a chimera barreled toward me and just barely landing the killing blow before he knocked me over.

In my experience, you are slow as a warrior. But the combat isn't slow necessarily... if that makes sense? You make wide sweeps with your blade so when you're outnumbered/surrounded (often) you're usually hitting multiple targets with each swing. Nimble enemies like wolves are a hassle, though.

A couple of warrior abilities are designed for precision though, and actually require you to stand completely still or move very slowly while they charge in exchange for big damage.

I have a hammer that has a 60 higher strength stat (I think it's around 15% of her total strength stat), and a sword with an ice enchantment that looks nicer. Will the damage lost by using the sword be significant, or will the ice enchantment make up for it?

They're the game's way of getting you to explore the map, and figure out what is scary and what isn't. Also, the game is sadistic, and is fine with you dying in the process.

Some of those early escort quests actually disappear well before you're high enough level for it to be easy. The black fortress one, for instance, is more or less tailor made to make sure you run afoul (or at least near to) both a drake and a cyclops. It also teaches you just how bastardly bandits can be.

EDIT: Also, it is totally backwards that I can destroy a Cyclops, yet Ogres have me running in terror. They're smaller, and cuter, and they make hilarious noises when they see me... and yet they're terrifying :ohdear:

I've had fun as a fighter so far, to the point that I'm not sure I want to switch despite maxing my vocation.

It's not necessarily slow by any means - Blink Strike and whatever it's upgraded form are called are pretty much my most important skill. It almost always knocks down human-sized enemies, with the exception of bandit fighters or warriors, at which point a single light-pause-light combo can kill the enemy. It's also ridiculously easy to chain multiple blink strikes to knock down whole groups of enemies, and you can follow up one blink strike with another almost immediately. Despite having a fighter main pawn and a warrior pawn in my group, I'm almost always the first one into any fray and they clean up the rest.

^^ Shima if you don't know what to change to Mystic Knight has some augments for better blocking, the rest of the class wasn't terribly good though. Assassin can still use Blink Strike and has some other nice sword moves too. ^^

Does the item that lets you remake your character let you rename him too? If not can you rename your character when starting NG+?

Is it me or does the Mystic Knight have some wonky skill layouts? Why in the world the Mystic Knight gets a bigger shield and a bunch of tank augments when he has no skills to actually make use of them I don't know. They did have that really cool air dash sword/mace move which I miss. I switched to Assassin instead and they've got some good fun sword skills. The shield skills are lacking again though. They have a shield charge move but it can't actually hit people, it's just for advancing quickly while blocking which was a big let down. I just wanted to knock people over like bowling pins. I didn't get too far into MK nor am I too far into Assassin now so they could get better.

Knight augments are just about the worst ones in the game, but the class is still my favourite. Having your shield shoot fireballs and lasers at people while you sky dance everywhere simply can't be matched by the other classes.

Also for those that started NG+, do the harder enemies stay around when you start NG+, or is it all the derpy little weak ones again?

*ed*

Also Stone forest(upgraded one) for the Knight, is just about the coolest giant killer move in the game if you can get it off. You just slam your sword into the ground and then you are the epicenter of a massive explosion.

Sky dance pretty early on, holy glare is really later on.

Also Knight is amazing at ranged combat, they get to equip staves and use pretty much the entire mage offensive tree.

Knight and Assassin makes me wish the game had realtime weapon switching, instead of having to go to re-equip every time the dynamic of a fight changes.

A Mystic Knight, hmm. I'll consider it. If I swap vocation do I lose skills I've purchased such as the upgraded combat skills for fighter, or do they just become inaccessible if the new class doesn't have access to them?

Also, in regards to quests that expire, how do you tell if they are timed? I've been taking the random kill/collect 2 million random items or rabbits or what have you quests to help get them out of the way, and I'd rather not have them start failing just because I don't want to grind rabbits as much as kill a few when I see them.

The vocation specific skills become inaccessible until you switch back. Mystic Knight carries over a lot of the core sword and shield skills from Figher.

see them.

Fighters and their derivatives have some shared skills, so you would keep blink strike and say, combo options you have purchased. You cannot take over anything unique to the fighter however, like their shield skills(Knights use "Mystic" shields, not regular ones).

Well, the "earliest" sorcs can learn that augment is at max job level, and it is also 9000 points. I switched my pawn over to sorc mostly to get that originally and it will take a while. As for the other, pawns cannot be the hybrid classes.

I think bandits come in at least 3 "levels." Some are harmless and give me 100xp, some are kind of tough and give me 200xp, and then some take almost no damage and never stagger and kill you in 2 hits and give 400xp. I just wish there was some way to tell them apart before you hit them and see how much damage you do. It makes me miss the enemy adjectives from Skyrim.

This was the first one I tried. :negative: It made me actually start saving between fights in the overworld.

Go one way, die to super-bandits. Go another way, slowly grind through twenty saurians until a chimera sees me and kills me along with ten more saurians. Squeeze between them and run into the drake. Run away and try to sneak past, run into it again. Say "gently caress it" and run past until I reach the Shadow Fort.

Their augments compared to every other classes are fairly jank. Their taking less physical damage is worse than the warriors version, blocking barely takes any stam anyway. Blocking bigger hits is the only real useful one out of their entire lineup, and does get some use.

Well, now I'm all done with the mage tree, and I'm pretty disappointed with the final vocational skill rank. I'm totally happy with High Comestion, though, and I'm thinking that'll come in handy when I tray sorcerer. But I don't really want to right away. I've done mage all game long, and even though I really enjoyed the class, I want something that can stay alive for five seconds if, say, a bandit ranger decides to get uppity.

So where should I go next? Mystic knight seems like the most obvious option. Or Magic Archer, but I'll be honest, Knight sounds way cooler. I want to eventually ease my way over to the assassin class, too, but I don't know if I'll have time to get 4 vocations to a respectable level before the game ends.

So what's been fun for you guys? Is there anything worth knowing about Sorcerer/Knight/Assassin? Or should I just hit up Strider or Fighter and do one of those for a few vocation ranks first?

It's pretty late in the class that you get the ability. If you're on xbox then I can give you a particular quest item that reduces cast time. I started NG+ as a warrior so I won't get much use out of it and can get a new one at some point in this story as well.

Switching from sorc to warrior is a huge change and so far I love it. It's nice to get a completely new take on the game, though it's a shame that everything is so weak because of the level I start at. At least it makes me feel like a badass. I created He Man which is a perfect match for the longsword. His curious lack of pants makes it all the better

Mystic Knight rocks, I don't know what you people are talking about. It has attacks for every occasion. If you have a high magic attack, his Great Cannon becomes death incarnate for 3/4ths of everything you fight if you bring good shield Trance enchant skills with you. Ruinous Sigil is also highly useful against a few enemy types and you can make your great cannon orbs go absolutely nuts if you put a few of those at a bosses foot and lay down a ruinous sigil.

Drakes? Use ruinous sigil underneath his feet, will knock him on his rear end and do good damage. Wail on his heart to your content. If flying, use a weapon enchant and Great Cannon. He will come down pretty quickly.

Ogres? Use your favorite enchanted weapon type, put down 3 Great Cannons and go wild. Thing will go down quick.

Cyclops? See above.

Hydra? Well, the only useful thing here is you can enchant your own weapon with fire to keep the heads from growing back for longer.

Chimera? You can use the same idea as the ogres and cyclops, then just grab on and wail on the last head that survives for a real easy kill.

Beholder? Switch to your staff, use a high powered spell once or twice to break his shield, go back to your melee weapon and go nuts. Also, explosive barrels break their shields.

Wraith? Holy Trance + 3 great cannons = very quickly dead wraith.

And so on. Anything he doesn't have an easy way to kill, he has the armor to take the attacks and keep coming like a fighter or warrior.

It might help that I maxed out Mage and Sorcerer so I had a very high magic and magic defense skill.
