Jackie-O's Dark Apparition.

Brewery exclusive, they released ~300 bottles of the vanilla variant a few months ago (I was there). The regular Dark Apparition was last released in 2011.

It's pretty good, the vanilla version is one of my favorite vanilla beers (only thing I've had that's better is Bourbon County Vanilla) and they also have a Kopi edition (poo poo coffee!), along with an iced version (phenomenal).

It's a shame Jackie O's doesn't get much hype from beer nerds. All their bottled beers are really interesting and different with very limited bottle numbers. I think the fact that they don't distribute at all helps them fly under the radar.

If you're looking to compare distribution of Ohio and New Jersey, use seekabrew.com. Have him send you some Bells, Dark Horse, Three Floyds, and Two Brothers (assuming he can get them and they don't distribute to NJ nowadays).

Had a Greenbush Brewery Doomslayer, an American strong ale brewed with maple sap. Had a really nice maple finish, almost pancake like. Anyone else had anything from them? Seems like they are just making it into Indiana.

I've been trying to set-up a trade with this guy from Ohio and it's been kind of a pain since neither of us know what the other can get, thank you Ratebeer. I don't know why it didn't occur to me until just now, but I can see the top beers brewed per state! I asked him to look into Thirsty Dog's Siberian Night Imperial Stout and Jackie-O's Dark Apparition. I don't know if they are rare or hard to find, but I'm hoping one of them will be found.

No no no. White Rajah by The Brew Kettle, previously mentioned Columbus IPA, and BORIS the Crusher and/or DORIS the Destroyer from Hoppin' Frog.

"Belgian IPA"s are crap. I've not had one American "Belgian IPA" that I thought was any good.
Rayon Vert is not a Belgian IPA and its awesome, Le Freak kind of is and I think its totally passable.
What is awesome is American Farmhouse beers, some of which get quite hoppy but the character melds with the good saison yeast character to make a totally awesome beer.
Boulevard Tank 7, Saison Brett, Stillwater Cellar Door, Stateside Saison, Lost Abbey Carnevale, Ovila Saison, Green Flash/St Fueillien Biere de L'Amitie are excellent examples of an American Farmhouse / hoppy saison and I could drink them nearly every day.
I made an hoppy American Farmhouse with Falconers Flight & Simcoe hops and it was so stupidly good.

Higher ABV. The D in DORIS stands for Double Oatmeal Russian Imperial Stout. It's basically BORIS on roids. BORIS is better.

Also, they're both made year round, although DORIS is a lot harder to find than BORIS which isn't necessarily easy to find.

The prices do seem really high; basically $3-$5 per bottle markup from what I can tell. But for signing up, they're giving $10 off and free shipping for 6+ bottles and there's a lot of west coast stuff I can't get. Tempting...

haven't used it, but the reviews lead me to believe it's all legit. they're in Seattle, so maybe avoid the non-NW beers, but when you factor in the $10 discount for a first-time order, my feeling is that it's worth a shot if you don't care to work out trades.

Chicagoons: Anyone get lucky with Parabola yet? Just curious. A little birdy told me that Printer's Row Wine Shop had a case yesterday but I got there 45 minutes after they sold the last bottle. Side note: I'd never been there, but that's a really nice bottle shop. Prices are reasonable for being in the city, selection was excellent, very nicely organized. Recommended. I did pick up stuff from Pipeworks: Close Encounter and End of Days. Haven't tried them but I'm pumped.

I went to Capone's on Elston, they have all the Pipeworks stuff, but no Parabola. They had a case and apparently they did the whole reserve list, so there were bottles there, but not for public purchase apparently. Another excellent, well priced bottle shop.

I've seen their list updated consistently on beermenus.com. Looks like a huge selection. Probably need to hit it sometime.

The trick they don't tell you is that the prices on beermenus are lower than their actual in-store marked prices. Firestone Walker XV (back when they had it)? $20 on beermenus (already high). $25 in store. I avoid them as much as possible due to this bait and switch crap.

They do gouge a bit on the rarer stuff, but they do consistently have harder to find stuff for reasonable prices. Tons of Tart Lychee and Cocoa Mole still there for $8-10.

True, but that doesn't excuse the disparity they willfully and intentionally introduce between advertised prices and actual prices.

And... that's lovely.

By the way, crazyfish, if you are looking for XV, the Famous Liquors in Forest Park still had it for $19 as of last week. They finally ran out of Sucaba (though Marion Cheese Market in Oak Park still has bottles). Both are reasonably or very close to CTA lines. This is why I'm not worried about getting Parabola yet. The last batches of "rare" stuff is still floating around.

Send him my way, I'll trade my 2011 Parabola to him. I understand why people want Parabola, but Sucaba is still sitting on shelves here and it's equally as good per style. I guess I'll see how popular Parabola is around here once it hits shelves, I have a feeling it will be sitting for a while.

Edit: Belgian Yeti is my favorite as well, it's so velvety on the tongue.

Edit 2: loving hell Goose Island's Brown Ale is fantastic. It's near the status of Coffee Bender by Surly to me, just toned down. This beer is excellently balanced and very interesting in the mid-taste. Well loving done.
