Went to Lencois Maranhenses Park on a personal trip with several other Embassy couples. We did a 30 minute tourist overflight of the park with girls going on the first trip and guys going on the 2nd. We hit the top of a tree on our landing. One of the guys I was with is a pilot in the States and looked back at me with the biggest oh poo poo face. About a meter or less in elevation and it would have been a busy Memorial Day weekend for the ACS officer in Recife. Still did a 4x4 jeep tour and about an hour trek into the dunes, an all day boat tour and some ATVing on the beach. Pretty good Memorial Day weekend (especially that part about not crashing in a 4 seater plane)

I almost wound up in Recife or my first tour. It took all my machinations to avoid that one; at the time it was a two-person post, and I wasn't down with that. Glad to see nobody was hurt in that landing!

Business of Ferrets posted:Isn't Latin America just about the best you can hope for? I don't know, I think Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia are all decent enough. Even Kazakhstan isn't that bad, especially since the AID office is in Almaty instead of Astana. Anyway, I'll never go to Latin America, because I don't already speak Spanish and that makes it incredibly hard to break into that region in AID. Unless I want to go to Haiti or do 4 tours in a row in Afghanistan, there's basically no way. Also, it's not like we're in Chile or Argentina. Aside from Peru and maybe Colombia, I'd 10 times rather go to Vietnam or Bosnia than anywhere we have missions in Latin America, anyway. But yeah, it's gonna suck coming out of Baghdad with all the Embassy people shooting for WHA or EUR, and I'll be scrambling for Morocco or something. (Nothing against Morocco, I'm sure it would be very interesting.) pamchenko fucked around with this message at 22:35 on May 28, 2012 |

Read something that will help you relax or focus, depending on your personality... Good luck.

I think I got very, very lucky in my group for the group portion of the assessment. We really rocked it. I personally felt that was the hardest part (because you can't prep for it) and also the part that I had the least control over.

If you study the practice ones at the yahoo group, you should have an idea how it should run, and even if the rest of your group does poorly, your efforts on behalf of yourself and the group (you should always be trying to help the group do better) can lift you over the top. In comparison the CM you never have enough time for and will always be second guessing yourself.

I actually found CM to be straightforward and finished with plenty of time for editing. I guess everyone experiences it differently!

OA tomorrow, and going over the checklist. I inadvertently e-submitted the SF-86 on eQIP without printing it. Am I dead? Previously, I brought a personal statement to the OA. It's not on the checklist here any more. http://careers.state.gov/resources/...ist-candidates- As it stands, all I'm bringing is my US passport. Really don't want to get turned away, after shlepping all the way out here to DC. EDIT: Just found DS-4017. D'oh! TheImmigrant fucked around with this message at 21:06 on May 31, 2012 |
