After the R1 spec, GTCC wound down for the night with a bit of car soccer. The second game was 3v3 E class, with a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon on each team. The Rubicons were a big factor in the game, as is demonstrated here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8IrNOQlEmE

For the B-class match, my Lancia 037 kicked the ball upwards like that pretty well. There was one shot I took from midfield that would have cleared the entire pitch and gone in the upper half of the net, if I wasn't so poo poo at aiming... I think it bounced off the wall before landing on the asphalt 2 car-lengths left of the goal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfHS_pY-6oQ EHonda beats me to 2nd by a thousandth of a second. The dick. Great race, though! Also the 1982 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3 has the most hosed paint co-ordinates I've ever seen. If you paste from right to left, the vinyls will be down and forwards by about 20 each and will be all stretched so it's pretty much impossible to line it up in any way correct. Also, any vinyls around the rear wheel will be mirrored onto the side of the wing on the left hand side, despite being fine on the right. I was making a pretty cool livery, too! Also, a couple of things I did today.

Forza people who also play iRacing, can you describe your experience going to and from Forza and iracing ? Specifically, which has a better handling feel and also how are the online players versus pubbies on Forza ? I'm considering buying an iRacing account and a steering wheel and playing through my 55" TV.

You have to remember, the AI drives the "Forza race line" that is all it does. It's not trying to race with you.

jonathan posted:Forza people who also play iRacing, can you describe your experience going to and from Forza and iracing ? Specifically, which has a better handling feel and also how are the online players versus pubbies on Forza ? iRacing and Forza are completely different in terms of physics and playerbase. While Forza is great for loving about, adding car upgrades and hitting people with no recourse, iRacing is more about proper driving. The sim itself takes into account tire wear, amount of gas (which affects handling), spring rates, aero, and more and makes it more of a pain in the rear end if you get bumped hard. The game itself has a points system that depends on how many laps and turns you go through without incidents. Rack up too many incidents and your iRating goes down and you lose points on your license. Race like a dickhead and you'll be protested and banned from the game. This makes the community a rather tough crowd, as some have been doing it for years and will either welcome you in or go on a large rant about how you nudged them slightly into a wall and ruined their aero. It is also expensive. While you not only have to subscribe, cars and tracks cost money. The upside is that the game is constantly updating, has lots of races going, solid leagues, and is probably the closest you'll get to racing if you don't have a car. There's an iRacing thread in PGS that is more of throwing around times, suggestions, etc. All in all, if you have the time and money, do it. I had a lot of fun but honestly to be competitive, you'll need to practice constantly.

The ABCs feeders are certainly a fun and interesting way to learn how to deal with traffic, passing, and being passed. However, some of you may be wondering about proper driving ettiquette for this and other mutli-class racing. Here is some advice to apply here and through your other endeavors: 1) It's okay to brake early. Not everyone is sure about their cars, and certainly many people take a lap or two to 'warm up'. However, try not to come to a complete stop in the middle of, say, the entrance to turn 10A on Road Atlanta, especially if you're in C class. That A class Lancia Delta might not be able to correct himself once he realizes that you're not actually moving. (Possibly the only time that ABS may have saved me from ending up on my roof.) 2) If you are 2nd in your class, immediately behind 1st, do not use the runoff area of turn 4a on Infineon NASCAR as a passing zone. Especially if you do not actually have the power or speed to complete the pass before the runoff area ends. Just because you took that turn hot, doesn't mean you get the right of way. The leader does not have to yield to you, and there is plenty of tarmac on the inside. This rule applies to other tarmac runoffs as well. 3) If you are in a higher class, passing a lower class, try not to do stupid passes, especially around blacked out VW Boras/Jettas. Trying to squeeze to the inside of such a car on Road America's Carousel will result in you spinning out - even if that VW Bora was actually an MG. 3a) Have patience when passing lower class cars. Trying to ram your way through everybody because you have a S class Italia will get you kicked. Or in the very least, we'll hate you because you took the turn wide trying to get around an A-class M3 and a group of C and B class cars and took out everyone's braking markers on Sebring. 3b) Cars being passed/lapped by higher class cars need to maintain their lines. Passing cars have the responsibility of making a clean pass. That is to say, if you're in a lower class, try to follow a predictable line and don't block higher class cars from passing. If you're a higher class car trying to pass a lower class car, don't get pissy and ram someone because they didn't take the wide/high line through a corner to let you by, even though you weren't in position to pass them going into the turn. 3c) Be aware of all cars around you at all times. The guy in the S-class Ford GT does not appreciate it when you run your C-class Toyota MR-S wide on Nurburgring GP turn 1, then try to dive back to the line on turn 2, only to ram him in the side. I'm also sure that the 2nd place C-class Honda Civic that was right behind you (now beside you) wouldn't appreciate that either. 4) Treat the AI cars as though they are human players. Just because they won't yell at you or vote kick you from the lobby, doesn't mean you should 'Gran Turismo' them. That A-class Porsche on the other side of the AI driver certainly would appreciate it, and your lap times would certainly approve, if you follow this rule. Otherwise, have fun, and I'll see you in the ABCs, and maybe next time I'll be able to post some replays without my XBox crashing.

Great rules pilot. I do have a slight addendum to rule 4 though. AI cars in an online match should also be viewed with extra caution. Even the slightest amount of lag on any of the members of the lobby will cause the AI to have issues judging where human players are around them. They will turn into you as if you weren't there, or swerve randomly if they fall behind the server for a fraction of a second. ...actually, just treat them like the regular pubbies. They seem to do the same thing.

This is the best piece of advice in the thread in a while. If you teach yourself to not crash into AI and instead learn how to corner properly, you will take that behavior into online and goon races automatically.

Do a bunch of traffic courses with AI and simulation damage. That will curb some of those bad AI shunting habits pubbies tend to have. Might think twice about a dangerous pass on the 'ring at 170mph.

Don't tempt me. I might actually post this on the Forza forums. Really, though, I do enjoy the ABC'S and other multi-class races, and certainly more often than it frustrates me. I think there are honest mistakes and bad habits more than anyone trying to 'race with malice'. Also, I wanted to post video of my Delta going end over end after hitting that Audi, but crashed my XBox instead, so I went the Tim Buckley route.
