The fact is that flash on mobile is going away whether we like it or not, so if these sites that use flash want to remain relevant into the future they will need to re-evaluate their use of that technology. I'm looking at you restaurant industry.

There's also the issue with DRM, and back end infrastructure, and creation tools, and talent. HTML5 video is still in it's infancy and it doesn't appear to be growing up too quickly. People know flash, they have the tools for flash, and they've probably invested a good chunk of change in their flash infrastructure. They aren't going to easily toss it for a standard that doesn't give them everything they need yet. Ironically, the company in the best position to transition people away from flash is Adobe. If they include more and more HTML5 tools alongside their flash ones, it will help people convert.

It'll take some time, but by killing off Flash on mobile, websites are going to be forced to actually do things like use .pdf files appropriately and develop native applications, neither of which are bad things. There used to be a third party app that worked great, then they disabled it saying they'd have an android app soon. Then they released it and it only opens the browser to their mobile Site. Supposedly an employee was posting in the reviews in the Market /Play store saying an actual app would be released really soon. A year later it's still opening the browser.

I don't know if this is a weird coincidence or something could be messed up with my phone. For the past couple weeks now I check the market for app updates and I am told there are none. Six hours later I check again and it'll find 6+ app updates. Is it just a coincidence? I used to be able to check every day and find one or two apps that need updates but it seems to come in large batches now.

Just set the market to auto update by default (over WiFi if you want) & stop caring.

So this morning I discovered that the new 4.1 (edit:4.0.4 I guess?) Alarm app is stupid. You used to be able to just tap the screen anywhere to snooze, now it's only a square floating in the center, and if you miss, it goes to your home screen and you can't snooze it anymore and it keeps going off! Oh, and you also used to have to swipe to dismiss, and now that's just a simple button press just below snooze! Helpful for forcing you to wake up and not snooze the alarm and/or oversleep by accidentally dismissing the alarm Reo fucked around with this message at 15:03 on Jul 7, 2012 |

The thing about it is the gimmick, the pre-alarm, I don't know if it actually works but I did notice after a week or so of living with it that I was waking up a lot better. Sometimes with the pre-alarm, most of the time with the regular alarm, but every time it was easier to get up. I still think it sounds hokey but I went into it thinking it'd be dumb and disabled within a couple days but now I'm swearing by it and the wife (who is horrible about waking up) started using it and it's working for her too. Definitely worth the money.

Devices that do not have Flash Player already installed are increasingly likely to be incompatible with Flash Player and will no longer be able to install it from the Google Play Store after August 15 th . Starting 8/15 you will only be able to install Flash from the Play Store if your phone already had it installed and you're on 4.0 or lower. There will be no more brand new installations at all after 8/15 and no updates for 4.1 and later. In other words, mobile Flash is dead except for legacy devices and installations, and there's no telling how long that will last.

Captcha to dismiss. Works every time.
