So everyone. You need to rent my pawn if you want a Ranger who actively kills golems, dragons, chimeras and chimichangas while at range. And with style. Mercedes has gone up in ranking a whole lot for good reason.

Bah, you want a badass ranger, pick up my pawn on xbox, gamertag cj coyo7e, pawn name is "le Chat Noir". He's very short, very fat, has quite the sweet mustache and gear, and he's a max rank ranger who's maxxed fighter, mage, and strider as well. Personality is set to Challenger/Utilitarian, iirc.

He also doesn't talk very often, because I'm pretty sure you've figured out which enemies are weak to fire by now.

Wow. Ogres.

I mean I kind of get how to fight them (climb the head, stab the head, jump off if he tries to pancake you) but once the fight gets into the enrage part I just don't know what the gently caress. I can't melee him and my arrows are doing gently caress all damage even if I headshot him. The last two I killed by kiting one into a pit and peppering the other with 90 poison arrows. Neither is a sustainable strategy, I think.

Help!

I'm a level 20 strider.

this is probably my favorite game in a long long time.

on my wishlist for DD2, if they make it, would be the ability to change skills and augments without talking to the innkeeper.

Fight it later. Not much later, it won't be long before your levels and equipment catch up and turn you into a monster, but a little later. Or hire a high level Sorcerer and let them tear it apart.

OK, I'll get on that.

I didn't actively seek out ogres. I ran into three on my way through the quarry and then one more under Gran Soren (spoilered in case someone hasn't gone to those locations yet) and they were kind of a rude awakening.

On that note, what's the deal with vocation skills? I mean I get that only some skills will cross over to other vocations, but I was pretty surprised when I went from strider to ranger and literally none of my bow skills worked anymore. Even though the skill lists I found seemed to list them as ranger skills as well.

Bow skills wouldn't carry over because the bows aren't the same. Rangers use longbows as opposed to shortbows. However some of your dagger skills will carry over, but not the Strider only ones. You can tell when setting your skills by looking in the bottom right with the skill highlighted, you'll see little vocation icons showing who can use it.

Oh geeze, how the hell did I miss that? I mean I was going to use dagger skills as a specific example in my post and even swapped out my bow because my old one didn't work anymore, but for some reason just didn't make the connection.

OK so I guess before I swap vocations I'll need to grind some more points to unlock skills with so I don't have to start out from scratch (I assume the points are universal at least).

Say, do you know how to do the walk?
The only thing I wish I could change about the game is the stamina and sprinting. Having your stamina go down from sprinting when you aren't in combat is aggravating.

One of the best things Oblivion changed from Morrowind was having your stamina regen slowly while sprinting.

I had two escort quests, one to take Mercedes to the Shadow Fort (Scouting Mission?) and one to take a merchant from the encampment to somewhere. Both these missions have gone after only doing sidequests and I'm not sure why. The only thing I can think of is I did another mission that was to escort the village elder from Cassardis to the Shadow Fort, but that seems weird that escort quests lock each other out.

Anyone have any ideas?

Escort quests come and go regularly. They also would have vanished if you had slept through a few days at the inn.

I'm not clear on it either. Sometimes I think the escorts are just on a timer and pass if you dick around too long.

I keep getting more escorts as time goes on, but none with good rewards like those from the start of the game.

By the way, in the Aid Mercedes story quest was I supposed to interfere in the duel or not? I held back until near the end of the banter and started to attack Julien because Mercedes was turning into a gore pinata. After I landed about two hits, the cutscene took over and Julien left, with Mercedes completely dejected. Then when I talked to her she had the pink cloud of love around her head and promised to return. But I didn't then get an opportunity to fight Julien myself. Is there a reason to?

You should have been able to kill Julian but something about the duel is really finicky and maybe even buggy. When I tried to help her I accidentally hit her with my big sword and she instantly lost the duel. Or at least I think that's what happened. It really isn't clear.

Mercedes leaves dejected either way. If you don't interrupt you'll get a fairly nice rapier from her that will be obsolete shortly thereafter, if you do interrupt and kill Julian you should get a cutlass that isn't as good, also your standing with her will go down. If you do kill him and then use a wakestone to revive him you'll later find him in the Duke's dungeon where he'll give you his unique shield, though you need to do this before speaking to Mercedes or his corpse might vanish before you have the chance.

^^^ There was this one really amazing sorcerer called Red who I hired on my first playthrough and who destroyed absolutely everything that survived a fight with me for more then 30 seconds. He looked like a completely badass old dude with white hair and a scar over his eye. When I finally had to switch him out due to being about 15 levels above him, I figured hey, I might as well re-hire him since he's leveled a bit since then and he was so great before.

I re-summon him and he casually strolls into the rift wearing a fancy dress. :gonk:

Unless you haven't maxed your old vocation, you should switch to Ranger right now because it will gain vocation ranks that way which is much better than starting off slightly tougher but taking longer to get to rank 9, because advanced and hybrid vocations take much longer to max than basic ones.

Basically, you want to get to tenfold arrow as fast as possible because it will let you kill just about anything alive by looking in its general direction. And then you'll want great gamble because it's definitely a competitor for the most fun skill in the game.

If you want an actual hat that looks good, unfortunately no, casters mostly just get terrible floppy hoods. If you just want something that provides defense without looking bad that any class can wear, the circlet isn't very noticeable and the bandit's mask/gossip's mask are awesome. Although they probably wouldn't look very good on a wizard.

Speaking of which, isn't there a red version of the bandit's mask? If so, where do you get it?

The last one said something like "I think you'll find me a whole new class of challenge" right before getting high miasma, arrows, fireballs and a big-rear end sword to the face all at once.

In fact, I expected a fight with him and all the guys from before all at once, that would have been a hell of a fight, but it was just him. No single human-sized enemy no matter how powerful can be that much of a threat in this game if you have a full party of four.

Or even one if you happen to be an assassin with Masterful Kill. That postgame encampment notice board quest where you duel the dude who did the pawn tutorial training quests at the beginning was just a bunch of hapless throat slitting. His larynx must be made of steel because it took about eight of those to bring him down, although it was pretty hilarious seeing him still running up and trying to swing at me after what had happened every time he tried that before.

It's very minimalist early on but there's a lot of foreshadowing and interpretation sprinkled throughout. Then you get to a certain point and things go off the rails on the crazy train. It also has a bit of video game writing in there but it doesn't beat you over the head like "Would you kindly" so no one in the press noticed or praised it.

- the augment that reduces your encumberence, that's assassin right?
