In the first video, the GT car is dented but the drivers compartment is almost completely unscathed. The cage doesnt even look dented. In the second one the tire wall appeared to prevent the LM car from going right up and over it and into the spectators. A few got nailed by debris but compared to the alternative its seriously impressive.

Didn't that night crash end up with a ride to hospital, too? I seem to remember it did. In any case, LMP cars are the only race cars left that turn into airplanes as soon as they spin. Flat bottoms suck.

If someone who has presumably been threatening me jumps on my vehicle, I'm not going to get out or sit there and allow him/her to cause more damage, I'm going to remove myself and my vehicle from the situation. From what is shown in that video, the driver made the right call. He took the most instantly available opportunity to escape, and if it got his attacker killed, that's fine, there's no moral problem there. What you can't see is whether he instigated or escalated the situation, and that's very important.
