There's really no way you'd know it was there unless you already knew about it. I had Alesmith's Yulesmith and Green Flash's Pilsner there too - honestly, I think I like GF's pilsner more than any of the other beers they've had. I'm not a huge fan of Green Flash in general.

What about Rayon Vert? I also think the Alesmith X pale ale was one of the best things I drank on my trip to San Francisco earlier this year. Just a solid, hoppy pale ale. Wish I would have brought a few bottles home.

Went to the beach for a dip and hung around making music in my warm, sunny apartment, and enjoyed a Schneider Weisse earlier this evening. Pretty standard hefe - banana, clove, bready yeast, some sweetness. Poured dark for the style, almost like a dunkelweizen. Just a notch below Weihenstephaner's, in my opinion. Also enjoying Prima Pils, which is always great.

Well gently caress I've been looking for beers that use hazelnuts and gently caress if Frangelic Mountain Brown isn't a hazelnut coffee beer. There's hints of cocoa and caramel, but gently caress this is hazelnut all the way. I love this beer, I wish they did this one more than once.

I had it and it was decent, but the coffee profile was a bit bland and there was a bit too much mocha in it for me to consider it a hazelnut beer. Rogue Hazelnut Brown tastes like almost nothing but hazelnuts. I can't drink more than a few ounces of the stuff because it's such a one note beer. Likely an old bottle, I think.

Does anybody know any good breweries in the area to check out? Well, Sam Adams is the obvious one. The tour is kinda small but you get a few samples and a tasting glass at the end. Not sure how far you're willing to go from Boston, but Mayflower Brewing in Plymouth is kinda nice. The tour is short but there is a tasting room to hang out in before and after. I've heard good things about the Harpoon tour but haven't been on it.

Had a Love Child No. 2 last night at Poor Phil's in Oak Park. $25 bottle and worth every penny. Very tart on the front end and then it mellows into kind of a strawberry ftuitiness before the wood/bourbon flavor kicks in. Possibly the most complex beer I've ever had and it's loving awesome. Too bad it's gone everywhere...

CBC is very good and they serve food, too. Sam Adams is "eh". It's a decent tour and you get the obligatory samples at the end, but it's in the middle of absolutely nowhere in a residential area (though it's right off the subway at least). Harpoon's kinda the same except swap industrial for residential. I don't live there anymore so this list might be pretty dated, but some good beer bars in no particular order: Bukowski's, Sunset Bar & Grill, The Squealing Pig, Penguin Pizza. Seconding Sunset Bar & Grill, and a Yard House location just opened up near Fenway Park; they've both got a serious amount of taps and the food is pretty decent as well. If you're limited to mass-transit: Sam Adams - Orange Line to Stony Brook and a short walk. Harpoon - From South Station catch a bus/taxi or hoof it. CBC - Red Line to Kendall/MIT and a short walk. If you've got a car and feel like a semi-long drive you could check out Berkshire Brewing Co, (tours every Saturday) or Opa Opa Brewing Co (tours every Saturday).

I opened one of my 3 bottles last night. It honestly tasted and smelled like walking into a Gloria Jean's at the mall. It was good, but it doesn't even come close to holding a candle to any of the other releases in the series. It's also not really a good candidate for long term aging because the coffee flavour is the main focal point of the beer.

I thought it was really good, I hope they do more like that where the hype level is within more reasonable levels. Basically, less barrel aged beers because just those two words send everyone batshit insane.

beer dude at Whole Foods popped a bottle of the newly-arrived Rogue Voodoo Maple Whatever, so i tried it and, as expected, it was loving awful. easily one of the worst beers i've tasted, something like burnt maple-flavored plastic (think bartolimu might've said something similar). one of those things i really wanted to try because "hey, it can't be that bad," but it really is. i mean, everyone has different tastes, but it's really hard to imagine that someone at Rogue drank that poo poo and said, "drat, that needs to be bottled, because people will love it!"
