I just pulled the trigger on a 16gb Nexus 7. It will be interesting to compare/contrast with my Xoom (especially after it gets Jelly Bean) and I'm just liking the form factor too much to say no.

Also, I really like the fact that the Nexus 7 uses USB charging. One charger to rule them all!

Well, it's only a 4300 mAh battery. So, it really shouldn't take much longer than a Razr MAXX to charge, (possibly less if the USB charger bundled with it is really high amperage.) This is opposed to the 6500 mAh battery in the Xoom.

This device isn't available and as far as I know has no release date. I don't think high ppi displays are really a niche thing myself - I'm sure Android could stand to have a few more available.

Nope. Covers the whole screen. The whole screen is tinted red with red squiggly lines.

The Infinity isn't available to sell just yet but has been put through it's paces. Anand finds it's PPI is basically on par with the new MacBook (albeit on a smaller display) if just a tiny tiny bit below iPad. But obviously in the kind of territory that Apple wouldn't hesitate to use the word. Colour vibrancy is decidedly last year, but at least the density is there.

They have some super-zoom comparison shots with the Prime that make the Prime look horrible, though none with ipad.

I've got a Asus Transformer Prime (10 inch screen) and I think it's the perfect size for comics. Physically it's just smaller than an actual comic, but not enough to make the text hard to read. A 7 inch screen however would be too small, so if reading comics is high on your list, bite the bullet and get a 10 inch.

Deja Vu ...

McLarenF1 posted:

If you're reading comics, you may want to consider a 10 inch screen even though it'll mean a higher cost (maybe the old Transformer). I've got a Transformer Prime, the comic pages scale down perfectly to it's screen as seen below; however if they got to a 7 inch screen, I think a lot of text would become unreadable, and you'd be forced to scroll around each page.

Lastly, in terms of apps, I'd check out Comic Rack in the Android market. It's great and even supports wireless syncing to your PC.

OK, more impressions from playing around with the Nexus 7 for an hour or two.

I really like the way it feels in my hand. The general build quality seems good. The back has a rubbery sort of texture to help your grip. The size and weight are such that it seems pretty easy to hold in one hand. At first I thought the really thick bezel was a little goofy looking but it does allow it to accommodate numerous ways of holding the tablet without obscuring the screen.

The screen obviously does not have the pixel density of the iPad 3 or Galaxy Nexus. Comparatively it is a touch fuzzy. The screen is bright and the viewing angles are nice. Contrast and colors look good.

The OS image seems to take up about 2 GB, leaving about 6GB of usable space. With that in mind I would say if you're going to buy one for media content, it might be a good idea to throw in the extra $50 for the 16GB model.

While it's not batting in the same league as the iPad (or even trying to do so), for $200 it looks like a pretty respectable showing.

I am sure all of us, and most of the IT community knows that this 7" tablet isn't gunning for the iPad. However out in the media (especially non-IT) it is already being hyped as the iPad challenger.

I just got a 7.7 and i am pretty disappointed that androids can't multi task streaming audio/video.

I tried streaming music in the default browser, dolphin hd, firefox, maxathon and none of them let's you stream music/podcast from a webpage and leave it in the background. Audio stops when you open new tab, open browser settings or basically touch anything that brings up a new pop up or switch screens. Just like IOS.

Also why is it so difficult to print? I downloaded printershare and printbot and neither work with my canon pixma mp520 but it works with my ipad. On printershare i get "error IPP 288" message and on PRINTBOT doesn't have mp520 driver although it does see the network printer.

I want to try to love android but this is very annoying.

Yep, agreed. I have an iPad, and could't imagine reading comics on a smaller screen. If you're using Comixology, the panel view is fine on a 7", but I'm not a fan of that view, in general, and your pirated comics won't have it, anyway.

Hmm. Well, that sucks. It has to be better than reading them on my Galaxy S, though.

I can't afford to pay more than £200 for a tablet and the larger ones for that price seem to be lower quality than the Nexus.

just ordered a nexus 7. I'll probably mainly use it for comics. I know it will be just fine for comics because i can read comics on my evo 4g lte that has a 720p screen and while small, words are still perfectly legible. Seeing as how the nexus 7 is higher res than that i don't see any problems.

It may not work well if you want to completely relax have a comic in your lap but that's not i generally read them.

I'm having some issues with my TF300T, just wondering if anyone can provide any insight. I've had the thing for a little over a month (I think) and have never been able to properly get OTAs. So far I've just been downloading and installing them from Asus website. The past week I've noticed I've been getting errors in the Play store where it marked apps incapable that I know should be fine (like Firefox).

I found a thread on XDA where other people were having similar problems, but it was an old thread with no conclusion. A lot of people mentioned that they couldn't get their device to come up on Asus Device Tracker (invalid serial or something similar). I had the same issue when I tried using it. Some said a factory restore would help but it did not. Furthermore, after digging out the warranty card, I noticed the serial number on it is one number different on the end than what it says in the status menu on the tablet. What the gently caress? My wife says it's the same number I'm just a blind bastard. I'm not really sure how to proceed.

I am not rooted, have kept everything stock.
