Came across an interesting band called Frost Giant. They sound like a mix of everything from ~2002: melodic death/power metal and old school metalcore with harmonized folk metal choruses instead of gang shouts. It's pretty awesome. http://www.stereokiller.com/frostgiant

Nobody in Norway was looking at a loving mass beheading for anything they've done. And the music ain't that bad either, for what it is. I'd imagine not many iraqi recording spaces would let them play. A little more bass to the guitar would go a long way

I don't believe that band is real. Janaza is using for "her" picture, a pic of a man's wife that he mocked up black metal style on an obscure blog. In one of the bands she claims to be in with other people (Seeds of Iblis), the picture of one of the musicians is lifted from the band Vulture Lord. The same character who is using an pic that is certainly not him in that band is in another band who use as their official band pic a reversed picture of Morke. I know the argument is that these people are hiding their real identity, but why "release" pictures at all then? It's more likely a cash-in attempt based on the current situation in the east and it's questionable at best whether these people are based there at all. And the music is terrible. Listen to Ayat or Al-Namrood instead.

Mayhem Fest always gives top billing to the most marketable band. I don't mind, since then I can leave without waiting in traffic. I have to say that with Slayer, Motorhead, and Anthrax, this is by far the best mainstage they've had. However, now that High on Fire pulled out, it is the worst side stage. I'd wanted the album so bad after hearing the then-current Thy Black Destiny on the radio, and wandered into a 2nd hand store hoping they had the albums there. Bam, all three sitting there, along with a Zemial album I'd been wanting for ages too. That was a cool year.

They're clearly loving it on stage at the moment as well. Obituary is the AC/DC of metal; all their songs sound the same. Their show is cool for about 10 minutes.

So here's a little preview of what's to come from Cryptopsy. I never even listened to The Unspoken King so I don't know how much of an improvement this is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pTvx9kNQEk I've never really gotten into this band beyond None So Vile, but I'm glad I came across this because it reminded me of Rage Nucléaire, Lord Worm's current black metal-ish project. They've got two songs on their MySpace (how is this place still alive), both of which are surprisingly good. http://www.myspace.com/ragenucleaire

Compared to this? Sounds to me like it won't exactly be a return to form, but definitely on the right track. Most of the -core is gone (and no breakdown like the horrible one at :14 in that song I linked). edit: actually, on second listen, I'm actually looking forward to hearing the album.
