I picked up a bottle of Saison-bret yesterday and it's sitting in my fridge anxiously waiting for me to get off work. This will be the first time I've had it and I'm excited. I'm a huge fan of Tank 7 and by all accounts this is going to be like Tank 7++. If I really love the stuff I might go pick up a few more bottles. Just about every liquor store around me currently has some, but I suspect they'll be cleaned out by the end of the weekend.

Been big into Belgian beer for a few years now, buying a single of something I've never tried every time I come across one. I was introduced to Delirium a year or so back at a local pub/restaurant and instantly fell in love. Much to my chagrin, no liquor stores, whether they be government or private, carried Delirium. I tried getting every government liquor store to order me some as they'll more often than not do that for customers, however I got a different story from every branch I visited (some said that due to it's name it could not be sold here). Anyways, a local specialty store (Legacy Liquor) found some from a distributor in eastern Canada and brought it in. I was so estatic I snap-bought an entire case.  24 of these cost me nearly $120. God bless western Canada

Just realized I'm up in McLean visiting my brother while SAVOR is going on in DC just a stone's throw away. Tickets not only went on sale in April, they're also $120. gently caress me, that pisses me off.  Seeing as how I'm here, though, anyone know of any good drink spots/bottle shops in the DC/Tyson's Corner area I should hit up? With the event going on I'd rather hit the shops up sooner than later since the deluge of beer geeks will probably strip them of anything interesting, and I'm sure local bars will be running specials or something.

Took a break from all of the IPAs and went with a classic - Ommegang Abbey ale. Dubbels are just too good. Honestly I think this is better than St. Bernardus' and maybe Westmalle, though Rochefort reigns 100% supreme. Next buy will be Tank 7 and a Karmeliet

And its closer to Dexter (and Chicago) and there are other beer things to do in town. They don't really have anything in the way of 'exclusives' though, outside of say...tshirts and custom mugs. What they have for sale in bottles varies, and you can actually get a lot of it for cheaper at area stores. You can get almost everything they have on tap to-go in a growler too. Call them before you make the trip, I'm sure they'd tell you what's on tap. Also I'll be in Chicago a week from tomorrow for a goon beer tasting. I'll post some more concrete details in a couple days to keep it fresh for people, but essentially we are going to meet at a BYOB at 4:30ish and then hit up some bars afterward. I didn't know that, I thought my 2008 was a rare gem! I plan on drinking it later, it's just a thought that crossed my mind. Edit: Whoa, I was not expecting Funky Jewbelation to taste and smell like this. The nose has a slightly sour, leathery, vinegar and pomegranate/cherry nose but it's backed by chocolate, hints of oak, and hints of vanilla. The flavor is very similar, the intro I can't really describe other than mildly sweet chocolate with a mildly sour pomegranate finish that becomes more of a vinegar lingering finish. Excellent beer, really friendly and knowledgeable staff (even when it's busy), and fantastic food. Falling Rock has great selection, but it's crowded, noisy, the bartenders are too busy, you can't read the taps, and they rotate so often that the menus are always out of date. Great Divide is also like 3 blocks away from Falling Rock. Of course, you could always hit them all up, they're about 5min apart by car.

Taxi to Coors Field. Walk to Falling Rock, Star Bar, the River North Brewery, and Great Divide. If you somehow want more beer after that, then goto Freshcraft and Wynkoop. Also The 1up, assuming there ain't a line out the door, is fun.

I just drove up to Kenosha this morning and bought a shitload of New Glarus so my beer budget is a bit tight now. I really like the saison profile from the fresh one, but I had an 07 last year and the beer gets funkier with time.
