Excuse me if this is out of line, but can someone recommend me some good indie rock? Recently I've been addicted to Wolf Parade https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqG4sj6H2vg And would like some more stuff in that vein, I also like Deer Hunter. And in terms of folk/folk punk, id recommend Defiance Ohio: Folk Punk with great lyrical content Jeffery Lewis: From calm soothing folk to harsh punky songs The Roadside Graves: Kinda darker toned folk, not really sure what to say Andrew Jackson Jihad: Great folk punk, from a loud guy whos not at all afraid to speak his mind Frank Turner: Folky music that i found really identifiable

Check out the World/Inferno Friendship Society, Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains, Franz Nicolay, The Smith Street Band, Jason Anderson, Bomb The Music Industry, The Hold Steady and The National. I just discovered Two Cow Garage. They sound like a rockier Lucero and I love them. They're gruff and literate.

Found a great new band with a great name. Wowser Bowser You can preview their Album here: http://adairparkrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/wowser-bowser To The Pleasant Life!, and Water Story are particularly good. They sound like a cross between the Smiths and an NES.

I didn't see them in this thread, but Stephie Coplan and the Pedestrians opened for WFNX's final big concert, the Seaport Six, on Thursday. They got their start locally (Boston area) and probably put on one of the best opening acts I've seen in a while. FNX has been giving them some play - specifically the song below - and I hope they get some notice elsewhere. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-Lo5FLpYGM

Pitchfork's Saturday line-up is pretty kickin.quote:Saturday Definitely want to see all of Cloud Nothings, Flying Lotus, and Godspeed. In the between, I'm thinking scout out Atlas Sound, Liturgy, Cults, Youth Lagoon, Sleigh Bells, and Hot Chip. Sucks that Grimes is opposite Godspeed, but that's not too bad. Anyone I'm really missing out on? I fully expect to catch bits and pieces of some people, but that's cool too.

I came up with an Indie band name : Unisex Handbreak The album cover would be five bi-curious looking Norwegians standing in front of a forest at sunset, and wearing various ironic masks and costumes. One of the masks would have antlers. Elphiem fucked around with this message at 05:59 on Jun 19, 2012 |

Atlas Sound was one of the better concerts I've seen but that was in a tiny theater at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and I have no idea if his show will translate to a festival. Nicolas Jaar has an interesting ambient/techno sound but if it's just him sitting at a PC pushing buttons I could see it being really dull. Danny Brown is kind of insane so I think he will be worth it if you like hip hop. What is the Godspeed live show like? I can't really get into their albums and I think Grimes is going to be a lot more fun than listening to 1.5 Godspeed songs.

I'm seeing Blind Pilot and Laura Gibson on Saturday and am super stoked! Blind Pilot's been writing for their new album but I'm hoping they'll play this song at the show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxH5dAfgBFA Laura Gibson is fantastic too. She's a singer/songwriter that makes songs with this strangely nostalgic (like a 1950's chick flick), hazy dream feel to them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VbaJ9efgkw I think someone mentioned these guys earlier, but Delta Spirit is loving AMAZING. I've been listening to them non-stop for the past 2 weeks. This one's my fav https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flvCacqMOp8 If any of you like Jeff the Brotherhood their new album Hypnotic Nights is coming out on July 17th too! Definitely worth a listen. I'd put them as psychedelic/punkish rock mixed with more modern styles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lunYo16vQhg guppiehaus fucked around with this message at 18:42 on Jul 4, 2012 |

Anybody seen Beach House live? I've got tickets for when they come to Tulsa in a few weeks and just want to know what to expect since their music is pretty relaxed. Also forgot to mention it when it happened, and I'm not even sure if they belong in this thread, but I saw St. Vincent in May and she/they put on an awesome show (okay this was already said so just go back a few pages and read that instead). Annie Clark and, for whatever reason, Carrie Brownstein, ate at the restaurant we were at and I was kinda drunk so I managed to snag a pic with them, which was cool. The delights of indie are pretty new to me, but so far I am in to: The National The Antlers Bon Iver Arcade Fire Lost in the Trees Laura Marling and then more "classic" stuff like The Pixies and The Smiths. Artists in bold are my current favourites, I can't get enough of The National at the moment. I mined last.fm's related artists, but recommendations from actual people are generally more useful. Looking for any recommendations similar to this stuff, or anything "folk indie" or "indie folk" which isn't loving Mumford and Sons. Thanks (Before someone recommends them I am indeed aware of Neutral Milk Hotel, just haven't listened yet) e: I don't know how I managed to forget this but I absolutely adore The Mountain Goats All Eternals Deck was one of my favourite albums of 2011. nomapple fucked around with this message at 00:01 on Jul 5, 2012 |

For anyone who likes The National, you really, really need to listen to Tindersticks, particulary their first 3 albums. Stuart's voice is more honeyed than Matt's, but they both go down really well. For Wolf Parade, listen to Apologies to the Queen Mary, then listen to Shut Up I Am Dreaming by Sunset Rubdown, which is one of Spencer's other bands.

nomapple posted:Any albums in particular? Thanks For Modest Mouse, my personal favorite is We Were Dead Before The Ship Sank, but most people will tell you to listen to either The Lonesome Crowded West or The Moon and Antarctica. Iron & Wine all sounds the same. You can start with any album. There are technically two albums by Local Natives: Gorilla Manor and Orion Way, though the latter was released while they were still called Cavil At Rest. If you can track down Orion Way you should listen to it, but Gorilla Manor is better.

Black Sheep Boy and its appendix is my personal favourite. Also obvious suggestions are 'Come on feel the Illinoise' by Sufjan Stevens, Andrew Bird, Boy & Bear, Fleet Foxes ( I find them boring, but you might like them), The Crane Wife by the Decemberists, Devendra Banhart, Hyde & Beast, Great Lake Swimmers, M. Ward, The Unthanks, Wye Oak and Beirut. Should be enough to last you a while.
