The tainted mountain is the final area of the game that you go to specifically for the dragon fight, and healing springs are just little springs that, surprise, heal you when you stand in them, nothing major. There's one in the southwest of the map (north of conqueror's sanctuary), one way up north next to the duke's manse), and one just north of the bridge north of Gran Soren. The last one is the easiest to get to, just go across the bridge and keep heading north in a straight line until you see a pond with a big rock in it. Also bring 50 empty flasks so you can fill them up and get a really good, cheap party heal item.

I don't think I'd bother with more than one charge attack though. I have the one charge up, Lunge for mobility, and Whirlwind Smash because it pops up and knocks down nearly any non-huge single target while doing great damage and often hitting a guy behind you too. So I guess I'd say go with more versatility.

Arc of Might/Deliverance is certainly hilarious, yeah. I don't get along too well with Lunge, though, but I may be using it wrong. It just seems to require a huge wind-up and tends to be a bit hard to steer for me.

Level 45-50 is about where I've been. The post game will be a nice challenge so don't worry about that.

Does anyone know how long it takes Reynard to move or what his route is for which camps he visits? Search party is the last optional quest I have left before I go and fight the dragon but the dude's disappeared on me and I can't find him anywhere.

I can't decide on a 3rd dagger skill for my Strider. I've got Scarlet kisses and Entangle right now. I've tried Trigger and Toss but didn't like it very much, and the dash skill never turned out to be very useful. I don't think I'd use reset that much either. Maybe Helm Splitter combined with double jump would be good?

Also, on a semi-related note, does anyone know what the level cap (if there is one) is? It's 199 or 200, I forget. But stat growth slows down significantly after level 100. Like, to the point where you don't gain anything in stats that your class isn't good at.

There's nothing wrong with doing that, it's just that your bow skills will be kind of mediocre on the damage side. Still fun to play as.

If you set that quest as your primary quest, it should highlight his location on the map. I had a slight issue with that when he was in Cassardis. I went to find him, but as I entered, he was leaving. His mark was still on Cassardis, but I had to sleep a couple of days before he showed up in the village.

Going from my maxed out Ranger to a Magic Archer was very painful, but just staying a maxed out Ranger for the entire game seemed like a bad idea, and kind of boring. I maxed out Ranger before doing even one of the Wyrm Hunt quests just by wandering around doing random stuff. Right now Magick Archer is at level 6 I think, and it's starting to get a bit more powerful, but so far it doesn't seem like anything is as good as the Ranger's 10-fold Flurry.

Also, a question...should you change classes so much? I mean, I suppose Strider/Ranger get somewhat similar stat-boosts, so going from Strider/Ranger might not be considered a proper class change per-se, but if I want to go from Magick Archer to, let's say, Mystic Knight, would that be too many classes? Would I be spreading my stat gains too thinly between too many stats?

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it too much. You'll end up really overpowered even without sorcerer/assassin damage gains.

Unless they release some big 'gently caress you plebes' DLC, min-maxing is only really useful if you want to sperg out on the game.

I went from lvl 7 Strider to Magic Archer. MA is pretty awesome, what with the lock on and all, but oh boy do the bow skills really start to blow later on. I was doing piddly damage, especially when compared to my Warrior/Sorc companions. Just swapped to Ranger, hope that gives me the ranged damage I need.

The augment system is based around hopping between classes, but you can play through just fine using only a couple classes. Augments and equipment make a lot more of a difference than your base stats.

Yeah I love my MA, it's a lot of fun but even here fairly early on (mid/late 20s) my bow skills feel pretty weak. Fighting giant monsters is basically 15-20+ minutes of me running away and casting Sixfold Bolt repeatedly :( A big part of it is that I just can't find a Magic Bow upgrade, I'm still using the first one. I've upgraded it to 3 stars but I still feel weak.

Does it get even worse later on? If so, I think I'll switch to Assassin or Ranger now.

Edit: MA is also frustrating because it's hard to aim at specific monster bodyparts sometimes. My reticule will be over the Cyclops' head, but it still locks on to his arms.

Honestly I just made sure that the mage pawn supporting me only had the holy buff. Bam all of the postgame enemies are now easy. (Seriously, pretty sure every enemy in post game is weak to holy, except for Dragons and the final boss)

Also I feel like boons are best on rangers/striders/assasins because of the way boon damage is calculated, using the multi shot skills just adds tons of extra damage. I could knock out a hellhound in two tenfold arrows with my ranger as long as it was buffed.

None of the vendors have unlocked new gear for a long time and I noticed most of the pawns I see have gear I have never even seen. Is it unlocked by leveling or quests or what? I jumped ship on MA around level 25, so I don't know if it gets better. Maybe if I waited for the 8/9 skills. Also, are you talking about the Cyclops fight in the Water God Temple? Doing nothing to it and having to wait for my pawns to kill it because my arrows would never lock on to the head is pretty much when I decided to switch.

Well I just beat the dragon. It was a good boss fight. Decently hard but not a pisstake. I imagine being a magick archer might have had something to do with that though.

Magick archers become far better against big monsters once you've the level 8/9 vocation exploding arrow and immolation. You then just fire loads of explosive arrows on it before setting yourself on fire and climbing onto it

I haven't got to that quest yet on this character, but just other cyclops in general. The ogre in the Catacombs was a bitch and a half, and I've fought a couple chimeras that took me an entire in-game day to kill.

It's weird because I have fun while doing that stuff, like the class itself is a blast to play, but I just don't have enough time to spend 20 minutes on every giant monster I run across.

Edit: ^^ That sounds hilarious.

Vendors only "naturally" update after main story quests. Go do a few if you're feeling that your gear is terrible. Alternatively, almost every piece of gear that can be purchased (and a significant amount that can't) can also be found in chests.

Having an idol in your inventory gives you a discount. Giving the vendor the idol causes them to get new items in their stock. Madealine gets new items immediately, while Caxton takes 3-4 ingame days to get new stock after an idol is given. DO NOT give a shopkeeper an idol as a present. Caxton and Madealine will each ask for an idol during a quest, give it to them at that time through that interface. If you don't have the quests yet, you're not far enough along in the story for it.

You can only give each shopkeeper one idol, so don't give them the bronze idols unless you missed out on the gold idol, and then only to one of them (the other should get the silver idol which is not easily missable, afaik). You can forge the idols and keep the forged idol for the discount. Do not give a shopkeeper a forged idol, it will finish the quest but not add stock.

There are two bronze idols, one silver idol, and one gold idol in the game.
Bronze Idols:
In Selene's house in witchwood, in a window
In the dragonforged's hut, on a rock
Silver Idol:
Quest reward for killing a cyclops in the caverns beneath Shadow Fort. (Requires the quest, or the enemy won't spawn)
Gold Idol:
Reward for the quest Escort Duty. Needs to be done before Fournival's trial, OR after finding him innocent. Requires you to have successfully completed a handful of other quests. To get the idol, you need to find the girl as quickly as possible when she hides, have a flask of water ready for as soon as she asks, and let her win the race. After the quest is done, speak to her. You won't receive it as a regular quest reward. If you mess up too much, you'll get a golden egg or an empty flask instead of the idol.
