Ugh I hate people that get too elitist about their beers. Everyone tastes things differently and prefer different flavors, so arguing about it can be like swinging dicks on the internet. No, it wasn't directed at you, at all. It was just me putting down my thoughts, since I get to deal with all three every day. I get to see what a huge turnoff it is for people who are new to beer to run into the Beer Snob in the aisle or at the bar. There are a lot of people out there who are starting to realize they have a choice, beyond commercials with talking animals and packaging marketing. If I could throw all the douchebags out of the store, I would. I'd loving blacklist them until they learn that beer is subjective and that it's social and that their attitude runs counter to what beer culture has always been. One thing that might make me slightly Beer Snob... The customers who come in to buy cases of Corona or Miller Light or whatever when we have tastings and I offer them free beer and they shoot back with some snarky bullshit about how they know the beer in my hand is crap compared to their holy Silver Bullet. Or they tell me they don't like "craft beer", that it's all awful and they've tried it all or that all craft beer is overpriced garbage. I don't like them either. I'm offering you free loving beer. Free. And you won't even try some? What the gently caress? I don't give a gently caress what you're choosing to drink, but you're basically coming into my store, which specializes in having an absurd selection, buying the same mediocre stuff you always buy, since it's the cheapest, and then you're brushing off a free beer because your chosen light lager is automatically the best? I'm still new to drinking beer to appreciate taste rather than getting drunk so I've just been buying single bottles of random stuff just to build a sort of resume of beers I like vs. don't like. This weekend I tried Sleeman's Honey Brown larger and loved it. I'm going to grab some more this week as a fridge stuffer. I also tried Newcastle Brown Ale to try and compare my preferences of larger vs ale and so far I can't lean one way or the other. I'll just keep drinking different brews and see where that takes me. The last thing I tried was a Jamaican import called Dragon Stout. The only positive thing it did for me was re-affirm my dislike for stout beers (although I really haven't tried very many). Based on this information can you fellas give me some suggestions on other beers I can try out just to expand my pallet? Preferably easily accessible to a central Canadian. I already have a small list from an earlier post that I want to try out and will report back when I do.

I bought Levitation on a whim and I don't know why I never tried it before. It's perfect for the warm but not scorchingly hot weather. I also got 2 bottles of Brux to try. Anyone have experience with it? My brother is a gigantic brettanomyces fan and I'm guessing it'd be a good beer to get him as a gift.

I had a Founders Devil Dancer tonight. That stuff is something else. It's pretty sweet to start and has a finish that I can't describe very well. It also keeps biting your tongue with bitterness. It's definitely not an easy drinker but it's worth it.

Had a going away thing at the Map Room in Chicago this weekend, hadn't been in a while. While I know that the move to Denver will be a boon in terms of beer, I can't help but be a little sad about leaving Chicago's great breweries and bars. Had Allagash Yakuza, Ommegang Hennepin, St. Bernardus Abt 12 and Unibroue Maudite. While they're all fairly different styles, I remain a huge fan of the Abt 12. The Yakuza was also quite nice, although not the best Tripel I've ever had. I appreciate the dry hopping and it came across with appropriate fruitiness, but it just didn't have that, I dunno, spark that would have gotten me really hot and bothered. I would have it again for sure, but maybe not over some other stuff.

Random single bottles is a great way to get into beer. I'd suggest not giving up on any one style too fast. I also thought I hated stouts and darker beers until I found Mayflower's Winter Oatmeal Stout, which is really sweet and chocolatey. There can be a lot of variation within a style and it's worth pressing on just to find those few gems, IMO. Variety twelve packs are also a good way to figure out what you like, or at least get a feel for a specific brewery. The downside is that if you find something you don't like, you have 1-3 other bottles of it. The upside, well, if you find something you like, you have 1-3 other bottles of it. I'm not sure what distribution is like in Canada, but Sam Adams is a reliable choice for variety packs. Long Trail usually has their flagship ale and pale ale in their packs, which are both good, accessible brews. I'd recommend Saranac and Leinenkugel too because the former brews a lot of different varieties of beer and tends to stocks their variety pack with 6 different styles, while the latter is brewed in Wisconsin(?) and might be easily available in central Canada since it's made in the north/central US. Don't really know much about Leinie's other than that. I gather it's regionally popular as a cheap, easy to find craft brewery in that area. Those two are also viewed as being on the low end of the craft beer totem pole. I haven't had much from Leinenkugel but their Sunset Wheat literally tastes like Fruit Loops beer, for better or worse. As for Saranac, gently caress the haters.

My point is that it would be ideal to get Weihenstaphen's Krystallweizen to compare, since it's the same style. I don't know the differences between the styles since I'm not familiar with a krystallweizen outside of Apollo, but it just seems fair.
