My local Shiba Rescue had puppies last night. They're thinking Shiba Inu and half border collie or Shih tzu.

I just know the puppies are going to be hard to resist when they're old enough to be adopted out! I like girl 2 the best. :3:

Karen London did a guest post on The Other End of the Leash blog, about how dogs and people both get the "runner's high", whilst animals such as ferrets don't. It's an interesting read, for if you jog with your dog or not.

I've done it before and it was authentic, however that's been a while ago. Like, Okinawa a while ago. Uh.. year? Year and a half? because the vets were out. They're a relatively large, well-known site, so I'd imagine Frontline would kick their rear end if it wasn't authentic.

Dancingthroughlife, if you wouldn't mind boxing up and sending me girl 1 and boy 1 I would very much appreciate it. Goodness knows I don't mind bottle feeding things and shipping only gets higher if you wait :v:

Balen and Amy have their shots today. Balen's been kinda barfy lately too, but I think it's just the heat. Still, gonna get furryfuzzy checked out.

I used to order my Frontline+ from PetEdge as well. It was nice for when I wanted to buy other stuff, since there's a dollar amount you have to go over in order to not get charged extra and buying 6mo of Frontline definitely made it easier to hit. It always looked authentic to me too.

Dear, sweet, lovable little Kaydee. Look, I know you're trying to help. Really, I do. But when I blow my nose, please stop trying to fix the weird sound by crawling on my chest and looking Immensely Concerned. Thanks.

Oh, and Balen made best friends with a kitten at the vet that was getting adopted out. Amy walked over and it reared back and hissed at her. Poor Amy. And while we were there, someone put their cat down. I didn't know what was going on, but I guess he did? The mom came out of there crying with a bunch of little girls. He put his ears back, sat, and lifted a paw up and waved it at them (it's an old trick but he hasn't done it off command in ages). A couple of the kids saw and came over and snuggled with him until.. he kinda had the whole family on him. And he just sat there, wagging his tail, rubbing his head against them and basically being wonderful. The vet snuck him another milkbone for being such a kind old gentleman. :unsmith: They weren't crying so much when they left.

My aunt and uncle came and stayed with us for the weekend and brought this muppet:

her name is Rosie and she's 4 months. And a LOVER. She acted like I was the best person in the world and she loved me more than anyone or anything from the very second she met me, and she had a great time playing with Orbit. It was funny seeing the differences between a lapdog and a herding dog-- she was totally not phased by anything going on, just laid around like a lump and snuggled with everyone. Orbit was very busy DOING HIS JOB which was to make sure everyone knew the rules (stairs are dangerous for dogs, under the couch is off limits, his humans can't snuggle other dogs too much, stuff going on outside needed to be reported, etc.). He was keeping his eyes on everyone and if he was sleeping and someone got up to leave the room he'd lift up his head to make sure everything was ok. Rosie would just keep being a lump.

In some ways, it made me wish I got a snuggly lapdog who loves every person ever, instead of a herding dog who will bark at strangers until he learns they're ok and gets nervous and is anti-snuggle half the time. But it also really made me appreciate what he does for us and how much he obviously CARES about us and our house and how he helps keep everything in order. He really has a job, and I never quite realized it until I saw the difference between him and this other dog over the course of the weekend.

Yeah, usually they are all spoken for before the litter hits the ground. :3: I know a few years back, they were part of a Shiba group on LiveJournal before they had any means of communicating/contacting with them. I asked them some questions about their dogs and they just kind of freaked out at me, wondering how I got that account info. Never said anything when I told them they posted on LJ about their dogs, I figured I could ask them stuff. In retrospect, I think they might have just been harassed by someone, it was way back with the A team.

Hey guys, question.

We have a foster in our rescue right now that has severe confinement anxiety. As in, he chewed down literally all of his teeth to little stubs on crate and gate bars over his life. He is okay in the crate with the door open and will go in himself sometimes, but close the door and it is instant panic mode (I know this can be worked on.) His new foster home is having a hard time getting him to settle in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep (he is fine during the day). Between 2 and 5 in the morning he is pacing and digging on the tile, carpet and sheet rock and starting to cause some damage and they don't want to keep him around if he is going to keep causing damage to their rental, which I completely understand. He even had an accident in the middle of one of these. He is going to the vet this week, but in the meantime anything we can tell him to help out his foster? Anything we should check with the vet?

He holds everything in just fine during the day and he gets taken out before bed and after they wake up. For the few days he was with me, he mostly just wanted out of the bedroom, but then he'd go paw at the food container or dig in the carpet until I told him enough times to knock it off, but three days of no sleep really got to me and I feel for the guy (and gave him some warning). He's tried both door being open and closed and usually finds he will sneak off somewhere to dig because he wants outside (under the bed, in a closet, in another room etc.)

Do you think talking to the vet about some drugs are in order to help him calm down? He's a very on edge dog to begin with and gets startled by some strange things. For example, Koji was sitting near me on the couch and Murdock came up and fell asleep. 5 minutes later, he seemed to have forgotten Koji was even there, woke up, and snapped at him. I was watching them the whole time, neither Koji or I moved at all, he just suddenly got startled and snapped. Same with petting, he will allow you to come up and pet him but then will suddenly snap if you go too fast (which is why the family with the new baby gave him up in the first place. He's extremely touchy around his neck and shoulders due to using a shock collar.) His eyes were slightly cloudy but not bad and he can hear just fine as far as we could tell. Murdock is 8.

There's a book that I really want but refuse to pay for by Dr. Sophia Yin about restraining animals you might be interested in. Ridiculously expensive, though, so I'd only splurge on it if you seriously want to get in to the field as a career. Other than that, stuff on animal behavior is always good. No matter your field, for some reason you find a disturbing number of people that don't have a great understanding of body language. Don't trust that the people you're working with know what they're doing in this regard. Yes, I'm jaded. :colbert:

I cannnot remember if I told him the proper comand to stay away because I freaking out about the milk going everywhere - under my stove, refrigerator. Either way, he drank all the milk he could get. How bad is his tummy going to be? Is it going to be waking me up a few times to go out tonight or more like a oh man I have go out, oops didn't make it kinda night?

I saw that book. I am interested in it as a career, but maybe I can find an older edition used. Have you tried abebooks.com? I picked up two really general textbooks on there last night for like $10 total because they were last edition.

Of course its probably not like buying art history textbooks where the editions change because they have a new theory or some bullshit (I studied art in college). Oh well. I also picked up a pet first aid book at the library because I realized I have no clue how to do any of this stuff! I mean, I probably do but its had some good tips. Also pet CPR I don't know and it covered it.

There were like 20+ imgur apps to choose from, are some better than others? I haven't really had time to sort through it because I was busy as hell otherwise and then now we're adding George's search dog training to everything else and holy poo poo am I too busy for words and am really bad at technology because this poo poo always takes me way longer than it should. :saddowns:

If I could somehow get my next dog from an American shelter, I would. I'm fairly sure there are lots of young dogs which more than meet my criteria and have been given away because they're "tireless and demanding" or "too hyper" or "play too rough" or herd the kids or whatever. :(

He apparently did better last night after even more wearing out and some training (the foster home already taught him to shake. :3: They closed all the doors and he actually ended up sleeping in his bed all night, no digging, so hopefully this is the first step to him not freaking out.)
