Not to get into it, but the core of the WTC wasn't really the main support for the building. The outside was just as, if not more, important to the building's stability. However, since the core was simply covered in gypsum wallboard instead of 3 feet of concrete like the new WTC, you still have a point. The core was the weak point in the armor.

Same picture of the 1 and 4 WTC from last week, note how large the building cores are in comparison:

Sadly this picture does not go all the way down to the feet where you can observe Saint Reagan riding over the corpses of Nicaraguan children.

Later anti-fascist, anti-Franco poster. As is commonly depicted, here Franco is supported by the military, the capitalists, and the clergy. I'm thinking to that I've seen other fascist rulers depicted with caricatures of the same segments of society; did the Italian communists use that portrayal of fascists too?

A month or so ago on This American Life:

quote:

What Happened At Dos Erres

In 1982, the Guatemalan military massacred the villagers of Dos Erres, killing more than 200 people. Thirty years later, a Guatemalan living in the US got a phone call from a woman who told him that two boys had been abducted during the massacre -- and he was one of them.

This is Oscar Ramirez Castaneda, the aforementioned Guatemalan and raised by an army officer who helped slaughter his family. He later finds out that his father was actually one of the other few survivors and reunites with him soon after the episode aired.

Tallest building in WESTERN Europe, or the tallest building in the EU, but not the tallest building in Europe.

That's the tallest building in Europe, the Mercury City Tower in Moscow. Already taller than the Shard and not yet finished.

Slightly more political:

A guy (presumably brown, not yet confirmed) used an E-Cigarette on a bus to London yesterday morning, and one of the other passengers called it in as a terror threat. Police and military, rubbing their hands with glee, shut down the whole motorway, scrambled as many exciting expensive vehicles and men with guns as they could lay their hands on, and gave the passengers a little taste of just how much fun it is to be a terror suspect.

Here's one I took in Poipet, Cambodia in 2007. Cambodia's a very poor place in relative terms, but Poipet stands out as the Mos Eisley of Cambodia. She was just on the other side of the gate from the no man's land area. Probably trafficked and carried around by a beggar (who is controlled by a pimp), but it's impossible to know for sure. I don't guess I ever posted it.

This is mostly due to the fact that police found a bus with concealed weapons in Yorkshire and they were in high alert at the time.

It really isn't that bad, but it would have fit in more at Canary Wharf or the other cluster of skyscrapers in London that I can't think the name of right now (Tower 42 and the Gherkin for example). Right now it's just kind of jutting up in an odd area for skyscrapers. Yes, I know it is right next to Guy's Hospital, but holy gently caress I even like a lot of brutalist buildings and that thing is a piece of poo poo.
